I just sent them some feedback, asking them various favors pertaining to Level 42. Why don't we all send them a message asking for some substantial Level 42 offerings?! If they get 200+ requests for L42, that should have SOME impact. I asked that they play the American Bandstand program with L42 on it for one, and to play the "Guaranteed Live" concert. My name's Colin Campbell; I've been "lurking" since subscribing last fall. But now, I've got an offer to make. Thanks to a very, very cool brother (who mailed a copy from London) and a very, very efficient mail order service from Resurgence, I now have TWO copies of the infamous Forever Now + 4! I also have an extra copy of the "Love in a Peaceful World" CD5 Single with the much-improved "Old Skool" mix. If you think "LIAPW" is a bit too long, and a bit too slow, get your hands on this mix! You want either one? E-mail me; I'd rather trade than get cash. I'm looking for Mike Lindup's "The Spirit Is Free" CD5 Single, Level 42's "To Be With You Again" CD5 Single (with extended mix and live "Micro Kid") and "Take Care of Yourself" CD5 Single with Extended Mix, not single mix! But I'm open to any trade offers; e-mail me personally, we'll chat! As for the content of Forever Now + 4, I have to agree with those who say it ROCKS! Even though they took off my favorite song from the album, ("All Over You") and replaced it with a semi-cheesy ballad ("Time Will Heal" -- maybe it'll grow on me), I still love it. Great to get all the b-sides compiled on one CD, and the remixed sound of certain songs makes this well worth the investment. Resurgence has done such a nice job on this and on the Mike Lindup re-release, it makes me wonder; since they wouldn't put out "Forever Now + 4" and "Changes" to lose money, they must be making at least a small amount. And if this material can turn a profit for them, one wonders what that once-proposed album of Level 42 rarities would do for them! Surely, they could sell more copies of a mostly "new" rarities album, then trying to get people to buy the same album for a second time! (Although, that plan did seem to work with FN+4!) So I say we begin a campaign to get this album out! In a perfect world, it would be a compilation from the Polydor years of things that have never before been on CD. Primarily, while technically not a rarity, I would hope that they'd start with the three songs from "A Physical Presence" "omitted from the double album and cassette release so as to facilitate a single compact disc." These have got to get on to CD somewhere, somehow, someday!! Also, in this hypothetical perfect world, they'd license the "Wheel-spin warrior" mix of "Guaranteed," and get that on CD, too. A much better mix, it's just kind of scratchy on vinyl, and I no longer have a turntable! How about your suggestions? What Level 42 rarity would you love to see on CD? Thanks for listening! This is a great list; it's always a highlight of my "e-mail" time! Colin Campbell Bad Song Lyric of the Day: "Put a tree in your butt. Put me in your butt." My CD has My Hero after True Believers and before Kouyate. > I have the CD and the tape. On the tape I have My Hero is indeed the last song. And, another strange thing, in my CD-booklet there are no lyrics to My Hero! But the tape does have those lyrics, so no disaster there. I also listened to somebody else's tape of True Colours, and it had the 12"-version of Hot Water on it. After Hot Water, you could hear Mark say, "Bye bye everybody, bye bye..." or something like that. I wonder how many versions of True Colours there are! I would really like for everyone to see it; and if there's anybody out there who's a really peachy designer, feel free to whip something up! So lemme know about getting it out there, and I will! A whole 5 respondees todate - how disappointing ! And I thought everone loves a list, oh well. Maybe it's just decision making part that's too hard. I must confess that I didn't finalise my list until today - I'm such a hypocrite. Ciao, Cliff ------------------------------ Subject: Forever Now From: phydoux @ utw.com (Michael Monsen) Date: Tue, 30 Jan 96 19:43:41 EST Well, After a wait of about three weeks, I got Forever Now Resurgence from CDNow. At first I was a bit dissapointed--I was expecting something more like World Machine (I think I remember somebody on the list comparing it to World Machine). Anyway, after about two weeks of listening to it, I must say that I LOVE it. My thanks to all of you on the list that made me aware of Forever Now. If I hadn't found the homepage or the list I wouldn't have known! I would have missed out on all of this great music. I think that my favorites from this album are "Play Me" and "Model Friend." So far. I like 'em all, but these two really get to me. Anyway, thanks again! Now I have to get some of the older stuff. -- Michael Monsen | Brought to you by IBM's OS/2 Warp! phydoux @ utw.com (home) | phydoux @ byu.edu (school) | ------------------------------ Subject: Yet another twee message From: flanagan @ mwci.net (Pat Flanagan) Date: Tue, 30 Jan 1996 18:47:08 -0600 re: Twee is Swedish, no it's not, it's Dutch, etc. All this is well and fine, but in English, if something is "twee," the usage would be "oh, how twee," said derisively, as if looking down one's nose. Its primary meanings are a) childish, b) sickeningly sappy, and c) foppish, separately or in any combination. Trust me, I've done research. re: True Colours and euphoria upon listening to new Level songs TC is definitely one of their better efforts, and I, like others, particularly enjoy A Floating Life, Kansas City Milkman, and True Believers (fun bass line to play -- it kills your fingers!). Here's a little story: back in 1987, when I had very little Level stuff besides World Machine and RITF (on vinyl, no less), I happened upon some Polydor re-releases of earlier Level stuff at a record store. In one swoop, I got: Level 42, Pursuit of Accidents, Standing In The Light, and True Colours, all on vinyl except PofA on tape. I went home and listened to them in that order in one sitting. I was blown away, no other way to put it. Yes I have. Thanks to my level friends in Europe, Loz and Mike Brooks, I think my level 42 songlist is complete. Thanks goes to Loz, I just heard Breezer 1, 42, At this Great Distance, As years Go By, Learn to Say No, Freedom, for the first time-talk about some great songs - esp. 42 and As years Go By.
