The song is about an awfuned girl and the repercussions on her life. The line in question is quite self explanatory. 'When nearly a woman a friend of the family took that aay that was precious to give." Are people really assuming this mean took her virginity? What it means is that someone pretended she wasnt an awfun as though her true parents never existed, "She pretended nothing happened there, through the years". Come on. Tearing Mark apart? Im not tearing him apart, I think he's great, I was pointing out that he swears in songs, Im not saying thats bad. I love to swear in songs/conversation/whilst writing letters on the F******** internet etc etc etc. Am I being Flippant? No. The guy in the Love Games Video is Leroy Williams the Conga player, anyone who has a copy of the book will know that he posed in the first ever proffesional photo of Level 42, I suppose that makes him an original member? 2 down three to go...........................BYE..........LOZ ------------------------------ Subject: Final Concert From: laurence green Date: Mon, 13 May 1996 12:19:01 PDT Hi all, The Royal Albert Hall concert was recorded by a guy who runs a Mmarket stall near the RAH. I must say that this CD is better than I thought. The sound quality is unbelievable! I can't believe that some of these track came from 15 year old vinyl. When you receive your disc, you will all agree. My hat goes off to John for pressing this disc, and to the person who mastered it. (sorry I forget the name) The CD covers, and liner notes are on their way to John, who will enclose them with the CD's he mails. I will post about the NYC Level Fest later, and describe all the goodies that were traded. Winston ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Couple of things. This is interesting, because here in the sunny UK, the girl (Cherie Lunghie) appears in our Kenco coffee commercial. Therefore is Taster's Choice the equivalent of Kenco for you US guys? The "girl" in SAY is Cheri Lunghi - a very good looking British actress. She has been in the films "The Mission" and "Excalibur" plus many others, also on UK TV in "The manageress". Over here she is in adverts for Kenco coffee - so maybe its called "tasters choice" in US. > > "Love Games" > > In the BBc video of "Love Games", is that Wally Badarou making good on the > percussion with the loud "LEVEL 42" football shirt? Personally I've never heard anything about him since then, I half expecterd him to turn up on changes but no. From: "MARQUEZ-RICAH" Date: Mon, 13 May 96 09:23:35 CST * For Pat or Zak: Cool! Two people who liked Curiosity Killed the Cat. And, yes, they only had two albums. The first song off of Getahead was called "Name and Number". Did De La Soul use part of that song for their song called "Ring, Ring, Ring" (is that the right title, it was off of De La Soul is dead). The De La song begins with "Hey, how ya' doin', sorry you couldn't get through, but if you leave your name and your number, I'll get back to you..." very similar to the rant of Ben Volpierre-Peirrot in the the beginning of "Name and Number". Anyway, that baffles me. * About the woman in the Something About You video, her name is Cheri Lunghi (sp?), and she was in the movie Excalibur before SAT. Most of the time, I don't. Nor do most Texans. It's fun and based on the amount of positive input I get in my E-mail "box" the extra time it takes to write is worth all the effort. I live to laugh, and if a by-product of that is a smile on someone elses face, well, I live a little longer. I'm not offended by any means. I am not for everyone. But as long as I feel welcome, I will continue to input. Thanks for your input, Will. I can always use the fuel. And as always, I welcome anyone's input no matter what it is (for I am a big boy). To everyone who has sent me mail (and I've responded to you all!), thanks again for the feeling. Makes me smile broader than the rear end of Mama Cass. Concerning L42 stuff in the States, I have had great luck. Bill's Records & Tapes (here in Dallas where the east ends and the west begins!) has quite an impressive collection. Stuff I didn't know existed. Tons of vinyl, singles, remixes, extendeds. Even pictured albums. So for y'all who are looking for something special (especially platters) e-mail me and I'll stop by and check out the inventory for you. And for an additional $19.95 I'll do it while walking on my hands. Luck is a state of mind. It is only what you choose to focus on. Bad luck? Couldn't tell you what it is. I never focus on it long enough. Will, now that's more the true me. But the other side sho' be fun! My uncle, who is an artist and worked in design for a while, thought it was really sharp! And he doesn't even listen to L42 (yet...) Great work, guys!!! I just wanted to mention something about Phil I noticed a while ago, on a subject apart from the current discussion. I didn't notice his vocal contribution much until Forever Now, when I found myself comparing "Mike's" parts to the albums when Phil was gone. It was the very sound I'd been missing. I don't mean to belittle Mike's singing, I think he's fantastic. Did Phil ever do much lead singing in anything, or is he just sound good as back-up (or is this just me?...) And one quick non-L42 post. For and Stateside Dr. Who fans that haven't heard, FOX is showing a new Who movie Tuesday night. Anyone who lives near NYC and didn't come to our LevelFest missed a great time [LA can't have all the fun :-)]. The participants were Mike from Stillwater, Steve Libenson, Winston and me, and we submerged ourselves in Level 42. We watched, listened to and taped all sorts of stuff: videos from Forever Now [have any of you seen the video for the song Forever Now? Lots of women - reminds me of a video for the group Black Box], the laserdisc version of Guaranteed Live [could hear and see everything much clearer than from a VCR], various live concerts [even a tape of their second-to-last show!] and many other goodies. Here are some other things we shared: all videos not on/after Level Best [Love in a Peaceful World, Weave Your Spell, Are You Hearing, etc.] All remixes Freedom-A-GoGo A live Isle of Wight gig from Ryde Arena Thames Hall 1993 gig Hammersmith Odeon 1990 gig A monitor mix of a Boston 1987 show (excellent - straight from the board) A Royal Albert Hall video of Level 42's last performance ever Pictures of Stillwater Mike at Joe DaFlo's and Mark's house (with Mark!) and much more....... Like I said before, we will definitely be doing this again, and anyone who comes will not be disappointed. If you would like a list of some of the rare things they have, e-mail Winston and he would be glad to send it to you. His address is winman @ gnn.com. On another note, on Thursday night I received my t-shirt, the biography, and the b-sides CD (John was kind enough to send it to Winston and I early to have for our Levelfest) and I have to say I was overwhelmed by all three! The shirt is awesome, and I thank Zak profusely. Loz, thanks for taking the time to send the bios out; we all appreciate it. Last, but not least, John Venzon - you are the man! That disk is great - you wouldn't really know any of the songs were from vinyl. The sound quality is infinitely better than The White Funky, and thanks to Winston (and me :-)) the cover will look better too. You guys won't be disappointed when you receive your disks. Ciao for now. Lolita P.S. To add to what I said about Phil vs. Gary, if you listen to any song Phil used to play on a live concert after Phil, you can do a direct comparison. I did that when I listened to Guaranteed Live, and I didn't really care for Gary's drumming on Children Say. That clinched it for me. Gary is good for certain songs, but there is something to be said for Phil's understated but consistent playing. My $.02 for the day. ------------------------------ Subject: T-shirts From: TTrudell @ aol.com Date: Mon, 13 May 1996 16:52:47 -0400 I'd like to go on record about the t-shirts Zak made. They are quite excellent. Thanks a lot! Also, I missplaced the origin of the l42 covers tape offer. Can anyone remind me . . .? The lady in the taster's choice commercials is just another loose libertine sleeping her way through life, one deceit after another. The lady in the Something about you video is more pure, more honest with the world, and has substantially more insight into her own soul. Plus she looks more like Jane Seymour or Mary Steenburger or perhaps it's Barbara Eden with a bad perm. Is anyone laughing yet? -Tom ------------------------------ Subject: CD Covers From: WINMAN @ gnn.com (WINSTON WALKER) Date: Mon, 13 May 1996 17:12:45 The front and back B-side CD covers, as well as the 3 section Liner Note inserts are in the mail. I have sent approx. 50 to John Venzon in L.A. who is burning a batch of disc's. Would the two other individuals who are also burning disc's please send me their address so I can send a bunch to them. If any of the new people on the digest want a copy of Level 42 'The Definitive Biog' I still have load. By the way if your waiting for your copy I now have no orders outstanding, ie all are in the post. Here goes: COST OF BOOK = 10 pounds UK POST AND PACK = 2 pounds and 50 pence US POST AND PACK = 5 pounds air mail or 3 pounds sea mail ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR PAYING IN DOLLARS = 4 pounds (cause thats what it cost me to cash a dollars cheque into sterling) Exchange rate = 1.5 dollars to the pound. so, if your in America you have two choices. You can write a cheque for (10 + 5 + 4) * 1.5 = 28.5 dollars or go to your bank and draft a cheque in sterling for 15 pounds which will save you some money. If you are elsewhere just add 4 pounds in sterling onto the cost in whatever you currency is, but please dont use a really low exchange rate, ie 1 DM = 1 pound. Or alternatively draft a cheque in sterling, this will probably save you money too. My address is: LOZ Green, 110 Abbey Lane, Sheffield, S8 OBQ England Make cheques payable to L Green or (Laurence Green). BTW It really does cost me exactly 4 pounds to change US cheques into pounds. The post to US is 4 pounds 43 pence and the envelopes are 46 pence each so Im actually ripping you off by 11pence, sorry about that. See you soon.......................LOZ
