I just checked out Winstons site with the proposed P&P cover and feel it's another example of decisions being made and then rammed down our throats!!! Just kidding. Wiinston has created a well-crafted montage of cool Level 42 words and graphics. I especially like the retro-design similar to the old LP covers that Winston mentions. Just curious though, was Wally B not a part of any of the material from the CD? If not, that would explain his photo absence. I never got to see the entire "inner" pictures as it took over 5 minutes to load what I could see!!! The only thing I might suggest is that the cover and other panals be in color? Or an option of color? Winston did a fine job with AYGB (is this correct?) and his latest effort proves that within the digest, I am in the company of geniuses. I was wondering if Winston sought out the help of our very own Mark Huges who did such a fantastic job with the illustrations on SATS? The machine stops. Oh, I really hope that's true! That would be fucking AWESOME!!! I know there are a few of us (me and Pat anyway) on the digest who really appreciate Wang Chung. "Dance Hall Days" was a pretty good song, but probably not indicative of their musical ability. If you're interested, check out "The Warmer Side of Cool", a fantastic album which was horribly underpromoted. After meeting with some other Levelheads at the LowLandsLevelFeest in Amsterdam on May 24th (hello to Andre, Mighty Mammoondog, Alexander and Lolita) I found out that there was still a lot for me to collect regarding Level 42 material. Today (saturday) I decided to do something about it. I looked up all the cd-stores etc. in my neighbourhood and went for it! The first to be visited was a store that bought and sold used material. I found copies of Worldmachine (US version), Standing in the light and On the Level (compilation). As I did not have the latter one, I bought it, for 10 guilders (USD 5.26). The next 2 stores had nothing special for me, but then I went by a marketplace where there was a jumble sale (I had to look this word up in the dictionary) [where people sell their old junk for very low prices] and I found copies on vinyl of "Running in the Family" and "Level 42". I bought them (total price: 4.5 guilders (USD 2.37). Then I went to the last store of my quest for Level material. I picked up two pieces of vinyl stuff: * The Chant Has Begun (12") Polydor 881 434-1; TCHB Power Mix, Almost There, The sun goes down (upfront mix ill bred but with jam), and * Running In The Family (12" Polydor 885 518-1); RITF Extended version, Dream Crazy, RITF 7" version. The price I paid for these two copies were in total 10 guilders (USD 5.26). So I'm happy to say that my quest went well. I must admit that my turntable is not that perfect anymore, so I hardly dare to play them, especially the copy of The Chant Has Begun. When I unwrapped it at home I was surprised because I suspect that this copy had never been played! Some small and thin vinyl threads were still on the edge of the album, so it probably is a virgin copy. Mammoondog/Andre: I believe both of you have got a good quality turntable? Perhaps I should try the copies once on your machines. I think the copy of RITF is also pretty new. Andre: are the pictures of LLLF A'dam ready yet? Friday night when I came home from work, I switched on the radio on a national station (Radio 3 FM) and I was just able to overhear the DJ mention something about a prize contest where you had to phone in and mention the name of the lead singer of Level 42!!!! Well, naturally I picked up the phone and kept trying to get through, and you know what? I was the winner! The DJ called me back after about 15 minutes and then I had to answer the question on the air. My hopes were high regarding the prizes, I could see some nice albums that I didn't have yet, smiling at me. Unfortunately the prizes had no relation whatsoever with Level 42. I won some cd's as well as the video The Rock (with Sean Connery). However, I was happy about the fact that this radiostation asked something about Level 42 in t he first place. The guys have not been forgotten.......... In conclusion: my weekend has begun pretty well. I hope yours too. It has been a while. Jonathon, thanks for the interesting news. It will be interesting if they actually are able to release something. Especially since I was a Wang Chung fan back in the 80's. Anybody else get their Greatest Hits CD? It is pretty good. Since this will be a huge topic over the next few days, I just wanted to suggest many of you find a particular CD. Nick Feldman of Wang Chung, who did most of the instruments and also backing vocals as well as the occasional lead vocal (Let's Go...I think), teamed up with Jon Moss from the Culture Club and formed a group called Promised Land. It is a self-titled CD and I believe it is out of print. It is an Epic/Sony release from 1992. The CD was produced by Tony Swain, who produced alot of earlier Bananarama stuff. I was lucky enough to find it in a used bin for $5. Anyway, it is a good CD if you were a fan of either group. And is anyone else a fan of Aswad? I know we talk about links to other bands but I never hear anyone mention Aswad. Drummie (Drummie Zeb) played drums on Clocks Go Forward on Mark King's CD. Anyway, I picked up an import of their's a few months ago called "Firesticks". It is a collection of alternative mixes. Nice stuff. Anyway, I hope we can squeeze more info out of Crockford on this whole Wang Chung issue. Gotta run. GO JAZZ! I love old sixties album covers, and your mock-up is rite on the money! My only suggestion would be to add some color to the front - bright primary colors. The words 'Mr. Pink' should, of course, be shocking pink! I stand corrected -- thanks Brad. Pat Flanagan also mentioned in email a VH-1 show called "Pop Up Video" which mentioned the same thing. I should pay closer attention next time -- I guess I'm still used to the days of cheesy video compositing ... However, I still think the production/choreography in "Wannabe" is an impressive feat, even at ~1.5 minutes a pop. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vince Mora synth @ swcp.com USA: 505 332 0139 www.swcp.com/synth ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can run, but you'll just die tired. -- Quake champion Kornelia Takacs ------------------------------ Subject: "AYGB", et al From: Buttboy223 @ aol.com Date: Sun, 8 Jun 1997 00:05:03 -0400 (EDT) Hi all you L42 fans! Seeing as how this is my first entry, I hope that you all give me some leeway. I'm always on the lookout for L42 CD's, especially the remixes, limited releases, etc. I have quite a collection already (thanks to several trips to the U.K.), but am looking for the "As Years Go By" disc. If anyone could direct me, I'd appreciate it! Thanks. Don Buttboy223 @ aol.com
