Hansen" Date: Tue, 30 Apr 1996 20:58:51 -2800 (EDT) Peoples, Ok, I did it again... I blew away a bunch of old archived digests... 118, to be exact. Fortunately (for me and you!), I had _almost_ all of them on a backup tape (thank you, Connor Storage). BUT! I am still in need of 1996 digests **114 through 118**. If you have these, please send them!! If you can send them before noon EST, then please go ahead. If it's after noon EST, then please email me first because chances are likely that someone has already helped me out! Oh, and just to whet your appetites, the reason I accidentily deleted these is that I've "opened up" the email archive server to *all* existing digests - from August 1993 to the current day. What's more, I'm close to being able to announce the new WWW version of the Digest's archive search and retrieval engine... it's gonna be slammin! Stay tuned! I am deep in the process of revision for my exams which start in 9 days. As soon as they are finished I am jetting of to that land across the great divide, land of hamburgers, hotdogs with everything on, talk shows games played with hands but called football etc etc etc. Yes, Im 'Coming To America'. Well, actually Im going to stay with a friend in Lucasville, a place in Ohio. Im gonna stay with my Level 42 friend Kurt Kegley. I may be travelling around too, so if you see someone buy literally a shops entire supply of Level 42 items you must ask them who they are, it could be me!!!!!!!! Ooooops. Its late.... I have to go...Sorry. I watched it last night and it was brilliant - Mark King sat in his studio talking about his bass playing and Level 42 in general. I almost died. He played bits of his solo album in the sudio and we also got to see him drumming (I've personally never seen that before). There were short interviews with Mike Lindup and Gary Husnand also. Hopefully many of us made video recordings. In fact I wonder if it's possible to contact Meridian for a copy of the program on tape, for all our non Meridian TV region dwelling friends (ie. the vast majority)?? I don't know what a TV company would do in that situation - probably refuse but it might be worth it... you never know. In fact - why don't I write them a letter...? Well, I'll disturb* you all no further... Cheers, David. ----------------------------------------------------------- * I am the devil and I know where you live. ------------------------------ Subject: RE: Subject: Forever Now In The US!!!!!!!!!! They're done and I have them, but I just got back from L.A., I was there for a week. I didn't have time to ship them before I left and I'm going to be busy all this week. They will be shipping Monday morning. I'm taking this weekend to package and label them all. I'd like to thank you all for your continued patience, and thanks for responding to my email form, it made it much easier to collect information. Just a side note: There's still a few of you who haven't sent payment yet; unfortunately I can't send you your shirt(s) until I receive it. There are also some of you whose payment I have received but I haven't notified you yet. I'll be doing that tonight (well, last night actually). If you need to know whether I've received your payment or not, just email me. Thanks again everybody for helping me with this project, I think it worked out pretty well. :) BTW, how was the Isle of Wight? I was unsubscribed from the digest all last week so I missed any posts that may have been made last week. Take care, Zak Nilsson, Professional Wierdo '93 NX2k, Stock with advanced timing, Torquemaster plugs and Hella electric horns. ------------------------------ Subject: The Real Guy From: "Tucker A. Why, thank you sir! I'm honored my writing invoked thought. Mom always said, "If you keep doing that you'll go blind." It confused me. I thought she meant reading. Whatever. Please share with me what BTW means. Should I be flattered? I'm as real as a hot summer day in a polyester shirt. Just not as bad. I tend to lay my southern charm on a little thicker than pollen on a bee's butt at times. No, I no longer gather eggs (I did curse my father as a child, though, for having to do it). And I acutally haven't tied a steer in years. But it's fun to poke fun at us. The farm is behind me and I'm now an urban cowboy but roots are real. The boots are real, as is the hat(s). Hell, I even have a buckle or 2 (none that double as a cheese platter, though, one you could serve a couple appetizers on) "Country Boy Does Good!" my mom says the headlines should read. She is a fan of L42! My grandmother is 81 and her favorite songs are "Love Games" and she flips when she hears "Tracie, Where are you now girl......." What can I say? I come from a gene pool of blue hairs that travel the country in search of the "best" roller coasters! Lucky me. Honestly. And the comment on my title suggestions soundin' like porns! Well I was hootin' n hollarin' more than a naked man in briar patch. I got quite a kick out of that one. My assistant was about to call 911. Thanks for making me laugh, y'all. Afterall, isn't that a big reason we all live? It is for me. Heaven forbid anything ever happen to humor or my L42 collection! Why I would simply die. I fly all over the country. I'll have to hook up with some other fans. (no don't think for a second I'm a sky waitress!) This could be fun. Thanks for listen' ps. Never pet a burning dog. Firstly, thanks to Mr. Fish / Eric for the stop-press announcement of the Mark King interview which was on TV last night (The Pier, Meridian TV, 10:45). The programme was great, but unfortunately I didn't get to record it. Did anyone else? Is the programme on again this week? I'll see if I can find out. Basically, the programme was a profile of Mark King, with a fairly lengthy interview of himself from his recording studio. They covered a brief history of the band, and there were also contributions from Mike Lindup and Gary Husband. Some of the interview was conducted at JoeDaFlo's and there were shots of his house aswell. Mark gave a quick bass lesson (slap-tastic!), plus discussed a little about the forthcoming solo album. Some new tracks could be heard as background music. He didn't discount the possibility that he would get back together with Mike, but then he didn't say that they were working together at the moment. Hope others managed to see / record the prog. It was great to get positive proof that Mark King will return soon... From: Linoleum Angel Date: Tue, 30 Apr 1996 22:41:22 -0400 (EDT) I'm sorry all, I'm all out of whack right now, and this question has been nagging at me for a couple days. What's the story on Boon and Phil leaving in 1987? According to Vince's page and FAQ's they split in September and October of that year...HOWEVER...I saw them open for Tina Turner on November 7, 1987 (my 14th birthday-plus-five-days present), and unless they went to all the trouble of finding guys who looked just like Boon and Phil, what gives? I don't understand... They would have had to have left the band not long after that, I suppose, ie. pulling out of the Hampton Coliseum parking lot (Hampton VA has that effect on some people). So could I have been one of the last people to see the original incarnation of the band? Was there anything I could have done but didn't? (Bonus question: Is it possible that I'm overreacting about all this because I just bombed out very badly on a final and all I see in my future right now is "Amanda Paulette, lifetime Busch Gardens employee _and_ the girl who killed Level 42..." Give you a hint: yesssss...) Could someone clue me in? This is going to be a hell of a thing to have to live with (let alone the potential ugly-thread this could start). Later-- --Amanda ------------------------------ Subject: FM - tribute? From: Mighty Maomoondog Organization: Industrial Design Engineering TUD Date: Wed, 01 May 1996 10:52:57 +0100 (CET) Hey all, last week there was a special about Queen on tv (RTL 5 in the Netherlands) and they were, of course, going on and on about the Freddie Mercury Tribute that took place a few years ago. It has probably been asked before, but why didn't Level 42 do anything there? I mean, thay had lost Alan Murphy to AIDS and could have brought this to everybody's attention, right? I think the whole show would've been a lot better had they done something.
