I hope you get everything you desire this holiday season. I also have a question. What is the AYGB CD? Man, that made me laugh! I gotta get me that software! We should run Boon's lyrics thru the pig and see what happens... -Marc ------------------------------ Subject: LIVE...and others From: Shawn Foster Date: Mon, 23 Dec 1996 08:06:36 -0600 Merry Christmas! I was cruising through BestBuy on Saturday getting some things for my nieces and other friends...when I felt the unresistable urge to go over to the "L" section of the CD's and look for some things. Lo and behold...LIVE AT WEMBLEY!! Might I say that I almost hit a car going home to throw the disc into the changer and play FreedomRock (Well, crank it up, dude!) Wow....outstanding music...great sound...thumpin' bass...what more could you ask for...most of my favorites...it was just super...I hadn't gotten a new L42 disc in a while...so it was kind of great to find one. Lovegames was really really good...(although I am partial to the Presence version) Take A Look was interesting. It was all fantastic... it just shows to go ya that musically craftsmanship still exists. The planet isn't being ruled by one hit wonders with mixers and drum machines. Shawn ..I saw a solider standing in a bar he looked so tired, he'd come so far Said, " I need to love someone, before they drop the atom bomb." Shawn ------------------------------ Subject: Happy Holidays From: "BPHILLIPS" Date: Mon, 23 Dec 96 08:54:29 CST I would like to wish everyone on the digest a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Hope to see all of you at the Level Fest in Oklahoma next year! Joyeaux Noel! Blake ------------------------------ Subject: UK Mix Of The Chinese Way From: Winman42 @ aol.com Date: Mon, 23 Dec 1996 09:43:38 -0500 Hello, everyone. Merry X-mas and all that! Just wanted to share some info with everyone. As this pertains to 'The Chinese Way', I'm sure the interest is limited. (ha,ha) Am I the only one who likes this cut? :-) I recently picked up a new CD titled 'Brit Funk'. It's the first in a series called 'Classic Grooves'. The track listing is as follows: Hi Tension - British Hustle Linx - You're Lying Level 42 - The Chinese Way Light Of The World - Time Beggar & Co - (Somebody) Help Me Out Freeez - Southern Freeez Phil Fearon & Galaxy - Dancing Tight Shakatak - Nightbirds I-Level - Give Me Central Line - Walking Into Sunshine Junior - Mam Used To Say Imagination - In And Out Of Love What makes this CD interesting is that the the mix of 'The Chinese Way' is the full 7:03 UK mix from the original UK 12" single. As far as I know, this version has never appeared on a CD before. In any event, I don't have it on CD. Every CD I have, including my version of 'The Pursuit..' contains the John Luongo remix. The UK remix is the one with the "pre-verb" vocals in the intro. Does anyone know if this IS on any other CD? I checked my copy of the discography, but didn't see it mentioned anywhere. TCOY, Winston p.s. All of the 'Incognito' fans may want to note the tracks 4 & 5 on this CD. "Light Of The World" is the earlier incarnation of 'Incognito', before they split and formed 'Beggar & Co' and 'Incognito' Beggar & Co were the horn section of 'Light Of The World' ------------------------------ Subject: Latest News???? From: "Lazlo Nibble" Date: Mon, 23 Dec 1996 10:38:21 -0700 (MST) > Why is it called (version)? Sounds like a partial title. Dunno, but I have a number of alternative versions by different artists (Thomas Dolby, Scritti Politti, et al.) subtitled "(version)". -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo @ swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo) ------------------------------ Subject: MERRY CHRISTMAS From: Mikey42 @ aol.com Date: Mon, 23 Dec 1996 14:07:57 -0500 Well it is hard to believe that it is Christmas time yet once again, seems like only last year! :) I will be out of town until January 7, I will be in Colorado (just west of DENVER) so any Level fans near or around Denver and/or Frisco, let me know, just E-mail me and I will endeavour to hook up with any fan out there! Yes, Mikey is going to learn how to SKI, I shall probably end up in a full body plaster by the end of it all! WELL, next year hold many LEVEL 42 releases and some concerts perhaps! Also, 1997 hold the very first annual LEVELFEST 1997, which should by most account be the biggest Level 42 gathering, outside a L42 concert, EVER! So PLEASE set the time and money aside and come to this wonderful event. The HAPPIEST OF THE HOLIDAY SEASONS AND A PEACEFUL NEW YEAR! Mikey42 "see you in 1997!" ------------------------------ Subject: Another Christmas note.. From: rcol @ ix.netcom.com (Randall L Collins) Date: Mon, 23 Dec 1996 13:32:42 -0800 First of all, to everyone on our digest, have a Level Christmas (or a Dolby Christmas or a Wang Chung Christmas.) Has anyone heard from Jaime at SELL @ sb.com ? Mikey42: My wife seems to be very interested in attending the LEVELFEST this spring and because of that, I'll need to be talking to you about packages and things. Love in a Peaceful World, Randall ------------------------------ Subject: The World Is Full of Johns From: J Shuford Date: Mon, 23 Dec 1996 14:21:36 -0800 (PST) JohnV, JohnS or just plain John. How do we differentiate all the Johns on this list? Well, I will offer myself up for a signature change. After much thought of which 42 nicknames I could pilfer for my own (Mr Pink, Mother Slap-n-Tickle, Wheelspin Warrior, New Avenger, Beezer One, The Handsome Rugged Man, Thunderthumbs, Micro Kid, A Pharoah's Dream, or maybe even Kouyate), I've decided to go with the nickname that I've had since I was a kid: SHUF Now about that Loz character... ;) On a 42 note, I just watched the 1986 film "The Mission" the other night. I had forgotten that Ms Something About You, Cherie Lunghi, was in that film. I halfway expected to see Boon as a monk, Phil as a Viceroy, Mike as a mercenary, and Mark as a bishop. And now, just for you sons and daughters, here's a holiday greeting to you taken directly from Mark King--MERRY CHRISTMAS, Y'ALL. And to everyone on the Digest who does not celebrate Christmas or who has recently participated in another form of religious celebration or seasonal festival, here's wishing us all joy, companionship, freedom from dopes like CDEurope, and (what else) Love in a Peaceful World. Shuf shuf @ darkwing.uoregon.edu ------------------------------ Subject: John V vs. John M From: EMIKATIE @ aol.com Date: Mon, 23 Dec 1996 22:11:41 -0500 What with the time of year upon us, I'm not sure how many of us are still dialing in. So if you're here, hello. Has anyone ever called CD Banzai and gotten a call back? I've left 3 messages but no call back. With the CD Europe bashing I''ve seen, is CD Banzai OK to deal with? Any experience you care to share? To John V: > First you show up and start signing your posts 'John' which forces me to > post 'John V' so people won't get us confused. *THEN* you start casting > shadows on the fine package that I am working on (the follow up to the > AYGB..) and then this! > > Outside, you 'n' me... RIGHT now!!! I use the corny sign-off "The Machine Stops". I suppose I could use that in conjunction with "M" as in John M as in John V etc. > I kind of like how you refer to me as "The Creators".. kinda makes me > feel like I'm on Star Trek. (Sorry, couldn't help myself...) Glad you picked up on the reference (intended). BTW Has anyone seen the episode with stardate 4242 where Zulu asks Kirk, "what speed Captain", whereby Kirk replies, "warp factor forty two." Isn't the Vulcan hand sign for "live long and prosper" the same sign as the Level 42 hand sign? Here's a pat on the back for the creators. While playing Scrabble with my wife this past weekend, I had AYGB on my big stereo. She is familiar with a lot of their stuff and she remarked how good the disc was, (material-wise) and asked if it was a new disc. I then told her all about the digest and disc etc. and she thought it was pretty cool. (Please, no comments regarding the Scrabble reference. If you think it's a sissy game, I'll challenge anyone in the digest to a match. Buy the weigh, speling is won of the mane requirments kneaded two play the game good.) Just in case this is my last transmission, everyone, have a safe and Happy Holiday season. The Machine Stops.
