Loz, if you've seen it at Virgin in England then maybe I could order it from Virgin in Burbank, CA. USA. Let me know if you know they have it there. Thanks. Also, Loz, what is "Life Will Never Be the Same"? Is there a song by them that I don't know about???????? What's the world coming to? Zak, I couldn't get an e-mail through to you for some reason so here's my message regarding your T shirts/stickers proposal: Yes, a thousand times yes. That all sounds like a swell idea Zak. There's been so much deliberating about T shirts etc we need a go-getting firebrand like you to just get on and do it instead of talking about it. You can count me definitely 'in' for both T shirt and stickers - I'm not too bothered about the design but I think you should mention the digest or homepage in some way. Oh yeah, I personally hate black shirts so could we have a non-black option? Money is no object to us well-healed, jazz funk, generation X type twenty somethings. Good luck mate Twee I haven't checked the dictionary but I understood 'twee' to mean something that is sickeningly 'cute' or homely. May I suggest an alternative meaning for the word twee - "the distance you have to walk between where you were standing at the front of a bus queue and where the door of the bus actually stops". Some of us have already sent nominations, but I thought it might be fun to get as many as possible involved and compile the results - it may prove interesting ! A similar thing has just been done in the Tears For Fears mailing group, and if nothing else it provided a good excuse to drag out the albums, singles, CDs, whatever for another listen. To keep it simple, just mail me with your: (A) top 10 L42 songs (ranked 1 to 10) e.g. 1) 43 2) Lying Still 3) Man 4) Pursuit of Accidents 5) Out of Sight, Out of Mind 6) The Machine Stops 7) 88 8) Sandstorm (live versions) 9) True Believers 10)Dream Crazy (B)Top 5 L42 albums (ranked 1 to 5) e.g. 1) Level 42 2) Forever Now 3) World Machine 4) True Colors 5) Standing In The Light My email address is ncc1701d @ iaccess.com.au (Please DON'T email the mailing list). To keep the L42 flavour of things, the closing date is (nominally) day 42 of this year (i.e. 11 Feb). So, avagoyamug, and send me your favs - I'll keep everyone updated on the progress. Because it hasn't been released in NTSC format in the US, only in Japan -- hence the high price for a factory tape. Very few US shops carry PAL-format tapes, and by the time you order one from overseas and have it format- converted so you can watch it (consequently downgrading the quality) you're often better off just spending a few extra dollars for a Japanese copy. On a better note I got a copy of thee video for Are You Hearing (What I Hear)? ths morning. If you thought Micro Kid was poor you should check thiis video out, its hilariious. In fact its just like Micro Kid but without and of the graphics. Its really quite amusing and the hairstyles are awful. I havee concluded with some certainty that being as the 7" Love Games white flex single says the words "Breaker" all over it followed by the words 'strong malt lager' that this is the origin of the record. I am not sayiing that t wasn't also giiven aaway with Melody Maker, but even the ones from melody maker say Breaker lager on them! I have to go, this keyboard is awful!!!! Just wanted to respond to a message from Kevin O'Brien, who asked about the "Can't Walk You Home" single. I found it about the same time as you did, actually, on a cassette titled "Lessons in Love" (not the same as the vinyl version...). It had remixes of Lessons, World Machine, and the singles "I Sleep on my Heart", "Can't Walk..." and "Dream Crazy". I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen it on CD... Until next time! This isn't a money-making venture for me, but I do charge a token amount to cover the disks, postage, and a bit of the time I put in. It's worth it, just ask anyone who has it (right guys?). The pictures must be in some special format that the screen saver engine uses eh? I was kind of hoping to be able to extract the pictures and use them with After Dark (I have a Macintosh). Oh well, I've installed it onto SoftWindows, and I'm thinking I may be able to do screen captures, and convert them to Mac Pict's. There are a couple of real gem's in there (like the Promo shots, and the Re-Release shot of the cover of Influences). Have been since before I new it, a true Level 42 fan since the first album. I am a native of Toronto, and yes I saw both Level 42 concerts here. One of my favourite tracks is from World Machine, "I Sleep On My Heart." Funny thing about this song it doesn't appear on later releases of the same cd. I think Dream Crazy was another tune that is missing from later releases of the same cd. The cd I have is Polydor catalogue 827 487-2. Any insights regarding these tracks? Regards Russell Brewes rbrewes ------------------------------ Subject: Top of the Pops From: Nigel.Collier @ ncl.ac.uk (Nigel Collier) Date: Thu, 25 Jan 1996 09:28:34 +0000 Our lads were on TV again last night, on an old rerun of 'Top of the Pops'. They were doing Chinese Way with a group of Chinese? dancers behind them waving streamers around, it was excellent. Mark wore a Chinese-ish top covered in zips, the neck of the shirt being formed by a massive open zip, Mike had quite a good afro and that horrible 'tash that he had back then, he was wearing one of those African type tops with the square neck. Mark was dreadful at miming with his bass and kept missing notes. All of them looked way too thin - (I know boon always did, but Mark did go through a healthier 'stocky' phase). Right after L42 on the show came 'The Belle-Stars' with 'Sign of the Times' and the DJ presenter came up with a classic, early 80's line to introduce them..."...and just watch the lasers in this video!!!" - I could imagine people at home back then thinking, "wow, a video with lasers? This song has gotta be good". Robin Smith for President and eyes down for a full house. http://www.ncl.ac.uk/~nnac
