I've never actually known what they were. It is a great song though, Mark's favourite, actually. Does anyone know what the lyrics mean? I'd suggest they're a criticism of the shite 1980's capitalist state of mind, although I'm probably talking complete crap. ( Loz, don't have a go at me okay, I'm only guessing?! ) Anyone else know? Anyone wanting to take the Puerile Mark debate further will have juicy new ammunition when Live at Wembley comes out. The " tits " plea is repeated in LG, and just listen out for the end of the second verse of TRACIE. Now I know he should sing " and spin me round and round, " but, well, he doesn't. Have a listen, only a week to go, with any luck, but it'll probably be delayed again. That ALAS SMITH AND JONES clip sounded a right giggle, anybody got it on tape? More importantly, does anyone have fluffy dice and a nodding dog in their car, or, more embarrassingly, a Paul Young tape? Mel Smith's quite a big fan of the band I think, I've got a picture of him and Mark looking pissed ( surprisingly enough ) arms wrapped around each other, with a caption underneath suggesting that they're enacting a Keith Harris and Orville sketch. I only tell 'em. Bye for now. BTW, there's a Bleecker Bob's in Cali? The original, of course is on Bleecker St. in NYC. They overcharged here, too. ------------------------------ Subject: Email problem From: pfpd @ pobox.com (Pat Flanagan) Date: Mon, 20 May 1996 11:17:36 -0400 (EDT) If anyone tried to send me a message this past weekend, please send it again, as I didn't get any of my email on Saturday. Question: At the beginning of the song "Pursuit of Accidents".....can someone tell me what MK is saying !? Sounds something like......"This call it's a bobatune....." ?????? Perhaps it's one of Marks' nonesense jumble means something only to him secret code knowone can understand sayings. Just curious. If someone knows, I'm waiting. Thanks. :) mjrlevel42fn4U:) ------------------------------ Subject: Off Topic and I Don't Care From: John Edward Martin Shuford Date: Mon, 20 May 1996 17:29:55 -0700 (PDT) This is a message to let any of you Kevin Gilbert/Toy Matinee fans know the sad news. We have lost a very talented, very promising musician with Saturday's passing of Kevin Gilbert. I didn't know Kevin that well, but I feel privileged to have known him at all. I met him when he played my town in October, then we corresponded by phone, letter and e-mail after that. My partner and I were going to invite Kevin to our wedding next August (a weekend retreat with about 50 people close to us). Like some of his idols, Kevin died at a time when "life had more to give" than what he'd taken, and that he'd given us all so very much. There just aren't enough of these kinds of musicians, so we can all feel his absence even if we didn't know his work. I know there are L42 fans on this digest who know Kevin's work and would want to know this news. For the rest of you, this is an opportunity for you to pick up Kevin's work and see for yourself what we're missing. Please feel free to contact me if you want to know any more. Just think, I've been singing it the wrong way in the car all these years, and people have seen me, too. By the way, I moved from Denver to Dallas while you guys weren't looking. So pretty soon I'll start talking like Tucker! ;D -Will ------------------------------ Subject: re: TCOY Lyrics From: John Goodman Organization: KapComm - Persuasive Communications Date: Mon, 20 May 1996 21:19:07 -0500 Colin transcribed: > Mr. Good's gone away, looking out for number one says, > "TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF." Does anyone else think that this is a jab at either of the Misters Gould, rather than "Mr. Good"... Just a thought... It's called "A Show Of Hands" by Victor Wooten (of Bela Fleck & the Flecktones). The man can play a bass--if ya didn't know. The whole album is just him and the BASS, lotsa slappin', and a little bit of vocals. It really reminds me of the time when Mark was playing by himself during sound-check on the Fait Accompli video. Check it! Also I still have a "Staring At The Sun" CD if someone wants it. Positively, DJ-RJ.
