From: RolfieV @ aol.com Date: Sat, 27 Jan 1996 13:11:35 -0500 Hi everyone, I normally wouldn't mention this but....I was watching one of the tapes that I got from BobC (Tape #1) and there, right before my eyes (In Swedish I think), I saw this, " kwam Level 42 na meer dan twee jaar stilte....." "Whoa," I thought. I quickly went back through the tape and looked for the interviews that had the Swedish subtitles to see if the word "twee" appeared again. I thought, " I'm really onto something." "There!" I saw it again. Mike was saying something about them not falling into the Rock & Roll trap and that they all got along quite nicley and didn't leave concerts seperately. Then Mark chipped in and said, " we can't afford the two limo's." In Swedish under it was "..twee auto's." Oh....what a let down. It means "two" in Swedish. Angel wrote: >First of all, my wonderful boyfriend, Kevin, figured out that the >bassline in the intro and mid verse sections of "Past Lives" is the >same as the beginning groove to Mark's bass solo on the >"A Physical Presence" CD. You're talking about the solo before "Love Games" right? I don't have a copy of FN (So I may be typing blind here) but the majority of that solo is based on riffs from "Dune Tune" and "The Essential." Maybe Mark decided to put words to those riffs and wrote "Past Lives" If that's the case, this song may hold new meaning given it's title. But again, that would depend on the lyrics which I don't know either. Take Care, Rolf "This isn't my real thumb. It's one I taped earlier." Mark King ------------------------------ Subject: Wally, The Chinese Way, FN+4 From: lolita @ interserv.com Date: Sat, 27 Jan 1996 10:41:23 -0800 From: djames @ statsci.com (Daniel James) Date: Fri, 26 Jan 1996 11:03:43 -0800 (PST) The only album I have of Wally's is Words of a Mountain, which is very mellow (actually I like it quite a bit, although I think I may have lost it somewhere). Are his other albums quite a bit different from this one? I don't own Words of a Mountain, but I know Echoes and Chief Inspector, and those two are somewhat mellow without being as New Ageish as WOAM. Anyone who owns the Chief Inspector EP: wouldn't you agree that the song Novela das Nove sounds very similar to the song World Machine? Not the melody line, but the instrumentation. Angel - Thanks for agreeing with me about Changes (the song). One thing though - Life Will Never Be the Same is not an instrumental. The singing and lyrics are actually quite beautiful. Take another listen when you get a chance. Eric Morson - FYI: People say that Forever Now is plus 4 and not plus 6 because many of us have the Japanese import version, and that version _includes_ Past Lives and Learn to Say No. Not a big deal, but now you know. Oh yeah: Jay Tracy got the Pursuit of Accidents CD for me (thanks, dude) a few weeks ago and, to my horror, I saw that there were _two_ versions of The Chinese Way [Pat, you can appreciate this]. I still hate that song; I don't care what anyone says, and seeing two versions on the same album was a big shock. [I'm not trying to start a new thread, I'm merely expressing my opinion.] Anyone who lives in the Bay Area of California, I was just there last week and there is a record store on Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley that has the new Forever Now (about 5 copies) for $15.99. I don't remember the name of the store, but it is the biggest one around, and anyone who lives there would know which store I'm talking about. The cover of the album _does_ look cheesy, BTW. It reminds me of something that you would order from K-Tel off the tellie. Lolita ------------------------------ Subject: In Search Of... From: John Edward Martin Shuford Date: Sat, 27 Jan 1996 03:37:14 -0800 (PST) Okay, I've seen this mentioned a few times here and there, but I was wondering if anyone would be willing to run off a copy of "Can't Walk You Home" for me? I've a rather nice-sized collection of L42 and related stuff that I would be willing to swap on tape in exchange for this one song (what a deal, huh?). Aside from those unconfirmed early songs that Loz mentions now and again, and any material that is left locked up in Mark's studio or the Polydor and RCA vaults, I think I have a copy of every song L42 has released (yes, even those hard to come by b-sides from every album, ever). I also have some more difficult to find things like Mark's guest appearances with Midge Ure (The Gift, Answers To Nothing) on CD, Nik Kershaw (on vinyl), M's Official Secrets Act (predates L42 and features Mark, Phil, and Wally), and Talbot/White United States of Mind (with Phil and Danny Blume). Finally, I have a wide range of remixes, including: Wings Of Love, Love Games, The Sun Goes Down, The Chinese Way, You Can't Blame Louis, Out of Sight, Standing in the Light, Micro Kid, The Chant Has Begun, Hot Water, Something About You, World Machine, I Sleep On My Heart, Coup D' Etat, Lessons In Love, Children Say, Running in the Family, To Be With You Again, It's Over, Heaven In My Hands, Tracie, Take A Look, To Be With You Again, Take Care Of Yourself, Guaranteed, Overtime, Forever Now, Learn To Say No, All Over You, Love In A Peaceful World, and perhaps some others. Most of these I have multiple versions of. Finally, I have some harder-to-come by live material, at least for us Yanks (like the Overtime Live EP) and lots of vid (again, for a Yank--including their performance in "The Fantasist"). The point was not to show off. Sorry if it reads that way. The point is that I am DESPERATE for Can't Walk You Home. If there is something you are desperate for in return (whether I mentioned it here or not), contact me if you are in a position to swap (because I may still have it even if it was not mentioned). Thanks in advance. ------------------------------ Subject: T-shirts From: ZNilsson @ handel.jlc.net (Zak Nilsson) Date: Sat, 27 Jan 1996 14:13:48 -0500 Hi there; I'm currently scanning a bunch o' artwork for the T-shirt design, which I hope to work on tonight and tomorrow. Hopefully by Monday I'll have some designs to upload somewhere for people to look at. I'm kind of going for a collage of artwork on the front and a big logo on the back. I had the logo from RITF in mind - that seems to be the most definitive logo for L42. I'll let you know how it all works out, and BTW, I'm open to suggestions! In my newest issue of Bass Player magazine, they say John is marketing his first solo effort, Feelings Are Good And Other Lies, over the internet. For more info on the album, send e-mail to JTSings2U @ aol.com. For sound clips; www.planetearth.org. I could also send you a copy of the article (It's short, 3 para.) if you want. -Rolf ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V96 #27 From: flanagan @ mwci.net (Pat Flanagan) Date: Sat, 27 Jan 1996 13:52:33 -0600 >re: Chinese Way...Do we know that the glitch has been >cleaned up on "The Remixes"? Pat, you're a GOD. Hey, I Don't Want To Be A Hero, ok Vince? :D (sorry, that was a pretty weak joke, I know.) Actually, I am a God, a Greek God, to be precise. I am Pat, the God of 80's British pop groups, bow before me. Got any other JHJ besides their first album, Vince? I stumbled across a JHJ "Greatest Hits" import compilation at Blockbuster Music, but didn't want to pay $30 for it. I wasn't even aware that they had more than the one album. Last I heard, the singer made the David Lee Roth's classic "stupid career move" (patent pending) and left the group for a solo career. Anyway, Vince, email me about it.
