Recently discussed was this: > While at Paris Levelfest, Morgan played a version of Running in the Family > that I'd never heard before. The remix had a burly voice belting out > something like "stop right there", and then the music starts. Can anyone > tell me which version this is? This sounds similar to the intro to "Children Say" on the album "Level 42 The Remix Collection", VSOPCD 227, Connoisseur Collection. This track bears the intro: {squeal of car tyres; male doing female voice "stop the car"; gruff male voice "Get out!"} If anybody wants more details on this disc then e-mail me privately and I'll oblige. I hace access to a scanner with OCR so it might be interesting to see what it makes of the sleeve notes. Might be as good as the voice recognition software used earlier on the digest. And no brand label printed on the front, just as I wanted for so long now! I just bought one piece, because I'm very suspicious about the quality (for audio it should suffice) The brand is BWE, and the cover mentions only a barcode, CDR 74 multispeed... that's it ... If it works, the price for the Past&Presence CDs can be slashed with another few bucks, right??? Testing it 2nite, with some of my own house vinyl I still have ready-2-b-burned on my harddisk. OK, The remix of Dance Hall Days (not a new recording, only a new mix) and Wang Chungs Greatest Hits album, although released only a few months ago, were done before any mention of Mark King I would imagine... And they had more certified hits in the US than our own Level 42... So, I hope that we hear MK singing as well... What a waste it would be to just tuck him away into the mix... I'm sure he will enhance the sound of a group many of us have already liked.... This news also verifies that Wang Chung are alive and well... Last night I went to see The Moody Blues in Virginia Beach with a full symphony... Some of you may laugh, but these guys have quite a history and still sound great..Plus, these Polygram lablemates of Level 42 had a resurgence in the 1980's with some great music.. They sounded great and played a new track from an upcoming, yet to be recorded Moody Blues album. By the way, lead singer Justin Hayward has had a great solo album out for 6 months now... Any other Moody Blues fans? Thanks for the good input. Secondly, let me apologise for the long time it takes for the page to load. Pat F let me know how I can fix this problem, and as soon as I'm done updating the cover to reflect the new track listing, I will make sure it loads quicker. A few people have commneted that I should make the cover in color, instead of black & white. I kinda' like the b&w scheme, because of the whole retro thing, but I will do a color version, and see how it turns out. Hey Emikatie, open wide I'm shoving this cover down your throat. (ha,ha,ha) While updating the cover, i wondered if anyone out there knows where tracks 8 & 9 were recorded. They are 'Her Big Day' and 'The Sun Goes Down'. The are taken from the 'My Father's Shoes' CD Single. The only info given on the CD sleeve is 'taken from the 'offical bootleg' recorded by Dave Dixon. Surely there must be a few of you who were at this show, and can prove it by recognising your voice in the crowd! :-) ======================================================================= V E G A S U P D A T E ======================================================================= I still haven't settled on a meeting time & place for Friday, June 20th in Vegas, as I'm waiting to hear when most of us will be arriving. I don't wanna' be sitting in some bar for 8 hours. (not that I haven't done this before, but that's another story) So, if you know when you will arrive, pls let me know. However, with the help of Zak, we have planned a BREAKFAST BUFFET for Saturday morning at the 'Treasure Island' hotel/casino. This will occur at 10:00 am sharp on Saturday morning, June 21st. Zak will host with his lovely wife. What this means is he will contact the hotel and make reservations for the bunch of us. (didn't think he was gonna' pay for you did you?) :-) Sounds like fun, at least for those of us who can keep down food after Friday nite, huh? I'll keep all of ya' posted on any new info, etc. Last thing, can someone who is driving bring a portable CD/Cassette player with them. I will be bringing some neat audio surpises, so we need something to listen on, so Carl doesn't have to take some club DJ hostage at bass point! That's all for now, later. Radiohead's new single Paranoid Android appears to have a sample taken from Kouyate !! I think someone playing the excert rather than an actual sample . With all this new found fame maybe the boys will get back to gether !! or more realistically is that Mark might get motivated if he sees that his music has shaped a generation's musial tastes !! Got the chance to go and see the Brand New Heavies this week. Is it worth it ??? I like thier current single "You are the Universe" and the "Sometimes" single. So come on there must be some BNH fans on the digest, should I go will I dig it ?? [I didn't see them on their current tour, but I heard from several sources that they were/are excellent in concert. -Eric] ------------------------------ Subject: CD Cover & Wally Badarou From: winston.walker @ wathneltd.com Date: Mon, 9 Jun 1997 10:14:48 -0500 I forgot to answer Emikatie's question about why i didn't include a picture of Wally Badarou on my CD cover. I only included pics of the musicians who played on the tracks on this disc. As these are LIVE tracks, and to my knowledge Wally never did any live dates, he is not inlcuded. You're right about him playing mostly low stuff. With a couple of exceptions, he plays mostly low notes on his self-titled CD and also on the Chick Corea Elektric Band CD "Paint the World". I think some of Chick's intricate notework proves to be a bit challenging for him. I saw the CCEB in 1993 and Jimmy was holding his own but when it came time for him to solo in a few songs, he was definitely struggling! I felt sorry for him but the Trace Elliotts he was using really jammed the joint when he was playing those looooooww notes. Jason writes: > Try http://www.kamanmusic.com/trace I think that might do it. It certainly did. Cheers, mate! And now, another un-Level42 related item (sort of): I have a membership to BMG classical and jazz clubs and on the latest jazz catalog, Senior Editor George Durham does an interview with Jean-Paul Maunick of 'Incognito' about their latest offering 'Beneath the Surface'. It's an interesting dialogue and I though that since there are Incognito fans out there, I can email the interview to anyone, if interested. Winston? Hats? : ) Right, then! It was up for sale, no one jumped, so they closed their doors. I imagine someone will purchase it soon, as they have alot of great products, but the trend in So Cal is probably a brand named "Eden amplification" or "SWR" but this is So Cal, I havent the foggiest what the trend is around the rest of the states. This stuff is really good too, but Trace has a very particular sound that no one else has, so... if you're after that sound, you probably want to stay with Trace, although dollar for dollar they are more expensive. After market shouldn't be bad though. P.S. Kinda interesting that Trace folded after the breakup up the 42's. I just joined the digest for the first time about four days ago. Doesn't make much sense to me to "lurk" too long, considering I can't resist saying SOMETHING. My name's Ann. I live in Iowa, at least for the moment. I'm a graphic designer (more or less - it's what the diploma says). L42 has been the background music to my life since 1985 with SAY, and of course it only got better from then on. I was quite alone as a fan (or so I thought) out here in the Middle West for many years, and the lack of communication and information about the band made me miss out on a great many things (like all the concerts). Finding albums and cd's was virtually impossible. When I went to college out East, I finally found the older stuff I'd never heard, and it cemented my appreciation for this most excellent music. Since then I've been finding songs I haven't heard, B-sides, imports, all one by one, and it's been keeping me going through rough parts of my life and great parts of my life. I did not know that Level 42 had disbanded until I read it on the official web page (which is well done), and it made me sad to think it had passed me by without my knowing. But having found you all has made me realize that the music's still there, and will be, for all the rest of the rough parts and great parts of my life to come. Now then, after all that mush: my comment: RE: Videos: I always wanted to do "I Want Eyes". It's this living in the Midwest... we have great wide fields for "in a field there's a man", and the contrast of bright yellow hay and bright deep blue summer sky in a seriously distant and wide-angle shot would have been pretty cool, I do think. And "The Ape" really begged for something with claymation, using red and blue clay. I do think.
