I don't know what the shipping circumstances would be like there, but most people I know who have used CDNow have had a good experience, as have I. Now, having said that, I think I should manage your expectations a bit regarding Wally's music. It's new age. If you like new age, (e.g. Patrick O' Hearn, that kind of thing), you will like Wally Badarou's solo work - it's a fine representation of that genre. But it's not at all like Level 42. Except for the fact that "Words of a Mountain" starts off with a track called "Leaving This Place" which of course stirs the L42 connection immediately in your mind. Check it out, though. -- -Will "Longer things like nights I find end finer with a friend. . ." ------------------------------ Subject: Acronyms etc. From: country94.3 @ wmjc.com (country94.3) Organization: WMJC Radio Date: Sat, 12 Apr 1997 14:07:55 -0700 Hey, Micro-Kids: Thumbs up to Kudsia in the last Digest for asking about the acronym of "AYGB." I've been on the Digest subscriber list for a while and still don't know what "AYGB" means. Kudos, also, to Dirkies' last note to a fellow Digester who'd broken up with his girlfriend -- mentioning OOSOOM ("Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind" from the "Standing In the Light" set.) That phrase keeps your hopes up when the romantic prospects look bleak, or in my case never existed. :) Anyhow, a late contribution to Places I've Heard Level 42: Four months ago, I heard "Starchild" on WKTU in New York. Four years ago, I heard WRKS ("Kiss-FM") here in New York play "Starchild" on the station's Saturday Night dance party. (That show was really something. Imagine a set that could include UTFO, Roxanne Shante, Hall and Oates, Whodini, and "The Rappin Duke" -- "Aretha Franklin, Aretha Franklin, lemme rock you Aretha Franklin." Take care of yourself. Time to come to the aid of your good pal John V. I need some things to add to the second disc. They are: Does anyone have the Laserdisc (with Digital tracks, NTSC) of the 1989 Prince's Trust show with more live performances? Don't get me wrong.....it's great to talk anytime...but at least we would at least know one time when people would be able to be communi- cate with each other........... Let's throw out some ideas....... P.S. - Great room, Pat! Melsted) Date: Sat, 12 Apr 1997 17:38:32 -0500 (CDT) Hey everyone! Regarding Dave Crowson's post a few days back about Hubble's universal constant being 42, I received this reply from my good friend, who's a graduate student in astrophysics at Johns Hopkins University: > Actually, it isn't true. The value of Hubble's constant has been a > hot topic for years. Originally, there were two camps - some people > (most notably Alan Sandage), using one set of methods came up with > values that were originally around 40 or so. Several other methods > (or combinations of methods, used by several other prominent groups) > yielded numbers between 80 and 100. Over time, the methods have > become gradually better calibrated, and the bi-modal distribution of > values has slowly been converging. The latest figures put the value > as 68 +/- 10 or so, but the debate rages on... ...sorry... > > Of course, 42 is still the answer to the meaning of life, the > universe, and everything... So, unfortunately, that's the word from the science world. BTW, this is actually my first post to the digest although I've been "lurking" since last June or so, so I guess I'll provide some introductory info: I'm 26, live in Minneapolis and I've been a devoted Level 42 fan for over 10 years. I have slowly compiled the entire L42 discography over the past several years, which became really difficult when Polydor pulled most of their albums off U.S. shelves. I think the digest is invaluable, especially for AYGB and other news. For example, it would have taken me awhile to find out about the Imago Live at Wembley disc. I have two L42 anecdotes from my college days in New Haven, Connecticut. First, I saw Alan Holdsworth play at Toad's, with Gary Husband on drums in 1992 or so. It was an excellent show; Gary was blazing that night. Secondly, a local New Haven funk/R&B band called the Flashhorns used to play at a Mexican place called the Poco Loco Cafe. I was checking them out one Friday night because they had a pretty good bass player, and out of nowhere, they broke into a cover of "Dream Crazy." I nearly spilled my beer and fell out of my seat. Afterwards I talked to the lead singer and he said he had seen Level 42 play at Toad's years back and that they were one of the funkiest bands he'd ever seen. Very cool.
