Bond Themes Marcus Bone ------------------------------ Subject: Level 42 Bond Theme From: "Julian Arnold" Date: 27 Feb 1996 07:02:43 -0800 Hi, What a concept! me being a major Level 42 fan and a big fan of Bond too. I have on occasion thought about why they weren't selected to do one but I think if they had one or teo number one hit singles before the brothers Gould left they might have had a chance. The type of song? well I don't think anything they've done wouold have been chosen although if they had an up tempo version of "Shapeshifter" with those Bond-type orchestra stabs it might have worked... Mark King certainly has the voice but slapping his trusty Alembic in one of Maurice Binders' title sequences? I can't see it some how. Maybe now that Mark is solo he might do the next Bond movie...? anyone ?. Just imagine.."..the names King, Mark King and I'm a git from the Isle of Wight!" - (his own words!) An excellent point though. Recently aquired Forever Now - Resurgence release through Audiophile and it "Rocks" as you guys say over here.. I also bought "Also available in Green!" a CD published by none other than Trace Elliot! with 17 songs of the worlds best Bassists and of course MK is there with "At this great distance", my first time to hear it and its a brilliant song. I also bought Boon's Tin Man and he can't sing for nuts but the songs are well written. Thanks for listening "Look at the crazy people all headin' for the bay...!" Julian. ------------------------------ Subject: King's Funky Bass From: ZNilsson @ handel.jlc.net (Zak Nilsson) Date: Tue, 27 Feb 1996 08:56:34 -0500 Hey there; I was just listening to "Physical Presence" (the CD, not the song) and I couldn't believe the bass solo Mark did at the beginning of Love Games. The man is very, very fast. In fact, it was so good it reminded me directly of Victor Wooten. Why was Mark never chosen for Best Bassist in the World? Who knows. Anyway, great CD. They should have more live CDs. In fact, they should just re-form and be done with it. Then they could go on tour and stop by my house... I loaned mine a few years back to a girlfriend (along w/ RITF) and we ended on bad terms-never to see my CD's again. Of course, RITF was super easy to replace, but I have yet to find another copy of the UK WM. Therefore, someone please help!! Does anyone know where I can get a copy, new or used, for a decent price?? My lists are sent up this way; the magazine-scam ads don't get through despite the fact that they're posted to my lists every couple of weeks. -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo @ swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo) [Ok, I figured out how to work this... see note below! -Eric] ------------------------------ Subject: Imports Cont'd From: Lazlo Nibble Date: Tue, 27 Feb 1996 09:22:18 -0700 (MST) > One quick question regarding the US World Machine album. > I have seen the same CD with slightly different covers. From: Dan Del Savio Date: Tue, 27 Feb 1996 13:17:09 -0500 James Bond song ----- how about The Bends? dan ------------------------------ Subject: L42, You're Sure To Get The Bonds From: John Edward Martin Shuford Date: Tue, 27 Feb 1996 09:46:11 -0800 (PST) I'm surprised no one else has picked up on this question yet with anything close to an affirmative answer, including our boy LOZ (who would have been the one person I thought FOR SURE would know this). In the same place that I have read mention of the alledged L42 track "Mourning", circa The Early Tapes, I also read that L42 was cutting a demo for the upcoming Bond film. This "news" appeared in the unofficial fanzine, The Pursuit of 42, done by a guy named Terry Ross (i believe) and who, as far as I can tell, is THE MAN when it comes to L42 information. The story is this: L42 and The Art of Noise each submitted demos for the upcoming Bond film (supposedly). This was back before Goldeneye, back when they were hassling over canning Timothy Dalton and trying to get Pierce Brosnan. Also, the previous two Bond films had been bombs, so there was great acrimony and delay in getting the new project off the ground. Now, pure speculation here, but L42 may have done a demo for a project that never got off the ground, or they may have changed focus and decided to thus go with a more US-ready-marketable performer (like Tina Turner). Further speculation: the only L42 song I've ever heard that sounds like a Bond tune is "The Bends," and my suspicion is that (at least in part) that song started life (maybe in tune, or bassline, or something, but not necessarily the song as we have seen it completed) as the L42 demo for the Bond people. Your conjectured replies are welcome, as well as anyone who has actual information beyond what Terry Ross provides. Who knows--someone could even call Crockford and confirm/disaffirm this. john "disguise the limit" (whatever the hell that means) ------------------------------ Subject: SPAM blocker! From: "Eric J. I've been aware of this technique for a while, and tried to configure it on my mailing list software before, but was never successful. Well, I finally bit the bullet and sifted through the scripts to find out how to make it work. The set up is now such that you *must* be subscribed to Level 42 Digest/Go West Digest/ Incognito Digest in order to post to it. If you're not on the official "subscriber" list, your posting will get junked. PLEASE let me know (mailto:eric @ worldmachine.com) if you're a subscriber and you don't see your posting in the next day's digest! Assuming that our annoying spammers don't subscribe to the list before posting, this should filter all these illegitimate magazine plugs. Date: Tue, 27 Feb 96 12:12:00 PST Dear members of the 42 crew, I have but one simple request. Please someone out there tell me where Resurgence is located and does anyone have their phone number, WWW site (if any) or e-mail or snail mail address. Anyone? I am out here in California (might as well be the moon as far as trying to get Level 42 items) and nobody has any idea where to order Forever Now + 4. I've got to have that CD!!! My new office has padded walls, so I should still be in one piece by the time someone responds. To anyone that can help, I thank you. - Jerry I wear my Ray Bans driving in the car, even on a cloudy day...
