Disconnected: Service not available to you --- :-( And for the rest, I think we can go on with the L42 multimedia CDROM project (I stopped with all the other CD audio projects, due to copyright violations, so don't ask me anything about that anymore) I don't think anyone would start a lawsuit against me because I scanned some images found in magazines etc. The rest fo the disc is freeware anyway (MIDI files, Digests, other texts, logos) So keep coming up with ideas please, we need to fill the 650 MB with something. I had another idea: scan all pages of the fanclub magazines (some have great photographs). I only have these magazines from late 1991 onwards, so if there are any other guys out there with more (or all?) magazines, I'm willing to scan them for the CDROM... Your credits will be included of course. The moolah is in the mail today. Can't wait to hear it. Also, I used to love 'Lancelot Linc - Secret Chimp'. For anyone who isn't familar, Lancelot Linc was a chimpanzee who was a James Bond type spy. The entire show was done with chimps, and dubbed by actors. pretty silly, but funny. On A Level note, I was talking to Bill Wilson about this when he was here in New York. In the liner notes for 'Guaranteed' there is a picture of 'Alison Taylor', but the liner notes don't say what she contributed. Any Help? Thanks, Winston ------------------------------ Subject: CDs From: lolita @ interserv.com Date: Thu, 10 Apr 1997 05:58:01 -0700 Yo! Two items about the discs: > Now how about if any/all of our Digest-produced disks bore a legend > something like "Fabricated not-for-profit by Level42 enthusiasts. Further > copies available at materials cost only (typically US$12) from > "? ARE YOU CRAZY?! These discs are illegal, and even though we are not selling them for profit, that doesn't make them any less so. Why on earth would you lead someone directly to the person who can provide it? If Polygram wanted to go after us, they wouldn't have to do much research in that case, would they. You don't know who is going to get their hands on this CD, so I vote a resounding no to that idea. If someone wants a copy, they should get it from a digest member they are friends with, or make a DAT, MD or cassette copy of it. We wouldn't be able to control who receives it if random people could contact the person burning them directly. The reason for control is that we feel we can at least trust the people on this digest to do the right thing, but not outsiders. That's my opinion. Secondly, I will restate my vote to only have one version of Turn It On and 88, and to name the CDs Past & Presence Part I and Part II. I don't know how many preteens go out >and scope the London club scene, though. Point well taken. I'll see if I can find out about that...although she did say she was on the Madonna tour with L42...mid 80s, right? Maybe Boon had more than one kid. but one little counterpoint is this: Why would she pretend to be Boon's kid? Why not Mark's? Or somebody more famous, like, say, Tom Petty, or Prince or somebody? Really though, if you're in a name-dropping contest, and you're making it up as you go along, "Boon Gould" is not the first name I'd drop, much as I love the guy. :) Well, I'll see what I can find out. Zak Nilsson Xaqtly Music http://www.primenet.com/~xaqtly [I'd venture to say that "Boon Gould" is much more of a household-name in the U.K. than here... Every Brit I've ever met has heard of Level 42 (although not all of them like them.) Actually, Netscape has a Java-enabled browser for Linux. This chat thing that Pat set up is very cool. I think we should all log on during the day and say hello :) I'm online right now with Pat and Dan Merz; it's fun! [oooooh! I must have missed that dig on Linux! That's the final straw, Mr Flanagan! No tracks are lost and some extra "goodies" are included. I vote with Lolita's pick for the titles (I cannot remember them offhand). Also, thanks to Zap and everyone who worked on the AYGB project. My hat is off to you! On a non-Level 42 note, I am desperately trying to locate a game written by CompuServe called "Enhanced Adventure". It is a takeoff of the ever popular Woods & Crowther game, "Colossal Cave". I want the 751 point "enhanced version" if it still exists. If anyone knows where I can find it OR if you have a copy of it, please email me at blake777 @ hotmail.com. I have been looking for this game for about 7 years now! Thanks all! And now back to our regularly scheduled program..... Blake Phillips ------------------------------ Subject: Thunderthumbs on CD? From: Colin Campbell Date: Thu, 10 Apr 1997 12:14:06 -0700 Searching thru GEMM, I saw a British dealer offering two items: A 2LP set credited to "Level 42/Thunderthumbs" called "Move Grove/Nightclubbing" and a new CD credited to Thunderthumbs containing Freedom/Freedom A Go-Go. What the heck is a go-going on with that? (This must be mis-listings, right? The category on both of them is "Punk" -- but go to http://gemm.com , search for Level 42, and click on the Thunderthumbs info that comes up to check it out for yourself.) If others would like to contribute, that would be great! I'm still trying to gather homebrew or even other professional L42 mixes so I can put together a comprehensive tape and make copies for everyone. Speaking of which....... Winston, I got your megamix tape today. Really good stuff here. Did you make this mix yourself or is it done by others? I think this would be a good stepping stone to putting together a mix tape. Your thoughts? That's all for now. Right, then! I live near Toronto, Ontario Canada and I'm glad to see that there's a place on the Net for L42 fans to communicate. One question I have so far is what does AYGB mean? Please excuse my ignorance but I'm Canadian eh! Anyway, i think I'll go listen to Kansas City Milkman now....Take care of yourselves! Mark
