I'm no expert lip-reader, but if you watch carefully you'll see that he's saying "We're only human after all". To re-iterate someone else's question from an earlier digest, does anyone know who the kid in the "Love Games" video is? It's been bugging me as well. Paul. ------------------------------ Subject: Changes, L42 tablature From: lolita @ interserv.com Date: Thu, 24 Oct 1996 06:16:10 -0700 Track 10 on Mike Lindup's Resurgence album is called Jung. The difference between the two releases is that the earlier one doesn't have the Fallen Angel demo, and Jung is properly credited. Everything else is the same. About the Laurence thing.... I know a woman with that name, but her name is spelled Laurance, with an a. I think it is a French thing to do that, because my ex-boyfriend's mom is named Gilberte (traditionally a man's name in English), and she's French. So Dirkies, you aren't crazy. For anyone who cares, my bass playing is coming along; I've got Children Say down, but can't play it as fast. Right now I'm working on Dune Tune and trying to figure out the most convenient fingerings. BTW, does anyone have any tab for the group? I don't wan't the music - I can read music, but I have a fantastic ear, so I don't really need the notes given to me. I just want the best fret positions. Anyway, any help would be appreciated. Lolita ------------------------------ Subject: Resurgence 4ever Now From: Rob Kadel Organization: Emory University Date: Thu, 24 Oct 1996 11:20:24 +0000 Well, I thought I'd get in my $.02 on the Resurgence release of Forever Now. I like it. There are definitely pros and cons, though. On the con side, I totally agree with Winston that cutting "Tired of Waiting" was a big mistake. And on those occasions when I'm just looking for a bass thumping song, I miss having "All Over You" as well. On the pro side, yes, the artwork and photos are much better than the RCA release. Furthermore, I don't know why more people haven't commented on "Play Me." I LOVE that song. Really takes them back into the funk genre, while giving some excellent lyrics. Maybe I'm biased, too, because the song reminds me of a certain someone. :) Anyway, I'd give Resurgence a thmubs up, but not way up (Ebert) since they cut "Tired of Waiting." -Rob -- Rob Kadel Department of Sociology Emory University Atlanta, GA 30322 (404)727-7510 http://userwww.service.emory.edu/~rkadel/ ------------------------------ Subject: AYGB From: Marc_Dupuis @ MADISONUSA.CCMAIL.CompuServe.COM Date: 24 Oct 96 12:35:39 EDT I just gave AYGB a listen again after a few weeks away and I'm always stunned by the last 3 tracks - it feels like brand new L42 music every time - I just love it! I was trying to work out while listening to it but found it impossible because the music kept grabbing my attention and I'd find that I was just sitting in a trance getting into this stuff. I programmed my player to play it backwards (from that bizarre track 12 - who's the comedian? ;) and just love the way that it gives a strange walk back from the era that I'm most familiar with back to their roots. Some things that popped into my head: - Track 11 AYGB: To me the drums sound more like Phil than Gary - the sounds, the style of fills, I actually went and checked the liner notes for the date - it has to be Gary. It's totally different than the "A-side" My Father's Shoes in all respects. - Track 10 ATGD: A true Stonker - same thing here, except NOW the playing sounds like Gary, just the sound of the kit is Philesque. Great sampled guitar! - Track 9 Now this sounds like all Gary. So it can't be just the re-EQing that psyched me. Give it a listen from this perspective - it's weird. Hey WINMAN - did you get my package? -Marc ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Bad News on Tour From: Rob Crossland <100535.3535 @ CompuServe.COM> Date: 24 Oct 96 12:43:37 EDT Like right on man, Bad News are evil man ------------------------------ Subject: subject? ...uh... From: mm95 @ worldonline.nl (Mighty Maomoondog) Date: Thu, 24 Oct 96 18:23:14 GMT Hey y'all, about FN <--> FN, I think it's really too bad that the RCA release doesn't contain lyrics, and I really like all the extra tracks from the Resurgence release. But then again, I also really like 'tired of waiting' and 'all over you'.... Hey John, what item is this and (now the 10.000 dollar question...) WHO IS THE ARTIST?! I hadn't heard about that show in Amsterdam, (hey, I might even go!) but I can sure look around in record stores here in Holland for you. About that strange recurring dream (DREAM CRAZY!), I suddenly thought of the song 'recurring dream' by Terence Trent d'Arby, does anybody know this song? > Now, it's entirely possible someone tipped off the publisher, or it's > possible that someone just went looking. I don't mean to push a > panic button here, but the last thing any of us need is a lawsuit, true? I couldn't agree more. As much as we are probably proud of doing these things (which we should be, especially those of us who have donated a track or done some burning), we shouldn't brag about it too much, because you never know who might do what with the info. But then again, if anybody was ever in trouble because of one of the Digest projects, he or she could always say, "I don't remember I don't recall I have no memory of anything at all" !!!! ;-) (c) 1980 Peter Gabriel The Mighty Maomoondog MM95 @ WorldOnline.NL ------------------------------ Subject: Changes! If people start calling me Larry, then I forward we call Pat, Cow Pat, or Patricia (I hate Larry). At work I get Florence, Clarence, but most people call me Loz. How did RES get to release FN. Easy, part of the deal that absolved the three album RCA deal. RCA didnt want to go on and Technically Level 42 could have made RCA follow the contract and released another studio album. Hence they had the upper hand on RCA, because RCA didnt want them. Big mistake by RCA, quality bands like Level 42 dont come along every week. From: Zaphod Beeblebrox Organization: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Inc. Date: Thu, 24 Oct 1996 21:48:37 -0500 Well, after a shatteringly stressful two weeks, I'm back into the land of the living (and email returning- if you've sent me something recently, I'll be responding shortly). First, Level Roundup! Wow! What a frood bunch of Levelfans we have in this state (and OK). Once again a big thanks to Tucker for putting us up, and liquoring us to no end! :) Big round of applause to Mikey42 for the tunez, and Eric for showing up for the largest Levelfest in history (anyone want to show us up?)! I really enjoyed getting to put faces to the email addresses; go ahead and count me in for the next one! BTW- Amy (ma petite compaine), has recovered nicely from the experience. Her jaw dropped when we arrived home, and the only CD I took with me to work was Forever Now (Resurgence)! Hey, I like the guys, what else can I say! ;) Now, various As Years Go By and CD-R questions from the last week. . . John had this to ask. . . > 1. How many CD-R funds are there? There's only one CD-R fund. Richard Smith has been coordinating the collections on the other side of the pond to help save $$ to our English friends. > 2. Where should the donation have been sent? In the UK, to Richard. Anywhere else, to Matthew Blackmon in Texas. > 3. Does a donation get you the AYGB disc? No. The donation was to help purchase the burning machine so that we could have a reliable copying facility for anyone who wants the album. > 4. If not, how can I get the AYGB disc? The albums are being distributed at cost, which is currently: $11 in the US $11 in Canada $14 in Mexico/ South America $14 in Europe $15 everywhere else Write to me , and I'll get your name on the list, as well as give you my address. > 5. When the new live/remix/rare discs are ready, where can we get them, etc. From the same place. Since I had been purchasing bulk discs in the first place, it seemed appropriate to have me burning them as well. Then, Walter Franken added this. . . > Does the title of our CD-R "As years go by" reflect the time we have to > wait till the CD drops in my mailbox?? That's a great idea! Do you mind if I add that to the liner notes? ;) > Hey guys, wake up!! I'm still waiting for the CD. What's going on?? > Sorry for this outbreak, but I've paid the bucks months ago, and it > seems to take forever to get those CD's shipped. I'm getting tired of > waiting (what's in a phrase...) so please explain the status. Walter (and everyone else on the waiting list for AYGB), we're terribly sorry that there's been such a delay in getting those to you. Jeremy's working as quickly as he can to get those out. I will have those puppies in the mail the day after I receive them (I have the envelopes ready and all!). Once again, please bear with us while we pull our hair out in unison! And, finally, Eric Hansen added. . . > [I believe that Mr. Zaphod Beeblebrox has purchased the new CDR machine > for this, but has had several defective units, and is waiting on a > replacement... is this [about] correct? -Eric] I have been pulling teeth with two different manufacturers for the last month or so now. The first machine put a click at the begining of every track. The second machine wouldn't write a large (>30M) file, so it, too, went back. The current machine may work, if the SCSI card decides to come and play in the near future. (Argh) It will be Monday before I get a chance to talk to HP, but I'll know then how long this will take! Whew! That was a lot of writing, but I think I've covered it all. If anyone has questions, comments, or cool jokes, feel free to write! Love, laughter, and lollipops! Anyway at the 2:10 point of the song when Mark sings " a dream so real *beep* a new game to play. As I lay in bed with my headphones on I thought it to be the phone ringing. So I played the song again becaus I now love this song, I heard it again. I hope this is not me coming down with a case of tinnitus or some other otoacoustic emission (I am a Speech and Hearing major at Arizona State). If anyone with real high tech equipment could listen to this and see if they discover this "phantom" beep. This is not to be confused with the phantom whistler on the Physical Presence vol I and II album. I hope that someone can come up with an explanation. Also if this issue has been brought up befor on the digest please disregard my ignorance since I am fairly new around here and feel intimidated by those who are bigger fans of L42 then I ever could hope to be. Level 42 is the greates band that I have ever listened to and I see the fans follow in the tradition of greatness. I'm only human after all, Ronn Torrens
