From: bmiller @ abbeywood.com (Bill Miller) Date: Thu, 15 May 1997 11:46:49 +0100 (BST) Levelheads I haven't written anything for a few days so here goes with the blurb! Somebody asked for Paul Crockford's number well.... Paul Crockford Management is on Central London 0171 354 3414 - John Ward is a good contact there he sent me a promo L42 double vinyl record at my request. He is a good bloke!!! I think he is still working there. Secondly I am coming to California (Santa Monica to be precise) for a 2 week holiday from the 26th July if anybody knows a good cheap car hire place close by or has a contact in the industry please let me know!!! And if anybody fancies meeting up to say hello!!!! Thanks in advance! And thirdly (is this a scoop??) I have a 12" picture interview disk with Mark King on the front that I picked up 5 years ago form a jumble sale and wonder if anybody can tell me about it (sounds a stupid question I know but it is badly scratched and I have only dared leaving the needle on the record for about 5 seconds!!). Thirdly a message to Dave Brown - your FREE True Colours CD went by Swiftair Recorded Delivery on Tuesday this week. Anybody else want any CD's Fourthly has anybody noticed how close a resemblance the lead singer of 80's/90's group Hue and Cry's voice is to Mark King's. COMMENTS Bye for now! Green" Date: Wed, 14 May 1997 20:46:02 -0500 Yes indeed! Morgan has been nice enough to send me those four new midis, and they are on my site now. So...THANKS MORGAN!! For those of you who have visited the site, I appreciate the comments. Unfortunately, however, after having place the LIAPW-OSM on the site -- only 1 member has commented on it. Gee, all that effort ... ;) Anyhow, for those of you who do stop by, please leave me a note to let me know that you are from the digest. And by all means, let me know what you think about the MIDIs in general!! :) Best wishes, and regards! ~Sean *********** "The MIDI Extreme" *********** * http://www.flash.net/~questps/midi.htm * *** For the best MIDI files on the net!*** ****************************************** ------------------------------ Subject: Speaker revelations From: Pat Flanagan Date: Wed, 14 May 1997 19:25:16 -0400 WOW. All this talk about jerking with your speaker hookups got to me, so I hooked the neg speaker wires together and put in my Resurgence Forever Now. All I have to say is, WOW, do the wiring trick and listen to Model Friend. WOW! You'll hear two SCREAMIN' FUNKY guitar parts that are virtually buried in the mix (a 70's style wah-wah thing during the verse, and the hard fuzz guitar during the chorus)! You'll also hear some interesting buried backing vocals in Billy's Gone, and Don't Bother Me turns into all percussion and backing vocals, with a very tasty piano in the chorus! This is going to revolutionize the way I listen to music! THANK YOU to everyone who provided info on this trick, especially the caveat about watching the relation of power between the amp and the speakers before attempting it. I'm leaving a week from today for my trip, and I want to meet some of you on the Isle of Wight. There are three people who have already said they will do it, but there has to be some more of you! If anyone has a last minute change of heart, my number in London will be 171-730-7380, and it is my friend's house so messages can be left for me anytime. I will actually be in London from June 3rd on, so I will call you back then. The excursion will take place Saturday afternoon June 7th. All you Brits who can make it, please come - it will be loads of fun. (I'll leave it at that). :0 I would still like to get my hands on any rare DJ mix or home mix of Level42 songs. Anything floating around out there? I was looking at the back of my WM CD at the picture of our boys in their fashionable garb and thought to myself that this would make a great poster. I think this is my favorite group picture of them. Does anyone know how to go about enlarging a picture like this or knows of someone that can do that kind of work? I would be curious to know what everyone else's favorite group picture is. Right, then! Randall "Would you care for a rat?" ------------------------------ Subject: New 'Presence'? Foundation And Empire 8. Chant Has Begun 9. Chinese Way 10. Sun Goes Down (Living It Up) 11. Hot Water 12. From: "Graham Bell" Date: Thu, 15 May 97 16:37:12 UT Hi all, I've been reading the digest for about 8 months now and this is the first time I've managed to actually contribute. I've been a 42 fan for about, well ages! I'll have to agree with the coment about Hot Water sounding like a train. The general beat does! I mean, the man himself even says it.."Here it comes again, chugging like a train". If it's good enough for Mark it's good enough for me, it must therefore, be the law! Whilst I'm typing, I'll add my praise to Sean's midi extreme site, it's a cool collection for 42 fans. It's fun to steal the Level 42 tunes and improve them :-) Oh, and if there's any McCartney fans out there...Flaming Pie is flaming excellent go get it! I usually listen to music with my ears and sometimes eyes when simultaneously viewing a music video. I don't need a freakin chalkboard to enjoy the music. (Oh me, of little mind.) By the way, I have a favorite uncle whom I've played euchre with and we have this joke that after every hand the "proper" way to have played gets discussed by him. No way have we ever played the proper cards in the proper order, even if we win the round. We used to joke that we needed a chalkboard to illustrate every play. Even now, when one of us has to explain something, the other jokes, "let me get the chalkboard." (You have to be there to get the full effect). Enough with the ongoing jousting already!!!! On another note, I just saw a Tears For Fears video and it says that the band management is: Paul King, Paul Crockford and Paul Darwin. I don't recall ever seeing this info in the digest. I mean, isn't Paul King, Mark Kings, brother? And we all know who Paul Crockford is. Let's do a tree. Let me get the chalkboard. Dirkies, come in please!!!! The machine stops. John ------------------------------ Subject: Man made heaven... From: Benedict Poole Date: Wed, 14 May 1997 22:01:20 +0000 Hi all--I won't harp on this one, as I know some don't appreciate religious discussion! However, could it be that in the lines 'Man made heaven and man made hell...' L42 are examining heaven & hell as human constructs, e.g. our notions of heaven and hell are ideas we need to be able to define the philosophy of a particular religion? It doesn't mean they don't exist, simply that they are ways of making it easier for humanity to understand God/Allah/Buddha, whoever. But maybe I'm talking out of my arse. Ta ra!
