Ah yes, this is not a problem! I will be making sure that the track start marks occur right at the beginning of the track, so you can program your CD player to play the tracks in any order you choose. In your case, by programming the tracks in the release order, it will afford you the gaps you'd like in between songs as your laser searches for the next track. Also, for the record, I am not adding any canned crowd noises. The crowd from the following track prelaps or is mixed with the tail of the last song to seem like the crowd is reacting to the song you just heard. At no point during the songs do I add any noise of any sort. It's exactly as it appears on the B-side or CD5. I would also suggest that any live album that isn't one night's performance straight through is built the same way. Physical Presence was built out of at least 4 night's worth of shows. I just feel we should do something different with this disc. Disc two will be just like Jay wants it, the tracks, by themselves, in the order released. AYGB had the same M.O. But, I am not the only person on the digest, and as such, I will be playing this first disc for a couple of list folks here in LA before I send it off for burning. So far all the emails I've gotten have been of the positive variety, but if you plan on ordering the disc, and you don't like the idea, let me know. It's your disc too!! Seems folks' tastes match on most of the clips. It's interesting about the reaction to "Lessons In Love." I thought it had a good general theme -- "all the dreams that we were building," with the construction workers and the wheelbarrow. "LIL" is still a great song, though. I like the album version better than the 12-incher that's on the Polydor "Remixes" album, with all that echo and the flat synth bassline. The G-B-D-G bass pattern on the album cut (and Mike's trademark funk keyboard sound) still does it for me, ten years later. Short cuts: 1) Yes, there's too much of the woman's ear on "To Be With You Again." 2) Would also like to know who does the background vox on some of the "Forever Now" cuts, though I'd bet a dollar to a doughnut it was Mike doing the French dissertation on "Play Me." 3) Any NYC Levelheads going to see Swing Out Sister this month? I wonder if John Thirkell will be with them. As a former trumpeter, I can tell he's got some of the best chops in British pop. I think that's him in the horn solo on SOS's "Surrender" (from "It's Better To Travel" -- get the extended remix on the CD version). I know he does the great solo on "Understand" from "Get In Touch With Yourself." "Answers on a postcard, please, I'd like to know what you believe." TCOY. It's very well done, if you ask me. I hate to disagree with you, Pat, since I know you have ties to the mob and a collection of large guns, but I'm pretty sure this video was one long tracking shot ... I don't recall any walls or pillars passing in front of the camera from which to matte in an edit. Besides, the camera is a hand-held Steadicam, which makes matte edits really obvious (the before & after footage floating differently and/or at different speeds). If you remember Janet Jackson's "When I Think Of You" video, you'll know what I mean. ObSpiceGirls: it's funny how people slam the girls for poor lip-synching in this video, when they don't realize how hellish a long-tracking-shot is to shoot! Considering that you've got directors and assistants shouting cues, extras being positioned, and the girls trying to hit all their marks *and* jump into dance choreography -- 100% perfect lip-synching is the least of their worries! As Jenn-san said, the producer for "Take A Look" really had no reason to bitch about his puny 10-second shot when "Wannabe" did *four minutes* worth. ObLevel42: IMHO, the best video by far is "Something About You". Thoughtful, melancholy, rife with theme and symbolism ... a perfect complement to the song. Well, after three weeks of wishing that I'd started taking foriegn languages earlier, I'm back! In case it hadn't been mentioned, Morgan Rousell and I got together with one of his L42 friends (hey Tony), for "Levelfest Paris, the World's Smallest Levelfest!" (tm). Including my friend Peter who arrived several hours late, there were four of us (quite a change from the Texas Level Roundup!). Anyone that want's to hear about the trip can feel free to write, and I'll respond personally. I do have three pieces of bad news, though, so here goes. . . 1) due to some changes at my work, I'll be unable to make the International Levelfest. My boss is leaving town that weekend, and I've been scheduled to teach a class on Saturday. :( 2) at some point during my absence, someone played with my computer, and managed to do a world of hurt to the system. As a result, I had to rebuild the system files again, and have inadvertantly lost my mail from May 11 to May 28. If you wrote me something important during that time, please re-send it (John and Blake, I believe I remember seeing change of address mail from the two of you). This point leads me to the final one. . . 3) the CD writer will be down for another couple of days, probably, until I have a chance to get it all installed, and checked out. For those of you who are awaiting AYGB, watch this space for more info. 'K! I've gotta run now, but I'll be getting to answering the mail that I do have very soon. Later! Anyway, for those who don't know, Wayman is a forward for the Phoenix Suns basketball team and a great bass player. He's out promoting his new album and will be performing out here in New Jersey Thursday . Turns out Wayman is a huge Mark King fan and we were talking a little Level 42 during the interview (off the record, of course). I'll probably be lending him some tapes, since he doesn't have a lot of the rarer material. Should be interesting to hear his feedback. If anyone in the NY/NJ area wants to see him, Wayman will be playing at Club Bene in South Amboy at 9 p.m. I think tickets are $12.50 and $15.00. They played a total of 15 songs, including most of the singles from their three CD's (and two covers). This was the last show on their US tour, so there was plenty of goofing around (those who've seen them live will understand specifically what I mean by "goofing" =) No sign of either of our Hen Pecked friends on horns, but the usual crew was present, with strongs contributions by Wallis Buchanan on didjeridoo, Stuart Zender on bass, Derrick McKenzie on drums, etc, etc. Of course great vocals by Mr. Jason Kay, and plenty of breakdancing to boot. I'm still listening to them now... thanks to Ernst-Jan for a wonderful 2CD European bootleg called "Funky Paradise"! During the early eighties there was a band called 'Leisure Process', formed by Gary Barnacle and Ross Middleton. They released at least 4 singles on 12". One of them is entitled 'A Way You'll Never Be' (released in 1982 - EPIC) with: Mark King: bass and drums Phil Gould: drums I couldn't believe my ears when I heard it! It just sounds like a Level 42 - song (except for the vocals). And what an incredible bass-groove! Now I wonder if Leisure Process ever made an album with this song or perhaps with more songs with Mark and Phil playing on it. Gert
