"kwam Level 42 na meer dan twee jaar stilte....." translates to English as "Level 42 came after two years of silence ...." If you want the whole lot translated, post it to the newslist, or send it directly to me. I'll give it a try. Some years ago there was a tribute concert to commemorate the death of John Lennon, I think it was 10 years after his death (I may be wrong) anyway, all the promotional material and TV hype for the concert sai that amongst many other top artists Level 42 would be appearing. The concert was that each artist played a Lennon/Beatles song and adverts said the Level 42 would be playing 'Help'. So I sat in front of my televisual aid, waiting through all the acts I wasnt bothered about, and to my dissmay Level 42 didn't appear. Does anyone know what happened to that concert, or why the guys werent there? Id love to know! Yes, the Japenese cover for the Early Tapes album is superb, a real must for collectors. Try to get the vinyl, Ive known Vinyl Vendors, an American mail order company to get quite a few Jap albums on Vinyl. Well, see you all soon..............................LOZ "I dont feel tired, but I feel a need to sleep." ------------------------------ Subject: Return to Forever/'Swedish' twee From: Nigel.Collier @ ncl.ac.uk (Nigel Collier) Date: Mon, 29 Jan 1996 13:16:19 +0000 RTF What's the best Return to Forever album to buy (bearing in mind I don't really like upright bass) [try "Romantic Warrior" -Eric] TWEE >" kwam Level 42 na meer dan twee jaar stilte....." Looks like Dutch to me (did a bit at University). Twee is pronounced 'tvay' and the sentence runs like this - "...? Level 42 no more than 2 years ?...". Another possible meaning for "Twee" - "the unit used to measure the tensile strength of party tableware (plastic cutlery and paper plates)". And, on a similar vein, how about "Wales - a unit used to measure the land area of a)iceflows b)Australian farms c)tropical rainforest (whenever one of these 3 things are mentioned on the news, the area they measure is always compared relatively to the size of Wales) (for Brit readers: A twee could also be a thing Jonathon Ross used to climb as a child) Stay cool you crazy kids, Nigel Robin Smith for President and eyes down for a full house. http://www.ncl.ac.uk/~nnac ------------------------------ Subject: Level42 Digest V96 #29 From: "Jay Tracy" Date: Mon, 29 Jan 1996 06:57:45 -0500 (EST) Subject: 42 Level Reasons From: Greg.Schilling @ smtpgate.lexis-nexis.com (Schilling, Greg L.) > BTW, first time hearing True Colours. Where any of these 2 tunes ever performed live ? Not that I know of > course. Obviously I will be corrected also. "Twee" is dutch and it means 'two'. "Kwam Level 42 na meer dan twee jaar stilte" means 'after more than two years of silence Level 42 came...' with some new music, I would say! I think that this is about the -at the time- new Guaranteed album. By the way, has anyone ever heard of "The Official Bootleg recorded by Dave Dixon"? I have the cd-single of "My Father's Shoes" and on that there are 2 tracks (live) from that bootleg. Where can I get it? (Is it available??) The 2 sinlges of MFS are both great! The interview on the red one is a lot of fun - especially when Mark is imitating a malfunctioning cd-player; and "As Years Go By" on the grey one is a great song!! Anyone else think 'A Floating Life' > ranks among their best work? I have always loved that song. I also really like the overall Production on this album. Very heavy in the low-end. I also *really* like Kouyate and Hours by the Window (very, very sad song). I just peered at the Discography and noticed that it shows My Hero as the last song. My CD has My Hero after True Believers and before Kouyate. ------------------------------ Subject: FIRST Time From: ANDY42 @ aol.com Date: Mon, 29 Jan 1996 22:48:53 -0500 You mentioned that it's your first time listening to the True Colours album. I was wondering if I was the only person here who has experienced an almost euphoric rush when I heard some of Level 42's songs for the first time. It's like I knew I had hit something good. I rarely have that sort of rush with other bands. Unfortunately, when the song gets played out, the feeling goes away. Let's convince Mark and Mike to make some new stuff. BTW... I know I asked before - but, Any Christopher Cross fans here? ------------------------------ Subject: Re: 42 Level reasons From: ANDY42 @ aol.com Date: Mon, 29 Jan 1996 22:45:11 -0500 I agree, "A floating life" is one of my favorites - as is Kansas city M.M., Hours by the window, and some others from T.C. But, I feel that some of these songs are too ecclectic to listen to on a daily basis. I could probably listen to "World Machine" every day due to it's more commercial sound... but some of the best L42 albums including T.C. and Staring at the sun I will only listen to once in a while. interesting.
