Four or so years ago in Spain I did Running in the Family. I can't remember which other ones I have seen though. I tend to avoid doing things like this like the plague!!!! I did Right Said Fred's "Deeply dippy" once. It went down a storm....but thats getting off topic. The most impressive thing was I was largely sober on both occasions. World Machine tape with a bonus side of remixes...as raised by Bill Miller. How may I be of assistance???? Right - that's all for today...except, do you think I should go for a change of .sig?? It's been the same for years now. Any suggestions? TCOY, Mark. If so, then Nigel's 'Mark King for President' ( Digest V97 105 ) could be closer to the truth than we imagine. What better way to celebrate their forthcoming independence, should it happen, than to formally honour their greatest citizen? ( Boon and Phil excepted of course ). However, if I recall, from a conversation we had with two fans there last year at the prototype LevelFest ( Joe Daflo's ) no-one on the IOW seems very proud of the band. Anyway, lets give it our best shot. How about one of the Portsmouth-IOW Ferries named after him? Or would Hot Water be very appropriate on the South Coast in November? Tattoo Man ------------------------------ Subject: Pursuit of Accidents From: lolita @ interserv.com Date: Wed, 16 Apr 1997 06:45:42 -0700 Hey All: Yesterday someone said that we don't mention POA on the Digest that much. I think that it has great individual songs - Pursuit of Accidents has my favorite Mike Lindup solo, and is one of my favorite instrumentals - but is all over the place as a cohesive album. It is not as completely disconnected as Guaranteed (which I consider a collection of random, albeit _somewhat_ good, songs), but it is close. New thread to ponder: which CD do you consider to be the tightest? Not necessarily the one that contains your favorite songs, but the one in which the track order makes the most sense, and the flow of the CD is great. My two votes are for World Machine and Level 42. What are yours? Lolita ------------------------------ Subject: L42 CD's / Mark King in a Movie? If you don't mind ordering online, take a look at http://www.cdnow.com and http://gemm.com -- both are excellent sources and have extensive catalogs of Level 42 merchandise. Also Esprit in England (which has an outlet here in Seattle) is another good place to look. Their catalog is at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/esprit/ On another note... I friend of mine said that he caught the trail end of a movie that listed Mark King in the credits. It was a movie with Ringo Star and had something to do with Monkeys (and he said it wasn't very good). I went CD shopping yesterday and hit the jackpot; I got the L42 Live at Wembley CD, Jamiroquai's Travelling Without Moving (Thanks Lolita and Eric and everybody else that mentioned it), Tears For Fears' Raoul and the Kings of Spain, and also Saturnine Martial & Lunatic. I can't figure that last one out...it's really strange, like Roland Orzabal decided to rehash a bunch of old TfF songs in new styles. Same melody lines but different beats and instruments. Trillian, Leaving price aside, it is very important to find a bass that you enjoy playing, does it feel right in your sweaty palms ?? I've gone through twelve basses in the last thirteen years for one reason or another. I'm currently on a near top of the range Bass Collection and it's a good all round bass. Most of all, have fun playing, good luck. Anyway, it's been ages since I've posted. I've been busy with a lot of things, still looking for another job here in the UK. I got a copy of ZAL by another digest member The Copse. Some nice stuff on there, there's also some nice bass playing but that's another story. From: Winman42 @ aol.com Date: Wed, 16 Apr 1997 16:16:53 -0400 (EDT) Went to Shea Stadium last nite, and saw the Mets beat the Dodgers. (it's about time they beat someone!) Also saw President Clinton speak about Jackie Robinson, and saw his number 42 retired by Major League Baseball. This is the first time that a number has been retired by an entire Sport!! Boy there must really be something magical about that number. Here is a small excerpt from today's issue of The New York Dail News: "In the hallway behind home plate at Shea Stadium, underneath a sign that read "White House Press Filing Center," the President of the United States and the widow of Jackie Robinson sat together and watched baseball on the television set in front of them. It was the bottom of the fifth inning in a game between the Mets and the Dodgers and a small Mets rally, a small cheer like an overture to the ones to come, was started by Butch Huskey, who wears No. 42 because of Jackie Robinson. Who grew up in a better America because Robinson wore that number for the Brooklyn Dodgers one April afternoon in Brooklyn, 50 years ago yesterday." But they are still so new, a used one may be difficult to find - at least I've not seen any in my area. As for price, I payed only $960 for mine brand new a year ago, with the soft case. As for the Fender suggestion...well, it isn't just the Mexican and Korean models that "suck in the big way." This may start a small war, but I've yet to lay thumb to a Fender product that didn't suck out LOUD! And I definitely wouldn't recommend one for Mark King-style playing - "That ain't woikin'!". Of course, I certainly respect the Fender's undisputed place in music history. Yes, but my DFL 25.000 Mark Levinson No.39 CD player with the separate DFL 39.000 Mark Levinson No.30.5 HDCD D/A converter should be at least as good as my DFL 52.500 Transrotor Quintessence turntable, which is equipped with a DFL 12.200 Symphonic Line RG 8 Gold cartridge.......... And now seriously, Dirk you know I have a very old (20 years ?) AKAI AP-206C turntable (not their worst one-by the way) with a not so very expensive Ortofon cartridge. So how can it sound verry much better than my 11 year old TEAC PD200 CD player ? (which is not a bad player, Onkyo build it) ? OK, I agree there's been a lot of improvement on the A/D front, maybe I _should_ go and listen for another player, mmmm let's see the Marantz CD-67SE seems to be a very good player for it's price....... (Randall-defender of ATRAC are you listening ?) Anduhhh Dirk-man a turntable with DIRECT DRIVE ? ? ? YUGH ! Well, karaoke is fairly popular in Holland, although there are only phew "Karaoke bars" in the Asian sence. It is more like a Karaoke show coming to the local bar, disco, party or whatever. I do remember a karaoke show where two L42 songs were listed: It's over and I don;t remember the other one, must have been LIL or RITF or something like that. I even thought about doing It's over, but then I thought it would be pearls for the pigs, so I didn't. The best Karaoke shows use Pioneer Laserdisc equipment and Pioneer also makes the "songs" for this equipment.
