OK not at the moment, but never in a million years? I presume something has gone off that no-one knows about. Anyway Crockford was adamant that there is no way Mark and Mike have even spoken to each other in the last month, and unfortunatly from the sound of they may not even be on speaking terms. Dont trust Crockford 100%, but he is doing the deal with ZTT/EMI! Next thing. Good point Winston. From: Marc_Dupuis @ MADISONUSA.CCMAIL.CompuServe.COM Date: 23 Apr 96 09:49:07 EDT Hey Smashie- Yeah! Thank you for your comments. This is exactly what I wanted to see happen. No doubt about it, Phil wrote and co-wrote some great songs. And I really do love his playing (even his chops - how about that beautiful 4 stroke ruff pattern going up the toms backwards on Hot Water? That double hi-hat thing? His percolating groove? Those sunglasses and Jimi Hendrix clothes?). Part of my alliance to Gary is probably based on him playing on SATS, my favorite album. Ya know, I've never seen Jakko playing so I'd probably feel the same way you do. But I thought AMurphy's stage presence was great, what a shame to lose him to this damn virus. Now, who can get me/make me a copy of Live at Wembley? I suspect I'll get lambasted further - Isn't this just great fun? Sorry, if you were just kidding about that but I didn't get > it. Were you kidding? Anyway the most I could get is 2. I don't think we're going to be doing a pressing. Looks like we will be purchasing a CD-R burner for this project and doing it "in-house". Yes, I had said that the pressing plants wanted a 500-disc minimum. The thing is that if 100 of us purchased 5 discs, it would cost 30-50% of what we'll be paying for one disc. The issue is how visible we want to be. If I have to pay $35 for a burned disc rather than $10 for a pressed disc, then I would consider the extra $25 to be like an insurance payment--keeping the record companies off our backs. Okay--I finally got the White Funky in the mail yesterday!!! Yeah, the sound quality isn't great, in fact I'm listening to Eyes Waterfalling right now and I just heard a dropout in the right channel that lasted a few seconds. From: "Julian Arnold" Date: 23 Apr 1996 16:32:55 -0700 Marc Dupuis (Doo Pee??) wrote yesterday... ______________________________________________________________________________ _ "I just bought and listened to Running In The Family. I now have World Machine, RITF, Guaranteed, and Staring At The Sun. And the video's for RITF collection and Fait Accompli. I love all their stuff, of course, otherwise I wouldn't be here, but I _still_ like SATS the best, and I _still_ like Gary Husband the best. Don't get me wrong, Phil is an excellent drummer, has many great qualities, it's just, well, you know... And Alan Murphy was a monster, and the tracks by Holdsworth (one of my favorites) and Jakko compared to Boon - well let's just say Boon wasn't a technician and leave at that. I don't want to offend any of the traditionalists, and Boon also had fine qualities, so why did I even bring it up? For the argument, I guess! Anyhow, Leaving Me Now has been my favorite "older" L42 song (there, now you can't slam me for just liking the athletic tracks!) since seeing them at Toads Place/New Haven back in the Gould era, and HIMH I think is the epitome of the L42 in-your-face righteous PHONKAY (tm) emotional sonic barrage. Now I'll really piss you off, IMHO Mark's best playing is on Kershaw's "Easy." I haven't heard Mr. Pink or Microkid yet, still looking for these discs (why do I have such a difficult time finding even the non-rarities, dammit!), so I may yet be swayed... And you know what? I really like Mike's writing, playing, sequencing, harmonies - but his stage presence has always bugged me. It seems kind of contrived, I don't know, anybody else ever feel this way? The rest of the boys always came across so well, Mike always looked like he didn't feel quite comfortable, or like he didn't want to be upstaged by Mark (which is impossible!). Can you believe that Mark can play that stuff while singing (and I think his voice is great, gutsy baritone stretching into tenor at times, with a chewy center!) - and I saw him pull it off while suffering thru a 102 degree temperature! He chews gum really well, too." ______________________________________________________________________________ _ well, well, well don't we have a newbee "wet behind the ears" type here today!! eh? no direct stab at you Marc but before you pass comment or judgement on Level 42 Material try listening to it ALL first. i.e. try listening to the pre-world machine stuff, live included then come back to us and offer topics for discussion or debate. Don't try it half baked. With all due respect, everyone can like any part of the discog they so well please but you gave your self away by not having heard MicoKid?? Well, the person who really got me interested in Level 42 was my sister (who unfortunatley doesn't have a computer at this time, or she'd be chatting with us) Anyhow, about two years ago she came home with the album Level Best, and I have been hooked ever since! I currently own Running in the Family, World Machine, Guaranteed, and Forever Now. I am trying to get a hold of all the albums, but now that I realize Level 42 isn't really together as a band, I know that might not be as easy. However I have access to some great record stores, so it shouldn't be much of a problem. My latest "fix" is to get a hold of Mark King's new solo album! I want that bad! I live in Anaheim, California, and I'm 28 years old, and yes, still living at home with my parents, but I'm saving money! I currently got laid off from a new job, so I'm looking now. I'm also focusing on changing careers and I'm very interested in nursing right now, so, basically, I've got a lot on my plate! Anyhow, that's a little bit about me. See ya around Levelheads! :-) Roxanne ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V96 #114/Joe DaFlo's 2 From: BOZLVL42 @ aol.com Date: Wed, 24 Apr 1996 00:50:49 -0400 Can you provide some some concert information mentioned in the referred digest? Hey Shuf.....how goes????? BOZ ------------------------------ Subject: M and Leisure Process From: John Edward Martin Shuford Date: Wed, 24 Apr 1996 01:48:41 -0700 (PDT) Well, after my recent good fortune with finding a 12" by Leisure Process, I decided to pull out my lone M album, "The Official Secrets Act." I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about M, about Robin Scott, and how long they were together and how many releases they had. I know they had another one "London, Paris, New York" or something like that (which I can't find anywhere), and I want to suggest that they also put out another one. When in college a number of years ago, a friend found a used copy of an M album (all I recall is that it was black with lime coloured printing), and it featured Mark and Phil again, and perhaps Gary Barnacle. I have no idea what the name was, or when it came out. I want to say 1982, but don't hold me to that. I would really appreciate any further info on M, if possible. Same thing goes for Leisure Process. In a very real way, these were some of the first incarnations of L42, or were at least the equivalent to a Power Station or Arcadia to Level 42's Duran Duran, so to speak.
