BHarfield ------------------------------ Subject: Standing Corrected From: bmiller @ abbeywood.com (Bill Miller) Date: Thu, 22 May 1997 11:58:21 +0100 (BST) Levelheads My sincere apologies, hope I didn't offend anybody on the Judas' silver issue, I am standing here with my hands up in total repentance. I am sorry I was wrong. Also I have sent an EMAIL to Thomas apologising for being so rude to him. Message to Dave Brown - Dave glad you like the CD, and I loved your interpretation and explanation of Judas' silver, excellent!! Also to all those who emailed me to request FREE CD's of Level 42, I can get them and have sent them from the UK to other Levelheads (to Dave Brown & Randall Collins) But to let everybody know that I will only send them IF I can get them cheap enough. The actual CD's are all second hand but in very good condition. So to all those who emailed me I will do my best. Oh yes and on a Friday night I do have better things to do with my time. And I do have an active sex life!! (re Thomas' comments) Just ask any sheep around Wimbledon they will confirm I am a hot sex pot!!!!HA HA Bill Miller BILLY'S GONE ------------------------------ Subject: Crockford/Gary, etc. From: Winman42 @ aol.com Date: Thu, 22 May 1997 09:03:23 -0400 (EDT) Thanks very much to Bill Miller for giving a shout to Crockford, and finding out that info. Can't wait for that 'new' live CD. Big thanks to those two lucky souls who spoke with Gary Husband as well. I'll keep my eyes open for that CD, as i already have a Morrisey Mullen CD from the early eighties. Dave Mock, welcome back. Stop on by your local NYC HMV or Virgin records in Times Square. HMV carries all the level 42 imports for about $15.00 . Virgin carries them as well, in addition to various remix compilations in their IMPORT section. I always amazes me when I got to Virgin, that all the level 42 stuff in the IMPORT section is being snatched up. I walk thru Times Square on my way home from work everyday, so I stop in at least once a week. I ALWAYS check the level 42 bin, and the bin is always full with level 42 stuff. Come back in 3-4 days, and it's all gone!! Guess I'm not alone in this city. Oh yeah, I think Wally produce 'Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind', not Paul O'Duffy from Swing Out Sister. Speak of Swing out, they will be here in NYC on June 29th. Can't go because I have a previous engagement in Vegas! Trillian - Yup, you are correct. That's the stuff I was gonna' send ya. Hey, while everyone is in the mood to explain lyrics. Help me with this one. What's the deal with 'I Wanna Sleep On My Heart'. Love the song but could never figure out what the heck it all means. I've probably asked about this before, but give me a hand if you can. Hey!! What's wrong with an afro and a dashiki? I admit a had both in the 70's, and I thought I looked good. Guess I was wrong, huh? Please stop laughing at me... Sony MDS-JE500 PRO (no SCMS system installed!!) $600, or $900 with pitch control ... yahoo! Dirk ps: what means Svengali ? (because I saw a CD of a DJ (Sven Van Hees, on Global Cuts/R&S records) called this way) ------------------------------ Subject: Worst L42 cover From: "Steve Allert" Organization: MCI Date: Thu, 22 May 1997 09:19:08 -0500 Worst Album Cover? Without a doubt I would have to vote for 'Guarenteed'. That crappy, out of focus picture of some very bitter looking band members (the TOURING members!) in a boat (why?!?) seems like such an after thought. Someone not already familiar with the group might think these guys were a gay, 80's metal band ala Queen ("not that there's anything wrong with that!"...."No, not at all!"). Just wondering,...does anyone else think that the guitars were overdone on SATS and Guarenteed? These are my least two favorite L42 discs and I think it's because they brought forward the guitar parts more, using more fast-fingered solos. Definite move towards True Pop. I'm not trying to provoke a Boon vs Alan M/Jakko debate. Just saying I think that when Boon moved away from an active role in the group, their sound changed noticibly. Duellin' basses WOULD be something to see. The pair of you could dress up in dungarees, have cosmetic surgery (enormous ears, buck teeth, boss-eyes) and take eachother on, man to man, in the Everglades playing a number of Mark King bass licks at increasing speed. The winner gets to sit on Ned Beatty's back whilst he makes pig-squeal noises. A little background here; Judas Iscariot, the well-known betrayer, has nothing to do with the origins of the term 'Judaism' -- that is based on the name of another person, Juddah Macabee, (who lived hundreds of years before Judas Iscariot) who I think led the Jewish people's resistance movement against the Greek invasion of their homeland. I think part of modern Anti-Semitism is based on this misunderstanding. From: BHarfield @ aol.com Date: Thu, 22 May 1997 17:00:25 -0400 (EDT) So there I was, sat in Southampton Public Library feeling pretty pleased with myself about managing to catch Gary Husband's only gig in the area for many years AND managing to get an interview (thanks everyone for your favourable comments - it almost seems to have given the Digest a kickstart again) when I happen to notice a leaflet advertising a small jazz festival in a tiny theatre in Southampton University. I couldn't believe my eyes when I discovered that The Julian Joseph Trio was on the bill. I'm a big fan of Julian, a fantastic young British jazz pianist, and I would never have expected to see him play outside London (many jazz performers rarely seem to step outside London in the UK). It was bad enough to open up the leaflet and discover that I had missed the gig, it happened on May 1st. But imagine my shear terror when I looked at the line up of the band. Yep, you guessed it, Gary Husband AGAIN on drums. So it turns out that Gary Husband played TWO small gigs in obscure venues in Southampton in the same month - I'm just glad that I got to see one of them! BTW, for anyone who wants a summary of this rather sad tail, Gary is now also playing in the Julian Joseph Trio - as well as the Jim Mullen Quartet AND The Gary Moore band. Its a shame that MK or ML aren't quite as motivated as this at the moment! Bruce.
