The second one is awsome with the extra > tracks, but I have one complaint that many of you have also shared in the > past... The Resurgence version deletes ALL OVER YOU which is a terrific > tune and a chart climber the UK in 1994... If you only get one copy, > get the Resurgence, and then search for the ALL OVER YOU singles... Or the Japanese RCA release, if you can find one - it does contain AOY and "Pat's Lives" as well ;-) Hmm...this is FN thing is confusing a bit. Just to clear it up here are the RCA-Japan and Resurgence-US track lists: RCA-Japan Resurgence-US 1. FN BG(new version) 2. MF TB 3. TOW PM 4. AOY TSS 5. LIAPW PL 6. R DBM 7. BG HOTL(SKELETAL) 8. Also, I'll be dropping your "sisa" disc in the mail tomorrow (monday)! "I think about it all night long..." (Bloody Labour party!) > The return of pure socialism. Oh lordy, don't start all that £%$!^$@ up again ;-) !! We're just getting over the election! If you think New Labour has anything to do with socialism, you are extremely dim B-> A note for the non-UK element of this digest: Margaret (who the hell ever called her Margie???) Thatcher is *MAD* now. She's a sad old lady; please inwardly digest & stop banging on about her! She'll be in the twilight home for the terminally bewildered, along with Reagan, very soon! Read her two volumes of autobiography if you don't agree she's round the hatshop... Everyone has to move on. Like it or not, Labour are here, and we'll have to see what happens. If anyone prays for the failure of a particular party governing whatever country, they are cretionous and selfish. If a particular gang of politicians does badly, a whole nation does badly. Not good news for anyone. Anyway, end of rant and back to L42... I wrote to BP a while back, saying they didn't cover enough bassists -- too much focus on the industry 'greats' (i.e Nathan East, Will Lee & co.), without focussing on new blood. There was a Pino Palladino/Mark King issue, which was good, but they've still managed to ignore a lot of great players (e.g. Nick Beggs) who have been quietly doing it... Still, great Tony Levin edition! My four penneth. Oh yes! My understanding of the recording of SITL is that the style of production was intentional--trying something new. I quite like it myself! In fact, me and MicroShuf must feel like pioneers on this on-line, Leveldom thing...Back in the days of Prodigy black screens, me and John must have collected like 25 people in keeping a Level 42 bulletin board going daily. Fun stuff! Couple of other odds and ends...regarding the Bass Player Magazine list. Can't say I was too surprised that no Level 42 albums made it. I would say that if any of em had a shot, it would have to be A Physical Presence. This all reminds me of an online conversation I had with JD Considine (no relation) from Rolling Stone and Musician magazine a little while back. In this musical Book of Lists awhile back, he was asked to list 25 best bass solos. He didn't mention Mark King, though he totally knows who he is. I asked him about it and he said he based the bass list on whether those solos inspired other players later on. Which brings us to the point - what known bass players today have listed Mark King as an influence? The only recent one I recall is Me'Shell N'degcello (i have no idea how to spell that). Just food for thought, BobC ------------------------------ Subject: Level 42 Articles From: BobC971 @ aol.com Date: Sun, 4 May 1997 19:39:07 -0400 (EDT) Hi again, I also forgot to mention that my plan to call up a ton of old Level 42 articles from all around the world and get them on our fine Level 42 web sites is into action. Last week, both Winston and Morgan volunteered to post these up on their sites. I am sending both of them eight different articles, so they should get posted soon. (A warning: not all of them are 100 percent positive). They span from 1986-92. In my searches, I also came across this....something you guys be interested to see from the Dec. 14 '91 Billboard magazine...A review of the Guaranteed single... -- Billboard, December 14, 1991 PUBLISHERS: Level 42/Mark King & Mike Lindup/ Chappell & Co., ASCAP/Island Visual Arts, PRS RCA 62178 (c/o BMG) (cassette single) British popsters make their label debut with an unusually aggressive, rock-framed ditty. Mark King's instantly recognizable voice is like an old friend, and it's a nice contrast to track's kinetic beat. A smart bet for widespread approval from pop, alternative, and album rock programmers. -- ...I wish more programmers thought it was smart. TCOY, BobC
