Unfortunately my cd system arrived on the scene much later. Can anyone tell me where to get any L42 cd singles from - prior to Guaranteed ? Cheers Helen PS. Virgin in Glasgow stock the Resurgence FN+4 CD although I think it lacks something as I prefer All Over You to some of the other tracks which were from the "old" cd. ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V96 #7 From: Fabfriday @ aol.com Date: Wed, 10 Jan 1996 11:27:26 -0500 This is my first message to post to the digest, I have been a US fan since early 1984 when I heard the first version of Hot Water from True Colours and then purchased every CD after World Machine...... After years at York College in Pennsylvania, I found all of the early CD's (Not including the Early Tapes) for less than $11.00 and scooped them all up.... I've been a dj for over 5 years and have placed Level 42 in heavy rotation wherever I am on the air, turning on new fans..... Most people have heard the songs in the US, but never knew the name of the band..... For anyone in the NJ area, Bergen County, the Tower Records on Route 17 south in Paramus has all the Level 42 imports for $18.00, and the first UK Version of Forever Now for about $30.00.... I have also found a good deal of Level 42 CD Singles and Compilations there as well...... Another good source is Border's Books and Music at the Garden State Mall where I found the new Resurgance version of Forever Now for about $20.00... Most of the larger chains are carrying a great deal of imports now, and there are some bargains to be found..... So, before you order by mail and spend twice as much, check out all the import sections at yourlocal music stores...... They are usually updated every few days, and you never know what you may find.... That's how I found Boon's Tin Man for $18.00.......... For any NJ area fans, contact me and we can chat about the best UK band..... Until the next issue................................................Fabfriday ------------------------------ Subject: Forever Now From: Kirith @ aol.com Date: Wed, 10 Jan 1996 22:37:31 -0500 Hello All! I got a great Christmas present in the mail a few weeks ago! BobC was kind and gracious enough to send me his Forever Now tracks on tape, and I'll bet I've almost worn the tape out already! After not hearing anything from L42 in so long, it was awesome to hear them sing again. It seemed right away the album was more upbeat than some of the previous with some real groovin' tunes. Heck the first time I heard " Love in a Peaceful World" I wanted to lead a campaign to get it some airplay in the States - it definitely could be a hit on US radio. Of course about a month after I had ordered the CD from CDNow (FN+4) I received it, and there seemed to be a huge difference. I don't know if my car plays tapes fast, or if the tape is itself recorded a little faster, or if my CD is somehow screwy, but the songs on the CD definitely sounded slower to me. It actually made a big difference! Many of the songs seem to flow a bit better sped up a touch. My problem is, I don't know which is the correct speed! I certainly wouldn't want "All Over You" to be slowed down any -it's great how it is! That song really rocks! ( Of course I only have this one courtesy of BobC! ) It's much better than "Take Care of Yourself". My other favorites on the release are "Model Friend", "The Bends", "Sunbed Song", "Love in a Peaceful World" - Hey just about all of them. The new version of "Billy's Gone" is much better - the background "yow, yow yow yow etc." is mixed in a lot better, and you can hear the bass line a lot clearer. There's nothing like that bass. Nothing. Those guys just keep getting better and better. I guess we can only wish for more. Enough for now. I'll be raving about this album for a long time to come. BTW, is there any hope of US airplay of any of these songs from FN? Take care all! Strangest lyric from FN - the infamous " Holy Grail, Holy Cow! " Thanks again to BobC - you really helped make my Christmas! -Nate ------------------------------ Subject: I.G. From: TTrudell @ aol.com Date: Wed, 10 Jan 1996 22:14:56 -0500 >Many of us who grew up in the instant gratification >generation forget that >not so long ago, we wouldn't have even been able to find out >about such >releases easily, let alone get hold of them at reasonable >prices! When CDSomeday advertises that a Forever Now +4 CD is available, I start drooling like Pavlov's pooch. When it still hasn't been delivered SIX weeks later, I feel it's appropriate to be upset. Don't you? Instant Gratification ain't in it . . . to be sure. Bad Song Lyric - "What if God was one of us, something something stranger on a bus, going home alone, no one calls on the phone, except the Pope maybe in Rome." GAAAAAH! ------------------------------ Subject: Digest #8 and Instrumentals From: RolfieV @ aol.com Date: Wed, 10 Jan 1996 22:10:03 -0500 Hi everyone, >I have most of the L42 albums up to Guaranteed (except Early Tapes). Get The Early Tapes! Especially if you like the their instrumentals. >My name is Zak Nilsson and I love L42. I really, really do. Ok kid, you're in. > I would have gotten into it sooner, but nobody thought to play me >any of their stuff. A crime that should be punishable by death. >I can't say I own anything special in the way of L42; just most of their >albums sold in the U.S. Yes! I thought I was the only one. Thank you Zak! >I'm just glad to be a Levelhead! Amen. >DE 2 Germany Guten Tag! Wie geht's? Level 42 ist ausgehzeichnet! Ja? Schrieb mal wieder. Aufwiederhoren. New Subject: The demise of the L42 Instrumental What's the deal? We get 5 instrumentals on their first effort,The Early Tapes, 3 on their second , Level 42 and 2 on their third, The Pusuit Of Accidents and then NONE!! Well ok, except for Foundation And Empire which did finally make it to A Physical Presence. You *might* say A Pharaoh's Dream comes close and *Maybe* The Ape but that would be pushing it. I don't have True Colours or FN. Are there any instrumentals on these? Does anyone know why they stopped making instrumentals? This was definantly one of their strong points, especially in concert. Why do you think we're all pissed that the Physical Presence CD left them off. WHAT HAPPENED?!?!?! That's why I think I like Mark's solo album. I just wish he would have broken up "The Essential" a bit. I love the little 4-5 minute ones like the ones on The Early Tapes. Take Care, Rolf ------------------------------ Subject: I'm new here.... From: "Heather Swanson" Date: Wed, 10 Jan 1996 23:07:39 EST Hi! I just found the Level 42 homepage today, and I was thrilled. I'm a 19 year old Canadian fan (since the mid-eighties, no less), and am therefore the victim of a massive info blackout when it comes to L42. I've heard almost all of "Forever Now", but I have yet to hear "Learn to Say No". Is it worth buying the CD for? I'd like to get my hands on a copy, regardless, but I'm wondering how much I'll have to pay for it! I'm always up for new info, so feel free to mail me! A Levelhead in Canada, Heather ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Heather Swanson ------------------------------ Subject: Few things.. From: TSonoi @ aol.com Date: Thu, 11 Jan 1996 01:03:57 -0500 How are you guys and girls doing? Loz, make sure to ask Crockford about Mark's new album and tour dates (if he does). Me and my dad got together during the break and we made some stickers. It's not a fancy designed one, it's a simple one. "LEVEL 42" each letter is individually cut out by machine and cover with transfering sheet. ( Wow! I can't write English! I've been in Japan for too long! ) Anyway, it's 1 and half tall and about 12 inch long. Get this. I will GIVE AWAY these stickers to whoever will cover the postege. If you are interested, please email me PERSONNALY ASAP! I have 16 white, 5 blue and 5 red and when they're gone, they're gone. So hurry!!! See ya!! Takeo Sonoi
