From: Sh20Matt @ aol.com Date: Sun, 21 Apr 1996 15:31:11 -0400 What a touchy subject!!!! Why is it so HARD to believe that our IDOLS, are not working together again? Maybe, they want some secrecy regarding this NEW project so expectations from record companies and DIRE HARD L42 fans..wont disturb or influence this new venture. I wouldnt have shared this information to everyone, if I felt it was just the run-of-the-mill L42 gossip, but GENUINE FACT! The information that I got was that Mark and Mike have only just reunited this past January on the IOW, and spoke about plans to explore new material previously not composed during and under the outfit "Level 42". "Serious Situation" was to be the lead single on the next RCA album, but because of the split-up, L42 decided to make the live (royal albert hall) album the 3rd album, due under their contract. Notably, making RCA/BMG (UK) very unhappy, too BAD! Had they demonstrated the slightest bit of marketing knowledge-they could of had a multi-platinum album, instead of those remixes of Forever Now and All Over You that were CRAP! Mark an MIke, want TOTAL control over musical content, concept, and marketing! Too which Paul Crockford's new label "should" provide! and yes....Mark is working on a solo tour, to promote his newly finished album (to which I heard bit from..and it is definately not in keeping with tradition L42 form, but rather his own!) which Gary was rumoured to tour with Mark, but since has come into jeopardy..WHY? Nobody knows? And to the lad who wrote that a better name would have been the Wheel Spin Warriors, I thought was just to funny to leave unmentioned. I have been a L42 fan for many, many years like most of you, I see how rumours fly and die, but I hope this will clarify that I have tried to pass on everything I know-and let YOU draw your own conclusion(s). Did not mean to ramble!!!! NB: If you want to chat at length bout L42 and/or my catalog feel free to ring me at (405) 624-1129 Central Time, please no calls after 10pm, as the missus get a bit pissed, and I dont mean drunk! And this brit, is still in search of some HP sauce!!!!! Best and KInd Regards!!! Hansen" Date: Sun, 21 Apr 1996 22:46:52 -0400 (EDT) Homers&Marges, Not to rub it in, but I just picked up the new "Turn It On" compilation at HMV Records here in Harvard Square for $11.99. It said "IMPORT" on it, so of course I was stunned that it was so cheap. They also had all the pre-Worldmachine stuff available as imports for $15.99. If you're in or around Boston, check there for good selection on the right level. I don't know what Audiophile is "selling" this stuff for (or is it just a copy?), but I'm pretty down on them now... I've bought four CD's from them and subsequently seen them all for at least $10 less locally. I also saw Tears For Fears on Friday night at a club in Boston. Big shout outs to Jodi Goldberg and Marc Dupuis and their respective possies for meeting up with me there... why don't I know more TFF / Level 42 fans in the Boston area, anyways?!?! Also to Rolf and Yvette for showing a "good effort", but bailing at the last minute... next time, guys!! The TFF show was decent. They put on a good performance with a strong band, and nice lighting/visual effects. I must admit, however, that I was expecting a bit more of a "live" show... all songs they performed were pretty much stock/verbatim from their studio efforts. Roland and co. did songs from all albums save The Hurting. They topped it off with a nice 4-song encore. I was also psyched to experience TFF's opening band, Amanda Marshall. I hadn't heard of her before, and didn't even realize that there was an opening act until meeting up with Jodi in line. To say the least, I was very impressed. The web page that Sony has up for her likens her sound to Melissa Etheridge, Janis Joplin and Joni Mitchell. Although I didn't go to this show specifically to hear another band, I would have to say that Amanda and her outfit "out-performed" TFF, showing alot of spunk and honest effort. I just picked up her debut CD also (for $8.99?!?!), and its great - worth buying on spec if you find it cheap and like the aforementioned artists that she's being compared to. She's definitely a "one to watch"... -Eric -- Eric J. I'm taking bids on my LP copy, then . . . "My Hero" is the last track on side 2. I appreciate everyone letting me know they have various trackings of True Colours, but *boy* it would sure be helpful if folks could pass along catalog and tracking details (including which version of "Hot Water" their copies have). This is the trickiest release in the discography so far. -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo @ swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo) ------------------------------ Subject: New Cool Wax... From: "Eric J. I prefer an address somewhere in Europe, e.g. the UK. TIA Walter ------------------------------ Subject: LOZ From: laurence green Date: Mon, 22 Apr 1996 08:19:45 PDT Hi, WRT to Rob, I wasnt talking about you when I wrote again regading Mark and Mike. The reason I wrote denying that they had got back together for a second time was because someone else wrote and said they had heard the same after you had. No harm done though. Bye....................LOZ ------------------------------ Subject: A Nice Score!!! From: John Edward Martin Shuford Date: Mon, 22 Apr 1996 00:22:44 -0700 (PDT) Today I was doing a little digging around for CDs, and I was killing time so I went pawing through the used vinyl. Well, I picked up a rare little gem. I have in my hands a 12" by Leisure Process called "A Way You'll Never Be." The group info is unknown. The lead singer sounds a lot like Robin Scott from M. Gary Barnacle plays sax and writes music for them (I also found several other songs by them on 12"). But the real treat is that Mark King plays bass on this! I haven't had a chance to listen to the b-side yet, so I don't know if Mark makes a repeat performance or if "A Way You'll Never Be" is the only thing he does with them. I'm pretty impressed with them. It's like M or early 42, and I think I'll go back this week and pick up the rest of the stuff I found (I only grabbed this one because I knew Mark played on it). YAHOOO!!!!!! john ------------------------------ Subject: Wembley From: laurence green Date: Mon, 22 Apr 1996 08:31:26 PDT Hi All, I told everyone ages ago that the new CD was wembley 1989. What short memories you all have. I know a dealer in the UK who has been taken to court twice for selling copies of 'The White Funky'. Hence I would keep it all very quiet about the pressings that are being made. I certainly wont be mentioning it to Crockford! See you soon......................LOZ ------------------------------ Subject: New Avengers From: laurence green Date: Mon, 22 Apr 1996 08:45:52 PDT Hi, Sorry it seems Im inundating the list today. Well, having read yesterdays digest, it seems this New Avengers thing is looking all the more likely, and I sure hope the rumour is true. But if you phone up the Level 42 hotline on UK 0898 299742 Paul will tell you Mark has organised a new band, he even gives names of people, and also that Mark has nearly finished his solo album. Paul has also told me Mark will either be signing his album for ZTT or EMI and then releasing his, Album and a single, and then finding time to re-lay the bass lines for Live at the Royal Albert Hall. And when I asked Crockford about Mark and Mike he laughed, and said they havent seen or spoke to each other for virtually two years! Maybe Crock doesnt want me to know the truth. I will phone him today for SURE, and put it to him that 1) A very reliable source says Mark and Mike are reforming under the name of The New Avengers and making some songs that will appear on the last RCA album. (he will then say, "but Level 42 HATE RCA, because they denied them artistic control over their last album and generally made life very difficult for them. like refusing t press any more copies of 'Love In A Peaceful world' hence it went into the charts one week, and came straight out the next.) Well this is all very confusing, so what I will do is ask explain to Crock how loyal the fans have been over the years and how we want to know the truth, and them I will ask him straight and ask him to send a direct message to everyone on the digest, seeing as this is such an important issue. See you tommorow....................LOZ ------------------------------ Subject: Joe Daflo's From: "M.D. Robins" Organization: the University of Greenwich Date: Mon, 22 Apr 1996 09:12:19 GMT Hi , First of all, can I just sat thanks to everyone who came over to the I.O.W at the weekend. I don't know about everyone else, but I had an absolutely great time. The only downers were that the trip was too short, and that we didn't meet Mark. But maybe next time. To all those who couldn't make it, make sure you do next time. A great time is guaranteed. Actually Nigel, as soon as I got home, my sister bribed me =A330 to work on Sunday night. If she'd only done this before I left, the signed copies would be mine! The swap offer for 'Turn it On ' still stands by the way. As I'm sure, does your reply of 'Bollocks!' Your loss, I say. Anyway, to Nigel, Dan, and all, hurry up and get the photos done, so that my tattoo in front of the King's house picture is on the 'net. His house really was obscenely big, wasn't it? Anyway, thanks again and well done to all who came, and stand by for the sequel. Yours, Tattoo Man ------------------------------ Subject: Urban Fascination? From: kdok @ gower.net Date: Mon, 22 Apr 96 03:33 CDT I was scouring the net tonight, and ran across a supposed Level 42 disc called "Urban Fascination" . it's supposed to be a japanese import i think. What in the world is it? Does anyone know?
