Hansen" Date: Thu, 18 Apr 1996 11:03:28 -0400 (EDT) Level-headed Doobies of the world, Well as you all can see, the Level 42 Digest now has *300* subscribers. This is a major milestone (as are all increments of 100), and although we'll probably bounce back to the 290's for a bit, it's still a *huge* difference from the half-dozen charter subscribers that we had back in summer of 1993! Anyways, running this list has been a total blast, and will continue to be so for a long time, I'm sure! Among other things, the list has enabled exchanges of rare tracks, videos, concert footage, *T Shirts*, *CD's*, and not to mention countless personal meetings of Level-minded folks the **world** over!! THIS, is what it's really all about! Fire up those simultini's and watch the *digests* as they fly through the air! TCOY, Eric Level 42 Digest List Administrator -- Eric J. How on earth could they get back together when Mark > is just finishing his solo album and is preparing to tour and do promo work > for his album. And why would they get back together when they just split up? Loz, drop it, eh? I've already conceded that the info I've gotten from Audiophile may not be correct, and I defer to your sources. (Obviously Crockford is going to have more accurate info than Audiophile.) We're all grateful to have you on the digest, since you've got such an inside scoop on things. But please don't rub it in. And, I should say to everyone (because these things have a way of getting blown out of proportion), I'm NOT trying to start some digest battle here. I really do like hearing what Loz has to say. Mark and Mike are not getting back together. Fine. Let's leave it at that. -Rob :-) ------------------------------ Subject: Pink Disc Pressing Fait Accompli From: Daniel James Organization: Statistical Sciences Date: Thu, 18 Apr 1996 10:07:29 -0700 > Does anyone know if the live version of Mr. Pink (Physical Presence) is > available on CD? (If you've been following the discussions on the B-Side CD that is in the works, the second round will be a live CD). > Hello! In some of my > correspondance with them, I got the impression that there were places in > some major areas that would burn a small number of discs for you (and at > reasonable prices, too!). This may be an option if less than a hundred > people want one! I've looked into getting the discs pressed as apposed to burning them. Assuming that only 100 of us wanted one (of course I don't quite understand why *everyone* on the list doesn't want one), the price is very reasonable. Both plants that I called had a 500 disc minimum. The cheapest of the two charged a one-time $349 mastering fee, and each disc (with a one-colour imprint) was $1.20 each. So, again, if 100 people want the disc and we distribute costs amoungst us, the total price to each of us is $9.49. This is cheaper than the cost of a blank CD-R at most places. In addition, we each get 5 copies of the album--one to keep for ourselves and four to pass out to our friends to spread the word about Level 42. Needless to say, the cost of mass-producing the discs is not the factor. We're just not sure right now if any of us wants to take the risk of having to deal with Polydor coming after us. This would make the costs rise dramatically :) > BTW- is the plan still on to do three discs? If so, put my name on those > two as well! Most likely, the second disk will be for live cuts not available on CD, the third disc will be for Remixes (if a third disc feels right). > Subject: Quest for Fait Accompli > From: lonestar @ redshift.com (Jerry Rehn) > Date: Wed, 17 Apr 1996 20:55:44 -0700 I found my copy at Tower on Watt Ave in Sacramento (before I moved to Seattle). They actually had two copies, but I got them both--the first copy was bad and so I returned it for the second copy. I also got my copy of Live at Wembley and Family of Five at their video section. They were in the rental area and they let me purchase their copies!!! Anyway, I am looking to replace my copy of Level 42 which disappeared some time ago. Cruzing the web, I found a copy of Fait Accompli at CD Banzai for 17.98. Look on Yahoo for their address (or since you have to call them to order anyway, their # is 818-980-0054). CD Now also has it listed (and you can order it online through them at http://cdnow.com). Interesting... I just checked my order with CD Europe. They have shipped me my copy of The White Funky, but they state that Turn It On is out of print. I guess I'll try elsewhere. Hard for me to beleive that it's out of print already! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Daniel James - Database Administrator djames @ statsci.com Data Analysis Prod Div of MathSoft (formerly StatSci) (206) 283-8802 x284 ------------------------------ Subject: L42 Video's... From: bshepard @ bmsc.com (Brian D. Shepard) Date: Thu, 18 Apr 96 10:04:14 PDT Hey All! This is my first post to the list. I've been reading for a few weeks now and really find this very interesting, since I'm totally & absolutely obsessed with L42. I've read that some people are having a hard time finding the video's. I got my video's from Audiophile Imports in Maryland (1-800-AUDIO-90)... Fait Accompli documentary, Guaranteed concert video, & Live At Wembly concert video. However, these are only copies, but they were copied from their own LaserDisc collection. I think I paid $40(US) for each. They're in stereo and the quality is pretty good. I don't think they sell the actual LaserDisc's, but you could ask them. If you can't find these video's "brand new" anywhere, I would suggest calling these people. Through Audiophile, I've also collected every L42 album on CD. They also have a web page...( http://www.cyboard.com/audiophile.html ) [you mean they're *selling copies* of the Level 42 laserdiscs?!?! -Eric] I wish I could join you guys who are going to JoDaFlo's this weekend, but I'm stuck here in San Francisco. It sounds like a total blast! Have a pint for me! Anyway, just wanted to say 'Cheers' to everyone and wish all my Level-Best to you! -- Brian D Shepard bshepard @ bmsc.com 4/18/96 10:04:15 AM PT Quote: "Friends don't let friends do Mac" ------------------------------ Subject: downgraded from Mac to PC From: Bruce_Conrad @ hchp.org Date: Thu, 18 Apr 1996 14:57:49 -0400 I have a new email address. I tried to get them from the Web archive, but I couldn't. LOZ - I want a book. I'll send $ real soon now. I want a CD as well. I'll send John Venzon the info. I may buy a DAT player this weekend, perhaps people could trade DAT's with me w/other rare L42 stuff. later... ------------------------------ Subject: LA Levelheads, Laser Disc Questions From: Colin Campbell Date: Thu, 18 Apr 1996 13:08:12 -0700 Yeah, yeah, I live in the greater Los Angeles area, too. And I keep reading about all these NYC get togethers. Well, since we all know LA is better than NYC (We all know that, right?), maybe we should organize a little something. Say like, maybe a field trip to see Elson's band? I almost made it about a month ago when they were playing in the Los Feliz area. Anyhow, it's just an idea - email me personally if you want to help set this up. I'm really looking forward to the Turn it On compilation, if only for that one unreleased track. And a new live album, to boot? Awesome! I finally had a dub made of my laserdisc of the Guaranteed tour show from Town and Country Club. Funny thing - I saw the band at T+C the night AFTER they shot the film. So with only a few minor variations, this is like a great recording of a concert I attended! Speaking of Laser disc, I also was able to view an old 80's compiliation laser disc, with videos from artists like Bronksi Beat, Lloyd Cole, The Communards, and, of course, Level 42! But this is the third laser disc version of "Something About You" I've seen, NONE of which contain the infamous "howl" as the camera pulls away from Mark/Clown, etc. about 3/4ths of the way through the song. (The other two laser versions - "Level Best" laser disc, and the "Something About You" CD-5 Video/Laser disc.) Of course, on the "Level Best" videotape version of "SAY", the howl is heard. This to me is damn odd. Maybe I shouldn't obsess about it, but if anyone knows why different versions of the audio track appear Laser and Videotape, I would love to hear an explanation. (Remember, the VIDEO portion of the song is frame-for-frame the same -- only the audio is different.) That's it for now-- have a great weekend everybody!! Thanks to all who were wiling to help out a stranded fan on the musically deserted island of California! I truly appreciate all of your offers. I have already commited to an offer, so you all can stop sending messages now. When I was answering a couple of messages regarding this subject, several more came in and I began to laugh. Who needs the big records stores? Join a digest who supports the band!! If they can't get it no one can! That's my new battle cry. Come on, say it with me!!
