And someone shouts the answer from the crowd, which someone repeats laughingly off-mic. Mark then says "it the trousers" and then "it's Crockford". But what is the original comment made ? Sorry if this is a FAQ, but I want to know ! Cheers, Steve ------------------------------ Subject: Reviews,Racing From: "M. Robins" Organization: the University of Greenwich Date: Fri, 7 Jun 1996 13:44:56 GMT Hi all, I've just read the digest with the less than complimentary Q magazine review. I read the magazine myself a couple of days ago, and couldn't agree more. Us L42 fans have to put up with an awful lot of journalistic crap. In particular, Teletext on Channel 4 ( P621-4, sorry if you don't know what I'm talking about ) should be arrested for some of the things they've said. Live at Wembley got 0/5 from them, they called it `even less lively than the recent cup final bore ` while during Christmas 1994 they reflected on the previous year, suggesting that the boys farewell was one of the ` reasons to be musically cheerful in 1994 ' To make matters worse, the day after the Albert Hall ( these things stick in the memory! ) some arsehole wrote in with his top ten most horrible bands/people. Who was No.1? Let's just say it wasn't Oasis. Needless to say that they didn't print my death threat to the guy who wrote it. As a 300 strong group, I think we should petition, write en masse or whatever to these people who actually get paid for this, and demand they get their act together. Anyone who sees anti-L42 propaganda, inform the digest, and we'll move into action. The Chant has begun. Tattoo Man PS. Talking about the BobC tapes of truck driving by Mark, Does anyone remember MK appearing with Formula 1 guy Jonathan Palmer on some celebrity racing thing, a good few years ago now. Mark gave ample indication of his ultra-competitive spirit ( he got done for cheating by taking a helicopter over the course the night before in order to map it out and anticipate the difficult bits! ) but him and Jonathan actually won. Is this on the tapes? I also pulled up alongside the Level 42 racing lorry near my house once at traffic lights, but I was so stunned and was in the wrong lane to follow them, so to my eternal regret didn't see who was in the lorry. The ` Remixes ' logo was plastered on three sides of the vehicle. Just thought you'd like to know. ------------------------------ Subject: Rap amuck From: WJGreer @ aol.com Date: Fri, 7 Jun 1996 10:32:17 -0400 >p.s. And what about MC Mike Lindup's rap in "Kouyate"? Hmmm? :) Well, if we're going to call that a rap, then I guess the spoken part in "Past Lives" is a rap too, and the entire "At This Great Distance", and lots of stuff in "Man". What is a rap anyway? Go Phil, go Boon! ------------------------------ Subject: Review of Live CD From: maarten gorter Date: Fri, 7 Jun 1996 18:22:17 +0200 (MET DST) Hello all, A short review of the new Live at Wembley CD (my opinion): It's 77 minutes long (not bad!). The line up is with Gary Husband and Alan Murphy. Mark was very enthousiastic about this combination: "... it's probably better than before. Musically, Alan and Gary are better musicians than Boon and Phil" [Definitive biography]. Personally I liked Boon and Phil better; they gave Level 42 the funky sound, I think. Gary's drumming is more straightforward, dominant and in 'pop' style. Alan likes to make his guitar 'howl', though he can also play like Boon. Most of the older songs, such as Love games, sound a bit uninspired. I think I like the live sound on the video's Live at Wembley (1987) and Guaranteed live better. Still, it's good to hear rarer live tracks such as Silence, It's over, Over there, Man and Take a look. It ends with (the controversial) Chinese way, announced by Mark as the Chinese take away. This is where Mark lets himself go and gives us some of his bass extravaganza. I like it!! It is certainly not a bad CD (how could it be!), and modestly priced here in Holland. I hope all of you can buy it locally soon! I think we should all buy it to show there is still interest in Level 42!! Maarten Gorter (maarteng @ dds.nl) .... .. !!!!!! ------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Subject: Forever Now From: Gregory Reddin Date: Fri, 07 Jun 1996 18:51:37 -0500 Hello Level42 Fans: Just got my new Level 42 "Forever Now" w/4 extra tracks (15 in all) today from http://cdnow.com. Took about 10 days to receive it. Here are my comments and questions on the cd thus far: 1) Surprised to see a different photo-cover than what I expected. I expected to see something more like the picture that the "Level 42 Homepage" has under the lyrics page. Instead, there's a photo of Mark and Mike in front if some global looking architectural structure. Kind of reminds me of Disney's Epcot Center. 2) Noticed that toward the end of the song titled "The Sunbed Song" you can hear Mike singing "Turn It On" from the original Level 42 cd. I think it's a neat touch. Sting does that sort of thing as well every now and then. 3) Does anyone know who that is singing the bridge in the song titled "The Bends"? 4) The whole cd has a different sound. It's gonna take some getting use to. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's bad - just different. I'm looking for that "Running In The Family" kind of groove. 5) My favorite songs off the cd are: (in order) - "Forever Now" - "Love In A Peaceful World" - and "One In A Million". "Forever Now" grooves!!! 6) As I listen to the cd, I'm liking it better as I go along. I think it's gonna work out just right! That's all I have for now. Anyone else have comments on my comments? ABCd has gotten a few of the original FN CD singles back in stock. This is the one with FN album version, Past Lives, Romance and Play Me. If you don't have FN+4 but have the RCA version this will get you 2 of the additional songs that ar on the Resurgence issue. They thought that they would be selling for 10 or 11 bucks US but were not firm on that price yet. Grab 'em while ya can! Would someone that has the Keep Movin' On compilation with( Flying On The) Wings Of Love "dancefloor mix" please post the details, label, year and counrty of issue, cat. # etc., on this disc please? Not only so I can hunt for it with more details but also so Lazlo can fill in the blanks on the discog. Thanks. See ya, Mike
