We could try to hire Joe Daflo's for the night ? Tucker ------------------------------ Subject: stuff From: laurence green Date: Fri, 26 Apr 1996 16:34:11 PDT Hi, Lolita, this is for you. Instrumental Love originated as an instrumental called Love Making Love written by Boon. Mark read the words as Love Meeting Love and the name stuck. Boon wrote the lyrics and Instrumental love was a hurried B-side and Boon didnt play sax, completely off the top of my head a guy called Dave Chambers did? Forty Two originated as a track that was played live many times, it is the B-side of the Love Games single. Beezer One B-side of Turn It On. Foundation and Empire parts one and two also originated as a live instrumental but found its way onto the B-side of the Starchild single. The Return Of The Handsome Rugged Man comes from a headline in a fashion magazine regarding how short hair had come back into fashion. It was Boons idea to call the song that. Freedom was the first stage of Marks solo project although Mike was involved too. Polydor gave him =A310000 to make the single and his album. Cant Walk You Home was B-side of The Sun Goes Down Three Words was originated as a demo called 'Three Words >From You'. It was once a part of the album 'Staring At The Sun' but when the band let record company, friends etc hear the album apparently everyone loved the album but thought the song wasnt good enough so it was removed. It appeared on the B-side of the tracie single entitled just, 'Three words'. All she wants is from B-side Guaranteed. At This Great Distance B-side Overtime. Time Will Heal was a song which was saved for the B-side of what was to be Level 42's final single, 'Tired Of Waiting'. Due to problems with RCA the single was never cut and hence at one stage it looked as though Time Will Heal would never be released. thankfully it appeared on the Resurgence version of FN. Whoever it was who said they got a free CD on a magazine called 'the wire' with a Boon track on it, could they please try and find= me an address to order the back issue, as i have just about everything with Boon tracks on apart from that. WRT the CD, its a fine idea of course. I have my name down for one of course. I am lending CD's all the way to Oprah land of course. John said he thought the idea of going down to the pressing plant with the DAT master and saying, "hello, dur, this is my tape from my band, heres the money, make me the CD." But John said he had stuck his neck out enough already, which is fair enough. So would anyone take up the challenge to take Johns B-side master to a pressing plant and get 500 run off? It would sure save on wear and tear on his CD burner, and Id certainly rather have one pressed than burned. Ooops, Im having trouble with my machine. I just pressed send 100 times. I hope I dont mess the digest up. Darn things, I hate machines. I had enough trouble with pens and letters, let alone keyboards and email. Hey, thats better its all come back now. Should I erase what Ive just written. No, otherwise knowledgable digest members may detect the break in continuity where I was saying one thing and all of a sudden started to say something completely different and thats the reason why I keep my CD's apart from my cassettes;-) OK I heard of Operah, and then theres Riki (am I right?) Now we have this Montel guy. WE DONT WANT THIS TRASH ON CHANNEL 4, WE PREFER COUNTDOWN WITH THE LOVELY RICHARD WHITLEY. Anyway, no takers on my offer for swaps. Just to repeat I have spare: Weave Your Spell 12" b/w Love Games+Dune Tune Live. Love Games 7" white vinyl one sided flexi (live). Love Games 7" b/w Forty two. Something About You b/w Coup D'etat version. Ill swap for any item I dont have. If you live in America and you are worried that you have ordered a book but not got it yet, dont worry. It takes 4 days for my bank to notify me that a Foreign cheque has cleared, then I can put the exact exchanged amount into my spreadsheet and send off your book. This is normally done within 1 day, hence total time from reciept of cheque to posting for USA 5 days. I still have tons left so if you wa= nt one here once again are the details.(sorry to clutter the digest) COST OF BOOK 10 pounds UK POST AND PACK 2 pounds and 50 pence US POST AND PACK 5 pounds air mail or 3 pounds sea mail ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR PAYING IN DOLLARS 4 pounds (cause thats what it cost me to cash a dollars cheque into sterling) Exchange rate 1.5 dollars to the pound. so, if your in America you have two choices. You can write a cheque for (10 + 5 + 4) * 1.5 28.5 dollars or go to your bank and draft a cheque in sterling for 15 pounds which will save you some money. If you are elsewhere just add 4 pounds in sterling onto the cost in whatever you currency is, but please dont use a really low exchange rate, ie 1 DM 1 pound. Or alternatively draft a cheque in sterling, this will probably save you money too. By the way, I have a pile of glossy white paper and a 300dpi laser printer, if you'd like me to print the liners. My personal favourite for a title is: "As Years Go By: L42 B-Sides 1979-1994" -- it really accentuates the fact that the album spans the entire career (so far?) of the band! By the way, how did you come up with 1979 as the start date? I didn't think L42 got started until 1980? Regards, Jeremy =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | Jeremy J. Hansen" Date: Fri, 26 Apr 1996 15:36:31 -0400 (EDT) Ok peoples, I've just made some modifications to the list software to "auto format" and cleanup certain types of message text. Here's a brief list of what will happen to your message if necessary: 1. consecutive blank lines (or consecutive identical lines) will be collapsed into a single blank line. 2. lines that are longer than 78 characters will be wrapped automatically (and leading/trailing/multiple spaces/tabs on these lines are collapsed). 3. those annoying "=20" characters that some [incorrectly-configured] mailers append to each message line will be deleted. I'm just trying to make things prettier without ading [too much] overhead to my list maintenance responsibilities... that way I can concentrate on participating in the discussion rather than re-formatting text. In this respect, I was a little disapointed with his(Mike Lindup's) solo album. The music just isn't nearly as complex(with a few exceptions) and his playing isn't nearly as good (again, with exceptions). Don't get me wrong, I still love his album (especially Changes, West Coast Man, and Life Will Never Be the Same), just that I think he wrote and played beneath his abilities. ME-----Daniel, You must have been sucking on a few too many bottlenecks. Daniel, "Changes" is one of the finest albulms I've heard in years. Look at Mark Kings Solo albulm...The majority of it is not in the same style as Level42. The guys are purposely taking a break from that "Level42" sound. Mike isn't going to do a solo albulm filled with that "Blip Blippy" playing that he has done for 15 years now with Level 42. HE is a keyboardist, and the playing is wonderful on "Changes" I'm a keyboardist and all Lindup has to do it sit on the keys and I'd listen to it. Enjoy it for what is Purposely is..."different from Level 42" Adios and Listen to it again..say..after you've just listened to "Ace Of Base" or something like that..It'll sound like Mozart then. How Mark only started playing bass by coincidence, about early disappointments to all members in finding work in the musical direction... About how they got to the name LEVEL 42... Also some stunning early pictures not seen before. How about Mike in a tiger suit? I think LOZ has some copies left, I can recommend it to anyone!
