From: "KAHAR, Kudsia (7250)" Date: Fri, 11 Apr 1997 19:18:54 +0800 Thank you Mark for being brave enough to ask what AYGB is. I'm Malaysian and I didn't have a clue either. I was hesitant to ask lest I sound like an unkewl (said with a Californian cheerleader drawl) Levelhead. :) By the way....g.weston.....I am awaiting your reply to my e-mail regarding both of us being in radio.....did ya know there's another chap from Cyprus also in radio and is attempting to educate the world about Level 42? MAY THE FUNKY FORCE BE WITH YOU..... Guys it's very lonely reading about what you want to record when I am completely ignorant about Past and Presence etc........ Anybody there wanna talk about other L42 stuff? Like why I can't get their longtime producer Wally Badarou's CDs? "so many years ago, heroes ruled the world......." I asked the guy to look it up in the computer and when he did, IT WASN'T REGISTERED IN THE COMPUTER! He asked, "Are you sure we had it? I'm not showing it in the computer." After assuring him that they did, this guy left and another came to work. I asked him the same thing and he said, "Oh, yeah, I sold that this morning!" Can you believe that crap!? I'm very sorry that I made that offer and won't be able to deliver on it. Cory, the Resurgence Forever Now was still there and I got it. Let me know if you are still interested. My apologies guys, next time I'll buy them first, them make the offer. This is the track listing for the first disc, now set in stone. I have started the de-clicking portion of the project, which let me tell you is not only time consuming, but is boring to the point of being some sort of punishment. I refuse to use an 'auto' declicker, as they never reshape the waveform like it should have been. I shrink down to the level of the 1 pixel=1 sample (I AM Dr. Shrinker!) and shape the 'tick' to look like the waveform before and after. It sounds much better than any program I've tried (except for NoNoise from Sonic Solutions, but hey.. it costs more than $10,000 (US), so fahgetaboutit. Disc Two: The Deleted Stuff (OR!) It's got the goodies like the Father's Shoes' EP live tracks, the other versions of 88 & Turn it On, the live remix of Follow Me, Plus two tracks from the various Prince's Trust Concerts, with Eric Clapton doing a solo on Running in the Family. Bizarre, but very true. (Are there any more Level 42 performances from these discs?) As well as the Guaranteed Live version of The Spirit is Free. Dirkies is right about that hum though. It's on the NTSC version as well. You really only notice it during the stage patter portions of the disc, and during the songs, it's not audible. I Eq'd it to get rid of the hum before and after the track without effecting the song. To tell you the truth, if you don't listen for it (even on a good system) you won't hear it. *BUT* as Dirkies pointed out, as soon as you hear it, you'll ALWAYS hear it. The curse... You folks need to decide if this is going to be the second disc instead of an entire live show. I feel that we can find 30 more minutes of cool stuff (anyone with that flexi disc out there??? If so, we need to get it to Winston so he can dub it to DAT) or anything else _that was released_. No boots for these two discs. That's for the next one (now called disc 3: The Rare Live) So if you have anything released that isn't listed above, email me RIGHT NOW at: jvenzon @ deltanet.com or jvenzon @ aol.com You'll be glad you did. Now: The Declicking topic. If anyone has a mint condition version of any of the vinyl tracks listed above, please email me about getting a dub to me. The versions that Winston have are useable, but they have been played over the years, and there is more crackle than I'd like. This is not a reflection on Winston's Level 42 Archive(TM), but rather the result of vinyl's age over the years. So noted: Thanks folks, and get crackin' on deciding what you want for the second disc. Also, if you have cool stuff, EMAIL RIGHT AWAY!!! John V And Lolita... > Secondly, I will restate my vote to only have one version of Turn It On > and 88... Errr... yes... I now record your vote... for the third time. I got it. ------------------------------ Subject: Seattle LevelPalooza #4 From: Bill Wilson Date: Fri, 11 Apr 1997 13:39:42 -0700 Hello all! I am a new digest member, my name is: Bilal I live in Nottingham in the UK. I have been a fan of LEVEL 42 since the early days and it feels as though I grew up with them. Level 42 will never die. I work in the UK for a large global / American Information Technology company. I am also currently studying for my MBA. I play a Jay Dee bass. I've followed Level 42 closely and met them on many occassions. I hope to get to know the digest community in due time. Please feel free to mail me. If anybody needs help with a Level 42 project, then I am here to help. What do I think is special about Level 42? 1. Without doubt they are geniuses of the art world. They are gifted individuals who created immortal masterpieces. I have seen other respected musicians and stars become over awed by Level42's talent at the concerts. I've seen respected musicians applauding L42 from their hearts. 2. Chemistry. They had tough times together we know, but they never let that come in the way of their common goal, great music. I know that even when things were really tough, they still had a deep embedded respect for each other. As fans we always got a thrill out of seeing them together, on and off stage. 3. Respect. I still cannot believe how good they were to their fans. I remember them signing autographs and standing for photo after photo in the cold English weather for ages after the gigs. Their interest in the fans was always 100% genuine. The chant goes on... My best L42 moment: everytime I hear their music, especially live. My worst: I cut short a trip in the USA in order to catch the Forever Now tour. I arrived at the concert to learn this was the last tour. Boons Daughter: Let me clarify the issue over Boon's daughter. Ms C Gould is now 20 years old, and has a lot to be proud of in my opinion. - Bilal
