From: mmeldgaard @ VNET.IBM.COM Date: Thu, 28 Mar 96 13:11:54 CET Hi there. I recently joined this Level forum and this seems like the perfect place to ask about a supposedly limited edition of Level 42's album 'Forever Now'. I've heard that you get 6 bonus tracks on this album, and therefore I'VE GOT TO HAVE IT....But How?????????????? pls help asap Best Regards, Morten Meldgaard (mmeldgaardøvnet.ibm.com) ******************************************************************* Fawlty Towers - The Germans Hospital Scene (basil took a nasty bump to the head) Sister: -Now come along, back into bed. My fault Eric - I'm a member of (and webmaster for) the Tony Hancock Appreciation Society - (if you don't know who he is, check out my website - see signature). The Society has an annual reunion in Bournemouth and, since I was going down there (it's a long way from Newcastle to Bournemouth) I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone and visit Joe Daflo's since IOW is right off the coast of Bournemouth. It's as simple as that - I agree, for a "major" pilgrimage the trip would be better if it were scheduled for vacation times. Since I was definitely going anyway I simply asked if anyone wanted to join me. > I just called to check on some airfares, and the airline I called > (United) is sold out of their "special" international rate flight that > whole week. I haven't checked with other airlines yet, but it's > probably the same deal. Of course their regular flights (read: regular > rates) still have seats left, but they're going for more than US$600... > way too much for just a few days of vacation! I'm awaiting info on air travel and connections to IOW, I'll let you all know asap but the island is close to London and I'm sure that travelling between the two would be easy. > Like some others (probably), I would be willing to set up a vacation for > myself sometime in May or later when I can plan the travel more in advance... > Maybe we need "The IOW Pilgrimmage... the Sequel!" Anyone?! Count me in. Of course, this whole thing could be a disaster, in which case this dummy run in April for a full-scale pilgrimage at a later date would be useful and could save a lot of air fares and travel - Joe DaFlo's may well be crap, let's wait for a reply to my letter before we lay out any money. BTW, I'm not sure what the band would make of some of our threads - east coast seaside resorts, jihads and now root crops! - I suppose with this rich/banal subject matter we couldn't be accused of being L42 "trekkies" or "train spotters". From: Mr Fish Date: Thu, 28 Mar 1996 12:40:35 +0000 (GMT) First point, one or two people have seemed a bit confused about the origin or 'Can't Walk You Home'. Er - I suspect that most people here know where it comes from, but for those who don't it's the B-side of The Sun Goes Down (one of the greatest L42 songs in my opinion). Could it be that this is not the case for some of the international releases of 'Sun Goes Down' (US especially) ??? It would perhaps be interesting to find out if any of the L42 singles are different in the USA to the UK versions. Second point - this IOW trip's beginning to sound interesting and I'm thinking of tagging along (if that's OK). I guess it would be quite easy for me to get there as I'm living in Portsmouth at the moment and can see Ryde from my house (I'm probably the Digest member closest to the King himself geographically (5 miles?). Sorry - I couldn't resist throwing in that useless piece of information!!). The only problem for me is that my final year project has to be handed in the week beginning the 22nd April - I guess I'll have to fit it in somehow *. Occasionally we go over there to play at the Paradiso, Milky Way or It! I can warmly recommend these three clubs for a nice evening out. But beware before you enter, some days have different ommm... door-codes. We went to one of these clubs (can't remember which) to party like on a sunday I think, and found it to be gay-night! I am not dissing, I'm just saying that's not my thing. People in Amsterdamn are very friendly and speak amazingly good english. Just grab some clubkids to see whats happening. Eric says: > Like some others (probably), I would be willing to set up a vacation for > myself sometime in May or later when I can plan the travel more in advance... > Maybe we need "The IOW Pilgrimmage... the Sequel!" Anyone?! I'd like to be involved in this JoDaFlo's 'pilgrimage' too, particularly as I live in Southampton (on the mainland, just north of the IOW, for those who don't know). Unfortunately, I'll be at a conference in Brussels from 15-21 April. Bogus... I don't want to suggest that you all change the date of the trip. Let me know how it goes, then perhaps we can arrange a JoDaFlo's II, later on in the year? (I've been watching Letterman too much) I was just thinking about all the other bands I like (such as Alphaville, Ultravox, Talk Talk, Mr Mister...) and decided that, playing the right songs, these bands could all be really great unplugged. But then I wondered whether Level 42 would have been good unplugged. Personally, I think that if they would've played the right songs (Past Lives, Freedom Someday, You Can't Blame Louis and stuff like that) they would absolutely have KICKED ASS!!!!! Am I right? Perhaps you can help me (particularly you Brits on the second one): a) Heart on the Line -- while Mark is singing "his heart out on the line" a bunch of times, what's being "chanted"? It sounds like "circle me, encircle me..." but that doesn't make too much sense. b) On Fait Accompli -- when Crockford is talking about how much it costs to put the band on the road, he keeps saying that they've got "half a dozen [artics] out there." The "artic" word baffles me. Even though I lived in London for a spell, I never heard this word or anything sounding like it. Is he referring to a motorcoach or a large truck for moving the band's stuff or what? -Rob Rob Kadel Department of Sociology Emory University ------------------------------ Subject: The Pilgrimage From: Daniel James Organization: Statistical Sciences Date: Thu, 28 Mar 1996 13:56:13 -0800 From: "Eric J. Anyone?! To be fair, I think that this trip has been in the works for quite some time now. However, now that things are looking like they're actually going to happen for sure, I am now looking into the possibility for real, whereas before I was just thinking that it sounded like fun. I agree that May, or even June would be better for me. I could spend at least a week then, rather than just fly on over to the UK for the weekend. Perhaps my girlfriend could arrainge the time off by then as well. I find it very interesting that the Ferry ride is so expensive. This must be a private company. In Seattle, I can take a Ferry from here to Canada for less money than that (and it's a 4 hour trip). The Accomidations sure are reasonable though--that's less than a 3rd what we pay here (I think at last I saw the exchange rate was 1.6BP=$1US). I sure wish there was a way this trip could be delayed--I'd sure like to put some faces to the names on this list. ------------------------------ Subject: Isle of Wong From: "Bruce Conrad" Date: 28 Mar 1996 17:00:36 U During my trip to London, I lent my copy of FN+4-2 to my roommate. He loved it! Yet another convert. He's now enjoying the sounds of World Machine. Although he thought 'Past Lives' was called 'Pad Thai' - he must've been hungry! I picked up an Isle of Wight travel guide while I was there, though I didn't get to the IOW. (Next time maybe) I can send it someone if they want. (Maybe you could tape some rarities for me in return). I can also give anyone info on the B&B I stayed at near London - very reasonable. (about $30 a night) p.s. Eric - I'm usually in Lexington every Sunday. I could drop it off if you're interested.
