TSonoi @ aol.com ------------------------------ Subject: Screen Saver & t-shirt From: rojas @ rice.edu (Roland Edgar Rojas) Date: Mon, 22 Jan 1996 08:26:04 -0600 (CST) I'm new to the mailing list and I would also like a Level-42 screen saver. I'd also like to find out where I can get a Staring at the Sun t-shirt like the ones that crew is wearing in Fait Accompli as they are moving the bands gear. They have the art that appears on the Staring at the Sun tape cover. ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V96 #22 From: ZNilsson @ handel.jlc.net (Zak Nilsson) Date: Mon, 22 Jan 1996 09:32:50 -0500 >3) Zak, in my humble opinion, the Level 42 videos are mostly clunkers. Still, I'd like to get a copy of one of the video collections (I also want the live tapes - different purchase there), simply because like I said, I missed them all and I wanna catch up a bit. Eventually I want it all, but I still think I'm going to get the videos. I appreciate your opinion, though; it's just that I'm kind of a sucker for music videos (I think that stems from my lack of MTV in the 80s.) :) Zak ------------------------------ Subject: The new page is coming! The new page is coming! From: atburns Date: Mon, 22 Jan 1996 06:18:30 -0800 At the beginning of this March, there will be a totally new web page dedicated solely to Level 42 starting up. There are many areas planned and it will be an extension of, not a competitor to, the fine pages that are up and running. I am looking for people who would like to get in on the action and blow the socks off of everyone out there. Further details will be out soon but I can tell you the following: This website will be geared to all the major browsers; with the functionality and content of each being tailored to meet their differences: Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0 (3.0 is in alpha so it's not certain right now) Netscape Navigator 2.0 HotJava (yes there will be some applets running if they're compatible) Mosaic 2.0 (it is very differnt!) and others depending on demand This site will be full colour, full motion, full sound ready and you can count on it being a step ahead. PS I would like to collaborate with worldmachine.com to integrate their content and links into this site. Are you interested? Anthony ------------------------------ Subject: It's Loz From: Laurence Green Date: Mon, 22 Jan 1996 13:23:01 PST Hi everyone. Firstly I must say that my copy of 'On A Level' turnes bronze and then corroded and also gave off toxic fumes that killed my hamster. But when I took it out of the 'Sulphuric acid' I was keeping it in it was fine! Does anyone know where I went wrong. My girlfriend says I should use another kind of acid, or even just put my CD's back in their cases and put them in a cupboard instead of in acid. I must say that the entire reason of the RES version of Forever Now is not financially motivated. Resurgence are a small company, most people who work in high street record stores have never heard of them. I think you should lay off them, they dont have the money to use computer etc etc to make fancy covers. And lets face it, if FN-2+6 hadnt been released we would have never 'Time Will Heal' and the new version of 'Billys Gone'. Lazlo said something about catalogueing the differences between remixes, unfortunatly this would be impossible as some mixes seem identical, but when timed are clearly different. EG Heart On The Line is three seconds longer than Heart On The Line (skeletal) but finding the three seconds difference is impossible. The same occurs with Sandstorm from the Early Tapes, and Sandstorm LPcut from Elite dazz 4. The best thing to do is call each mix by the name it is given followed by its time, unless it times exactly the same as a mix with a different name, in this case call the mix after the one on the most prominent item. ie on CDV Leaving Me Now call World Machine USmix, World Machine (Shep pettibone remix) because the same mix appeared on an album 'The Platinum edition'. I am currently timing all song and mixes by the group, but It will take some time. I also have calculate the ratio between 45, 33.33333, CD and Tape as Im sure the different devices will not play at exactly the same time. This makes the determination of mix lengths very difficult. This being the case I think we should accept that it is going to be an uphill struggle to accuratly determine whether or not some mixes that seem the same are different! As for you Pat, are you sure I said 'deep in fascination', I cant honestly believe I said that. Maybe it was a Freudian slip because I was thinking about tha album 'Level 42'. Actually come to think of it we have had a lot of posts saying 'Pat your great', 'how do I get hold of the SUPERB screen saver pat' , 'well its easy, you send a cheque to me Pat Flannagan'. I DETECT FOUL PLAY:-) On the other hand Pat's Screen Saver is excellent, I use it all the time, in fact sometimes I sit children in front of it and it keeps them amused for ooooooh upwards of 44 minutes. (thats $10 you owe me Pat, thats what you said in the agreement). Right on another of Pat's question, 'the full title of the Chant Has Begun remix', well the full title quite unbelievably is 'The Chant Has Begun' Powermix (ill bread but with jam). Now some of you may think I am being stupid, but that is what it says on the 12", so there. Next question is, why pay $99 dollars for Guaranteed Live when you can get it on Video for #10 from Virgin or anywhere? Guess what? I go to a quiz every Sunday night at a local public house. Its a music quiz. I could hardly believe my ears when question 25 came on, and would you believe it, it was 'Something About You' and the question was 'Name The Year' ho ho ho that was a breeze, I couldnt believe my luck. I memorised years chart positions and release dates years ago! (1985) Right, I know I said I would be phoning Crock, but he was out on Friday. I will try today 'PROMISE'. My copy >of the Love Games >white breaker flexi, says the words Strong Malt Lager >round the middle of the disc The only beer I'm aware of in Britain which is marketed as/calls itself a "Strong Malt Lager" is "Breaker" - I haven't seen the stuff for ages (it came in a silver/gold can with turquoise waves 'breaking' over it) so maybe it came and went (like Tuborg or Lamot) - maybe it was a promoter's play on words issuing a white "breaker" flexi in conjunction with "breaker" lager (or is there weird tie in with Level 42 and strong lager back in the early 80s?) Soul Train (from Lolita) >In answer to your live Level 42 performance question, they were on >Saturday Night Live back in >the mid 80's ('86 I think). They should've >been on Soul Train; they would have been a great hit >there. Soul Train was one of THE best (certainly the best for music) shows on TV at that time, the crowning glory for me must have been "I wonder if I take you home" by the VERY sexy Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam featuring Full Force - (I found Lisa Lisa sexy, not the members of Cult Jam or Full Force - though Full Force seemed to think they were sexy). That video (along with Chaka's "I feel for you" with her sultry sidelong glances) gave me the not-unpleasant tingling sensations normally accociated with being a young teenager. Level 42 would have been an absolute smash on Soul Train I'm sure. BTW was strapping your bass high up on your chest a la Mark King THE thing to do in the 80's? Last night on an old repeat of Top Of The Pops on UK Gold, the bassist for Hugh & Cry had the highest strung bass I've ever seen - somewhere just below his chin which made playing it extremely difficult. The White Funky Yes, that old chestnut. If anybody knows where to get hold of a copy of the White Funky I'd be EXTREMELY grateful if they could pick one up for me - just let me know and I'll send you the cash.
