Ben, page back about three weeks and read the digest every day from then. Also, take a look at Lazlo's discography (sorry Lazlo, but you should know better). All that really bothers me about it is that it makes a huge difference as to what "caliber" of band L42 is. I mean, playing Wembley Arena six nights in a row is nothing to sneeze at, but it's certainly not like packing Wembley Stadium six nights in a row, is it? All I am saying is that there is a huge difference between the two, and the correction has been pointed out before, that's all. Geesh, even the dorks who did the CD insert on Turn It On were able to get it right, and they weren't able to get much else right besides that!!! ------------------------------ Subject: B side CD title From: rsmith @ zipmail.co.uk (Richard Smith) Date: Mon, 29 Apr 1996 11:27:37 +0100 My two cents: Back on a Level Spirit Level Staring at the "Page 3" If we wanted to start selling these in retail outlets we should put a picture of Pamela Anderson on it ! Sod it !!! Let's put a gratuitous picture of Pammy on it anyway !! You've just experienced the Cybersensational Smith ! You will have missed it by the time you read this **BUT** it is repeated sometime later in the week - so watch out. Sorry, I missed my reply... DO IT. I'd much rather purchase a CD of B-sides, etc. from any record label than to buy a bootleg (no offense meant). Reasons? The band might get something out of it, and that means that there's continuing PROFESSIONAL support of their music, even if it's just a little label. >I am an Indiana person about to head out to Binghamton, NY for a summer intern. Hey, didn't know there were any Purdumb (er, ah, I mean Purdue) listeners out there! I took quite a few road trips over there when I was at Wabash College. Actually, I had quite a bit more FUN at Purdue, than I did at Wabash, probably for the main reason that Wabash is all male. :/ TCOY, Pat Flanagan Publishing & Design PO Box 281, Granger, IN 46530-0281 email: pfpd @ pobox.com website: http://www.pobox.com/~pfpd TOTALMEDIA PUBLISHING: Print * Disk * Interactive * CDROM * Internet ------------------------------ Subject: Forever Now In The US!!!!!!!!!! From: Fabfriday @ aol.com Date: Mon, 29 Apr 1996 13:19:26 -0400 Saw it with my own eyes today, in the LEVEL 42 section of Border's Books & Music in the Garden State Mall of Paramus NJ, for $15.00 the Resurgence version of Forever Now. Go Get it!!!!! Already got mine.... Bought several other CD's though. How's this for an unusual mix of CD's: 1) Men Without Hats "Collection" 2) David Bowie "Hallo Spaceboy" Import CD Single 3) The Damned "Anything" 4) OMD "The Pacific Age" 5) The Cure "13th" CD Single Regarding the OMD Pacific Age album I noticed the number is CDV 2398. Does the CDV mean a possible Video track is on the disc?????? Anyone????? If that is indeed true, you may just get that. Tevor Horn is also a bassist by trade, and just about all his concoctions, from Frankie to Seal, have very prominent and sylistic bass playing. Also, it might be totally possible for Mark to be guesting on Seal's next album... :) Elson -30- ====================================================================== Elson Trinidad, Los Angeles, CA elson @ westworld.com http://www.westworld.com/~elson ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't worry, this .sig will get better... ------------------------------ Subject: Level 42 Covers... From: Bill Wilson Date: Mon, 29 Apr 1996 10:58:25 -0700 Hello! it seems as though there is enough interest, so here are some more details! I would like everyone who wants to contribute to mail me saying that they would like too... I do consider this a tribute, and we will need a sleeve and a title for this... but for starters, lets just see how many people want to contribute... there are no limits to how many tracks one can contribute, but i thinkg that 2-3 is just fine... mail me! thanks, bill ------------------------------ Subject: B-Sides Changes and Old Level 42 Reprints From: Daniel James Organization: Statistical Sciences Date: Mon, 29 Apr 1996 14:14:32 -0700 I like some of Tucker's idea's: > Flip'em Over (had to throw that one in there, just like a steer) > The Other Side of L42 > Another Side > Here's What RCA Wouldn't Do For L42 [fixed the 2nd word of this title] But of course, my very favorite of all the titles of heard, > The "Let's Hope We Don't Get Busted" B Sides of L42 BTW, is this guy for real? > Adios and Listen to it again..say..after you've just listened to > "Ace Of Base" or something like that..It'll sound like Mozart then. Ick... I wouldn't be caught dead listening to that crap (okay, Ace of Base is better than some of the Top 40 type stuff out there, but I still wouldn't choose to listen to it)... I know that Mike's album is purposly different than Level 42's stuff--and I totally agree with you that I could listen to anything he played. I happen to think that he is simply the finest keyboardist I've ever heard. I just mean that the rich textures and complicated layerings seem to be absent on much of his album. I wasn't listening to Changes for more of Level 42, just as I appreciate the depature from L42 that Mark did with his album. I suppose that dissapointed wasn't really the word that I should've used. I really do love Changes... As for FabFriday's request for interest in Level 42 reprints... Sure, I'd buy one, maybe two of these if they had something I needed. Maybe a few people on this list would buy a few of the older albums that have since been discontinued domestically. It just seems to me that there isn't enough general (public) interest in Level 42. My feeling is that this company might very well lose money in this endevour. Of course, if it didn't cost a whole lot of money in the first place, I'd say go for it. I'm not trying to be a pessimist, just a realist. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Daniel James - Database Administrator djames @ statsci.com Data Analysis Prod Div of MathSoft (formerly StatSci) (206) 283-8802 x284 ------------------------------ Subject: CD-R order! Please respond by Thursday! <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< From: "Matthew T. Blackmon" Date: Mon, 29 Apr 1996 19:52:34 -0600 (CST) Hello all! Matthew here. I've just gotten off the phone with my distrubtor, and he said he's getting a huge shippment of CD-R's in at the end of the week. In order to make sure we have the amount we need, I need everyone who's interested in getting these through me to please drop me a message with: 1) your name (real), and your e-mail address. 2) which batch you're in (or if you just want them for giggles) 3) the amount you're interested in. Remember- if we're going to have three discs burned, everyone's going to need three! I'll have the order shipped to my house, and I'll send John the first batch. The CD guy said to expect to pay about $6.50 per disc! (That should include shipping to my house.) If people want, I'll also go out and get a large box of padded envelopes, for return shipping (haven't checked on those yet). So, what does this all mean? I'm not sure, but here's a crack. . . 3 discs $19.50 Padded Envelope $1.50? Shipping USA $3.00? Shipping Canada $3.50? Shipping EEC $4.50? Shipping others $5.50? or something like that. . . So, for some combination of the prices above, you'd get your three CD-R's, one burned with the B-sides album, two blanks, delivered to your house. I think this is about right. . . Example: Tucker (I remember his name), decieds to get in on this. His total is $19.50 for the three discs, $1.50 for the mailer, and $3.00 for shipping. . . $24! Whereas LOZ's total would be $25.50! So, if this looks OK to everybody, send me mail! Put 'CD-R Request!!' in the subject, so that I'l know what it's for. On Friday (or thursday) I'll get the CD totals, and send everyone a letter with the exact total, and my snail address! OK? Cheers! Perhaps new compilations and rare tracks too? Like I > said earlier, I am in constant contact with OGLIO Records (SONY) here in the > US and can forward any requests by L42 fans. I don't want to sound like a wet blanket but I doubt that Oglio would have any interest in reissuing L42's Polydor-era catalog. All the discs are available as midprice releases in the UK, with some US shops selling the imports for $15-$16. I can't think of *any* discs they've released that have been in print on other labels overseas, and even if they were to make an exception in this case (and ever able to license the albums from Polydor -- another unlikelihood, IMO) Oglio would have a hard time competing with the UK pressings. > IF enough people show an interest, we may be able to persuade OGLIO > Records to take on LEVEL 42 in addition to their existing 80's acts (Men > Without Hats, Freur, King, Etc....)...... All the Oglio releases you mention above are of material that had never been widely available on CD before, if it had in fact been issued on CD before at *all*. Definitely not the case for L42. Now don't let me stop you from suggesting this to Carl -- I think you should ask him about the possibility whether or not anyone else expresses an interest, because I'm curious to hear what he thinks. But I'm pretty skeptical. -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo @ swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo) ------------------------------ Subject: Liner Notes From: Marcus Bone Organization: Kingston University (Science) Date: Tue, 30 Apr 1996 08:59:07 GMT0BST Lolita- Songwriters on Guaranteed - Drew Barfield and George M.
