They also play HOt Water on an earlier video I have of the Prince's Trust Concert. > Next, released versions of "Love Games" Does anyone know if the flexi > version is different from the 12" that was released? It's a pleasure to finally be able to address everyone on the digest...I've been checking in for some time, but have been on the move and consequently unable to set up my own Email account until now. Anyway, I'd like to start by thanking everyone involved in the AYGB project. I just got my copy about a week ago, and it hasn't left my CD player yet. It's a very generous thing you are doing and I eagerly await future projects. In keeping with tradition, I'll now bore you with some personal information about myself. I am, of course, a bass player (what's the ratio of bassists:civilians on this list, anyway?). I've been playing for 14 years, but only been hip to Level 42 since around 1990 so, alas, never got to see them live. Sigh... For the most part, I've made my living playing around the Washington, D.C. area but, after first coming to Japan two years ago (to play in a circus, of all things!), I fell in love with the place and have recently relocated to Zentsuji, Japan (get out your atlas!) to try my hand teaching English at Shikoku Gakuin University. Needless to say, I'll be keeping an eye out for any unique L42 goodies available here in Japan and will post info. if I find something of interest. It's always a pleasure to talk to other people who love this band as much as I do, and I welcome anyone (especially other digest readers in Japan) to Email me anytime. Thanks again -- it's a pleasure to be "living it up" with you! -Doug Ross ------------------------------ Subject: Arise Sir King... From: N Collier Date: Sun, 13 Apr 1997 18:19:22 +0100 Hello all, the other day I heard on the news that the late guitarist for, among others, David Bowie in the Ziggy Stardust days will be having a bandstand erected in his memory in his (and mine) home town of Hull. On the same day I heard that the director of the film 'The English Patient' (are we Brits snobs or what? - Can we only make high-brow costume dramas?) may be given the freedom of his birthplace - the Isle of Wight. It was as much as I could take! I immediatly sent the following letter to the editor of The Daily Telegraph - a very traditional and conservative national broadsheet newspaper. Unsurprisingly, my crank, parochial letter was given a wide berth by the editor - but at least I voiced my opinion (it's what I'm good at). Here, for your enjoyment, is the letter: > It was with interest that I learned Anthony Minghella may be made a > Freeman of the Isle of Wight, and disappointment that he would be the > first to receive the accolade. In a week when the city of Kingston upon > Hull revealed plans for a city centre bandstand in honour of Mick Ronson, > most famously the guitarist for David Bowie, I wonder, are the authorities > of the Isle of Wight unaware of the achievements of Mr Mark King? > > Mark is of course the former bassist and lead singer for the group Level > 42, a band who enjoyed enormous international success and admiration for > over 15 years, retaining a huge and devoted following today. Nigel ------------------------------ Subject: RCA video's From: "Andre Huijts" Date: Sun, 13 Apr 1997 21:57:18 +0200 Well, I have asked twice if anyone had PAL copies of _any_ "RCA" (i.e. Guaranteed, Forever Now period) video, but did not get a single reaction. This would mean no-one has them on PAL. I know some people have these videos on NTSC. Would anyone of these people be willing to copy these videos for me ? I will transfer them to PAL myself overhere in Holland. Tape and postage costs will of course be paid. THANX ! It's been a few weeks since I've posted, so I thought that I would say Hi to all and especially to all the newest members...It's nice not being the "Newbie" any more...:-) How is everyone adjusting to this time change thingy???It is basically kicking my butt, plus with all the flooding going on here in January (yes, that levee that broke that made CNN in Olivehurst was 5 miles south of my house, but we're ok.) has prompted early growth of pollens and such, which means allergies gallore!!! :-( Anyway, enough about me....I have a couple of questions and please remember that I am new at having L42 people to talk to... Can anyone recommend some jazz that is bass-oriented like L42??? And does anyone have a suggestion on what kind of bass is good to start on?? I have wanted to play for about 15 years now and I havent had the money or the motivation. (Long story) Naturally, I would like a JD or Status, but I am realistic at this point...Money talks. You may have noticed that I have picked up the name of Trillian...In discussion with Zap, he has "allowed" me to take the name only because Marvin is of male persuasion and I dont really want to be male...:-) No one has answered my question about the Hi-o Hi-o thing...I REALLY would like an answer so that I can end my decades of wondering...:-) Anyway, I guess I will go now for this is a bit long already TCOY, Trillian (a.k.a Lisa) "Not as we are, but as we dream...." ------------------------------ Subject: Take a look in my face From: Morgan Roussel Date: Sun, 13 Apr 1997 23:21:36 +0200 Hi there! Dirkies ------------------------------ Subject: Love Games (live) From: The Bassman Date: Mon, 14 Apr 1997 10:48:29 +0100 (BST) Hiya. Well I have some info regarding the live Love Games track which features on the breaker flexi disk and on the b side of the Weave Your Spell 7" I have both and can tell you that they are from the same recording. HOWEVER, the two are not strictly identical. The version on Weave Your Spell is about 5 seconds longer as it has some more of Marks speaking introduction "Here's one you might recognise......" or something like that. I would recommend the Weave Your Spell version because of this extra introduction. Unfortunately, I do not have the 12". I can't see the 12" version being any different. I seem to recall (when I did my own timings) that Lazlo's discography was slightly out (short)for the 7". I don't have my timings on me at the moment - I'll have to post those tomorrow. Hope that it's of some help. TCOY, Mark.
