From: bmiller @ abbeywood.com (Bill Miller) Date: Fri, 30 May 1997 11:16:21 +0100 (BST) Levelheads Have fallen in love with a Level42 song I have only heard for the first time yesterday. I have just had the chance to listen completely through the RESURGENCE release of 'Forever Now' and have taken straight to song 10 - 'Learn to Say No' God I love it!!! The versions that I have listened to are the K-KLASS and CLUB mixes of this song on a CD single I have and they don't sound anywhere near as good as the album version. Now I am not a musician although I am learning from all the bassists on the digest so I can't comment musically but this tune is addictive and I can't stop tapping my feet to it and whistling away to it around the office. Any other readers had any other similar experiences!!!! Bill Miller BILLY'S GONE ------------------------------ Subject: Mega-anal alert! Dude, can we all just get along? The guy was just trying to participate in the discussion. If reading this post was the toughest part of your day yesterday, things are pretty good in Elson-world. -- -Will "This sesame seed is bigger than my head" ------------------------------ Subject: bridge vocals From: BRENT.HATHAWAY @ EY.COM Date: Fri, 30 May 1997 09:39:52 -0400 Ok, folks, now that I've moved and have assumed a new e-mail address (Previously brent @ e-mail.com), I can now resume with my learnings, and maybe field drumming related questions. :) Question - and please don't guess the answer - but if you do know, please let me know. I would like to know who is singing each bridge on the Forever Now release. I know both Phil Gould and Wally Badarou are credited with backgound vocals on the release, I'd like to know by song, who does what vocally. (Like for example, the French part in Play me, the "In another world..." etc in Past Lives) and so on. I don't have Wally's solo to compare to. Also, does anyone know what Style Council releases contain Phil's co-written stuff? Thanks 1,000,000! --brent ------------------------------ Subject: videos, album artwork From: Pat Flanagan Date: Thu, 29 May 1997 15:37:47 -0400 >By the way -- as the debate rages over best/worst L42 album cover, I'd >like to start a rhubarb on best video during the 80s era. > > MOST EFFECTIVE: "Lessons In Love," "Leaving Me Now" (tie) > LEAST EFFECTIVE:"Heaven In My Hands" > WEIRDEST: "Take Care Of Yourself" (Mark with spiked hair?! > Mike with almost no hair?! Yeah-yeah!) For the most part, I'll go along with these. Though SAY (acronym alert) has always been my favorite of theirs, the more I think about the LMN video, the more I like it. LIL's video was kinda drecky, though. The sad thing about the HIMH video is that it's a pretty exciting video artistic-wise, compared to most of the others out there. The Take A Look and Tracie videos are also extremely well-done, if you ask me. And I have a soft spot for TCOY's video, simply because of the groovy stumbling around drugged-out "peace" dude. > P.S. -- Who was the girl in "To Be With You Again?" Okay, I'll stop posting > for the night... Yes, I have that album, and the artwork is very well done. In fact, I think that's another thing the 80's were special about. More attention was paid to packaging, driven, in part, by the many British design firms who got into album artwork. Of course, many of the 80's detractors will say, yes, that's because packaging had to be important, the music wasn't music, it was product, but I don't go along with that. As a designer, I can really appreciate a lot of the cool design work done in the 80's. A favorite of mine is still the Frankie Goes To Hollywood "Welcome To The Pleasuredome" double album, and the accompanying single and remix covers. All extremely pretentious, but well done. It won't be a Levelfest, but everyone is welcome to go. If I can't get a band together (to cover HIMH), I'll definitely play some L42 music on CD. I can confirm that Gary Husband will be touring with Gary Moore, including the Montreux Jazz fest in Switzerland. There are some tour dates on the web, otherwise I have some at home (at BHCONRAD @ AOL.Com). Any more potential submissions for the original tunes compilation by digest members? - Lolita?, the Rockapella guy?
