Ah! Nick Park fans on the list! In case you didn't know, the Chevron gasoline ads showing in the USA (with the talking cars, speaking interview-style) are Nick Park creations as well. Also, Nick Park recently made the news because he left his suitcase with his Wallace & Gromit figures in a New York taxicab, where they rode around unnoticed for about 24 hours. The cab driver returned them to Nick Park safe and sound. Just to add my thoughts to the Oklahoma Levelfest debate... Mikey... if I could afford it, I'd be there. Sadly my credit card is still recovering from my U.S. trip this year! Best of luck - and here's hoping you get a good turnout. However - calling all Dutch levelheads (especially in Amsterdam)... I've suddenly found myself on Eurostar THIS Friday coming (8th) until late Sunday (10th)... meeting up with a few friends... meeting some colleagues... and I'll still have some spare time on my hands. If anybody has got time to say hi, I'd love to meet you. But mail me quickly! Any UK people catch 'Casualty' on BBC1 last night? There was a fabulous use of 'Leaving Me Now' - the drama tying in perfectly with the lyrics of the song on the radio. And finally, I bought a white label at a record fair during my lunch break yesterday. Well to be honest, I bought four white labels.. but this one is a bit special. It's just got 'A' on the a-side and 'B' on the b-side. Now, barring my 'Sun Goes Down' white label, Polydor tended to stick proper labels with 'Promotional Copy' onto the pre-releases. This 7 inch single is the released version of 'It's Over' with 'Physical Presence' on the flip side. NOW does anybody else have a white label of 'It's Over' - and is there any good reason my label is so different to the standard Polydor fare? I'm back now. More Bass Talk : NON BASSISTS BEWARE !! Will Greer wrote : > I don't think I've ever seen a Jaydee in a store. This is one thing that you nice Americans miss out on. In the UK we are now tripping over Jaydee Mark King models since Mark switched to those rather expensive Alembics. The problem in the UK is that all Jaydee owners wanted Candy Apple red and no other colour (color ??). I've never tried Tobias basses, I only ever see them in London, and it's rare that I'm there unless I'm doing a gig. Will, Jaydee basses are a pleasure to play, that's the reason I've always wanted one (in 1985 when I first started, I wanted a Jaydee becasue Mark played one, how times change). It was just that Pearl Pink color (colour ??), it looked lovely in the 'Live At Wembley' video, after that I was hooked. I won't get one now, I'm after another Chapman Stick next year. I'm getting more work on that than anything else. My brain is still stumbling around for an opinion on your theory for thickness of hands, boniness etc. Please don't forget that the body/neck wood makes a great deal of difference to the tone of an instrument. Also where you pluck the string will affect how it will sound. If you want a cool 'slap sound' Will, get hold of UZEB's 'World Tour '90', listen to "Wake Up Call", ouch ! It cost me a fortune to import that into the UK from Canada, about $70(!!!) but it was worth it. If you want a ripping funk tone, try Tony Levin's funkfingers, they are commercially available. I must get hold of a pair... Keep me posted with what you think. Happy to announce I have sold all my L42 goodies (#95 discs and some tapes etc)!!! Christophe Luker was the last lucky guy who absorped all my excess stock of L42 goodies. Thanks! Some stats on this massive sales project are (IF everybody will send me what the promised to): total cost of purchase = $593 (7", 12", CD5, CD, CDV, LD) total cost of p&p = $178 (incl. tapes, MDs etc) = total cost = $771 total of $ received = $467 total of $ not rcv yet = $302 = net loss = $2 (geee... :-/ Sometimes I had some loss on deals, but sometimes cool dudes gave a few extra bucks for all troubles, and together with a few bids I was able to cover most of the losses made in the first deals (around $30 losses). But I benefited somewhat from this giant sales project. I got some tapes and CDs from the trades. Guess that's worth $2! Thanks to all those guys involved. Now my collection of rarities is almost complete. --- On Saturday I saw a copy of On A Level for only $10, and I thought I saw someone on the Digest a few weeks ago who was looking for this CD. So if that person (or anyone else!) would like to contat me, do it fast: first come, first served! Details on this CD are: CD: 1993 GE (Spectrum/Karusell; 550010-2) 3:57 Running In The Family [single version] 5:45 Physical Presence [live dec 1986, wembley] 4:29 Take Care Of Yourself 4:25 Love Games [level best version] 4:10 Two Hearts Collide 4:47 Love Meeting Love (album mix edit) 5:03 True Believers 4:28 Children Say [remix] 5:34 Two Solitudes 3:46 Turn It On [mix unknown] 3:59 The Chinese Way [single version?] 5:45 Almost There 3:52 (Flying On The) Wings Of Love (u.s. mix - edit) 3:45 Coup D'Etat (version) [quicker fade] This CD doesn't seem to have 'bronzing problems' ;-) --- And if Rob Crossland does not reply to any of my mails within the next week, I'm afraid I'll have a copy of the FN 12" in excess... --- And could Dave O'Connell & Robert Kadel inform me whether they're still alive??? --- GreetZ Dirkies ------------------------------ Subject: Levelfest & help From: traceguy @ juno.com (Thomas R Harron) Date: Sun, 03 Nov 1996 23:35:50 EST Hello all. I have just finished contending with a long bout with food poisoning. So for about 4 days i have missed school and the digest. And to top that all off, my girlfriend dumped me. Lovely. :( what a mess this week has been!! Anyway, I want to say that I now understand that the levelfest is staying in OKC. I really have nothing to complain about considering i am not coordinating it. Forgive me if i angered anyone. If anyone would be interested in having a East coast levelfest , please contact me. maybe we can get something together. Also on a previous digest i saw that someone had the full version of the LAW video? Does anyone still have this? Contact me if you know anything.
