From: pfpd @ pobox.com (Pat Flanagan) Date: Sat, 29 Jun 1996 16:11:58 -0400 (EDT) There has been some discussion as to who would play Mike 'n Mark in a movie. Mike is without a doubt played by Pete Sampras, but I say NAY to Klaus Kinski for Mark. Why? Well, first of all, Kinski's dead, which may put him out of the running. But, primarily, I've found a better candidate. I've set up a special super-secret web page just for all of you to see at http://www.pobox.com/~pfpd/images/whatever.shtml (Be sure to type the "shtml" instead of "html" -- I put an invisible counter in there, so I can see how many of you actually looked at this page, for my own enjoyment). A few warnings before you go to this page: A) It's extremely "quick & dirty" (e.g., I didn't even set a background color -- how lazy) B) It uses a Netscape-compliant table. C) There are four graphics (two of Mark, and two of my super-secret acting pick) which average around 40k each, so those of you with slow connections may want to get some grapes while it's loading. (Speaking of grapes, a dumb joke is also on the page, so you have something to read while the graphics load.) Enjoy, your comments are welcome. Specially, the ones that he sings. There's nothing wrong with Mark's performance in singing but, the songs 'Silence', 'Set me up', 'It's not the same for us', and others, makes me think that all Mike's songs are very special. Please, don't forget that I was just wondering... Just one more thing; anyone knows who wrote 'My hero'?... Just one more last thing; I would like to know DJRJ's opinion about Carlinhos Brown. If someone wants to know mine, he's just very great! That's all!! Cassiano. ------------------------------ Subject: Monkey Mind Time Again . . . From: TTrudell @ aol.com Date: Sat, 29 Jun 1996 17:15:28 -0400 Just a sampling from my fevered brain . . . 1) I received the legendary "B sides CD" produced by John Venzon, and have played it enough to digest it, I think. TRULY EXCELLENT! It favors the early years, and I have come to really appreciate the rarities. 2) From this digest I've gotten a cool t-shirt and a cool CD. Could the other digests be as hip as we? I think not. L42 types probably have their s**t together more than the average. 3) *hi*! 4) Speaking of the B sides CD: Did you ever have a thought that almost completely ruined your enjoyment of something? Be warned, for the following just may forever destroy your appreciation of the first song on the B sides CD, the instrumental of "Love Meeting Love" You know how it loops through the chord changes seemingly forever? "Dum, duh duh, da diddi-diddi-diddi-diddi- dum" It goes on far too long, and I imagine it as the soundtrack from a disgusting porno movie scene where two people are seen copulating endlessly from unimaginative camera positions. Yeah, I can't enjoy that song anymore . . . ;) 5) This just in: the Chinese Way lyrics still suck. 6) Someone mentioned trying to appreciate Forever Now while getting drunk . . . a while back I regaled the digest with my lurid tale of a Forever Now tequila-popping underwear-abandoning party I enjoyed last winter. If you need to be drunk to appreciate Forever Now, A) What's your problem? and B) Just don't try it from your car stereo. 7) Does anyone know anything about a musician named William Orbit? 8) I really like Mark's scat singing. By the way, isn't "scat" what lions leave? 9)Mark's Influences Cover . . . my copy has him in Levi jacket and white pants crouched near the base of a tree as he looks wistfully into the great American West. Perhaps he's contemplating the triumphs and tragedies of Manifest Destiny. No, he's probably trying to look cool so he can get laid. 10) I've just read what I've written and it's clear: I need help. Have a cool week y'all -TT ------------------------------ Subject: I've got it too! From: lonestar @ redshift.com Date: Sat, 29 Jun 1996 13:51:31 -0700 Hi all, Just a quick response: [Carl, you're the only other person I've ever heard of (besides me) that's got the US release of Influences with that cover! Anyone else here have one?!?! -Eric] Guess what, I DO TOO!!! :) Happy me! - Jerry ------------------------------ Subject: B-Sides if you want 'em, and hello From: daum @ aludra.usc.edu (Evan Daum) Date: Sun, 30 Jun 1996 01:32:26 -0400 Hello all, I don't think I ever did a formal introduction of myself to you guys, but it's been so long I think I won't bore you with the details. In a nutshell, the person who you know as FabFriday @ aol.com got me into Level 42 when we were in high school in northern NJ, and I've been a Levelhead ever since. Anyway, if anyone wants B-Side CDs, I can make 'em. Just send me some cash (I guess $10 is enough, I can't remember what the other guys were charging, if it was less, I apoligize). My address is: Evan Daum 510 S. Burnside Ave. Apt. 12-B Los Angeles, CA 90036 My favorite song is Love Games, followed in a close second by Good Man in a Storm. I really dislike Chinese Way, Hot Water, and The Chant will Never End (whoops, I mean, "Has Begun"). The new live album is quite good, although Gary doesn't play the hi-hat part correctly on Love Games. Anyway, just thought I'd make myself known, and if anyone needs discs, just let me know. I think the people who have made them so far could probably use some help to pick up the stragglers. Oh well, back to lurking. Take care all. -Evan Who's got a nice baloon there?"
