Have you gotten my DAT tape yet? I have one comment regarding the final product. I think that "Freedom" should be track # 6, and "Can't Walk You Home" should be track # 7. According to my info, "Freedom" was released in July of 1982 and "Can't Walk You Home" Was released in July of 1983. I have a compilation LP from Polydor with "Freedom" on it, and this LP is dated 1982. What do you think? Winston ------------------------------ Subject: Live version of Mr. Pink on CD? From: "Cohen Doug" Date: 17 Apr 1996 11:35:52 U Does anyone know if the live version of Mr. Pink (Physical Presence) is available on CD? Or any of the other tracks, for that matter, from the Physical Presence cassettes tat didn't make it onto the CD. Thanks, Doug ------------------------------ Subject: biography and IOW From: Nigel.Collier @ ncl.ac.uk (Nigel Collier) Date: Wed, 17 Apr 1996 15:50:41 +0000 I received my copy of the "warts 'n' all" Level 42 biography on Monday and read it in a single sitting - "I couldn't put it down" - it doesn't pull any punches. Thanks very much to Loz for his efforts (once again), it's going to be an invaluable companion on the trip to the Isle of Wight this Friday...oh yes, that reminds me... [ring ring...ring ring...] "Hello, JoDaFlo's...", said the chirpy voice at the other end of the line. Yes, I called JDF's today and can confirm that it's still alive and well (I had a dreadful feeling that it may have closed down and I'd be extremely embarrassed, after all the planning, if we all turned up on the Isle of Wight to find that it was now a travel agents or a sandwich shop). It was described to me as a "cafe bar" open from 10am - 11pm, serving lunches between 11.30 and 2.30 Monday to Saturday. In total, there are 7 of us meeting at the bar on the island the day after tomorrow and they're aware that we're coming. If successful, this may turn out to be a mere foretaste for a larger pilgrimage at a later date judging by the interest shown. Regards, Nigel PS. It's still not too late to join in, the more the merrier! From: Bill Wilson Date: Wed, 17 Apr 1996 09:23:01 -0700 I have almost *no* level 42 paraphernalia and need some BAD!!! posters would be coolest, but just about anything will do... if you have anything to sell please let me know! thanks bill billw @ quickxpense.com ------------------------------ Subject: B-side CD & Earthquakes From: John Venzon Date: Wed, 17 Apr 96 09:36:08 -0800 Level-All, Well, I am glad to report that so far into DAY ONE of the "I want one!" sweepstakes I have 17 requests for B-side CD's. I think that many more will pour in, but was glad not to find 200 in one day. I have a small favor to ask, though. In our line up we list 'Can't Walk you Home' which at the moment is recorded from Vinyl and is the version that runs 6:43, rather than what seems to be the edited version that appears on the CD comp 'Turn it on'. If anyone out there has one that they could send to me on a loan basis, I might be able to use part of the CD and through the magic of editing, clean up the vinyl surface noise into and out of the tracks. I'd rather include the longer version on the CD, but I like to hear the CD version and judge sound quality myself. My goal: Maximum Level 42/Maximum Sound Quality. No rinky dink seventh generation cassette dubbers are we! On a side note, all those of us here in LA, well, I'm here in LA as well! Perhaps we should all get together and have food or something. Why should everyone on the east coast have so much Level fun? Huh? Anyway, keep those cards and letters coming people, John JVenzon @ aol.com JVenzon @ primenet.com ------------------------------ Subject: Calling all Metro NYC Levelheads! From: lolita @ interserv.com Date: Wed, 17 Apr 1996 10:37:24 -0700 Hey All: Winston and I will be hosting NYC Levelfest II. Anyone who lives remotely near NYC is invited to join us for total immersion in Level 42. Mike from Oklahoma (they new digest member that has met Mark) is flying in for the weekend, and between he and Winston everything that exists pertaining to Level 42 can be found. That means that all the videos, concerts, b-sides, remixes etc. that you ever wanted to tape, you can do it then. This is a golden opportunity to see/hear new stuff, talk about the band, and just hang out with people who are as cool as you :-). Interested? The date and time: May 11 at 12 Noon meet at the Starbucks on the NE corner of 28th and 3rd. If you are more than 30 minutes late, call Winston's apt. at 684-1353. Please e-mail Winston or me if you plan to attend. ------------------------------ Subject: Nothing More To Say From: laurence green Date: Wed, 17 Apr 1996 08:40:54 PDT Hi all, Mark have Mike have not got back together. That's straight from the horses mouth, well Crockford. How on earth could they get back together when Mark is just finishing his solo album and is preparing to tour and do promo work for his album. And why would they get back together when they just split up? On a better note I have recieved another letter from Boon, (the third so far) I asked him about the rare tracks I have always rumoured that existed. Haunted House, Morning, The Happening, Night Train and thats listed as unconfirmed in Lazlos discography, 'The Handsome Rugged Man'. The first two of Boons letters were personal and little to do with music, but heres his latest reply: "Dear Loz, I am writing in answer to your most recent letter. I dont have my computer with me hence the dreaded handwriting. I will try to answer your questions the best I can. 1) I cant say what pressings Andy Sojka made. But over the years there were so many mixes and odd things flying about it was impossible to keep track of them as we were more concerned with getting out and playing live. I remember we did a track for a Radio 1 session called, 'Morning' which was never released. There was also a track called, 'Nothing More To Say' which we did live a few times in early '81 but was never recorded. 'The Happening' was a mad B-side which we loved but the record company freaked out about so that never came out. 2) The 'Haunted House' vocals were done by Mark and Mike. I never sang once in my time with Level 42 and have had to work quite hard since then to make it sound like anything. (My singing!) 3) 'Night Train' was a song of Mikes which we did in rehearsals but Mike sang it. I believe we did it live a few times but my memory in unclear on that one. 4) I would think the internet thing is a misprint. 'The Return Of the Handsome Rugged Man' was a headline in a fashion magazine concerning the time when short hair came back into fashion, I suggested it as the title for the B-side and it was used. 5) I am afraid I dont recall the, 'Journey to ...' thing and I have no idea who Powerline are or were rather. As I said earlier there could be a great many things I am not aware of as the record company often put out promotional bits and pieces. Take Care. Boon." Thats not the entire letter but the rest of the stuff is personal stuff. So there we are, at last confirmation of the suspected existance of those rare songs. All I have to do now is get hold of them. First thing is to write to Polydor and Radio 1, that should track down at least 2 of them. The other may prove more difficult. I will be sure to keep everyone posted on my progress. Blackmon" Date: Wed, 17 Apr 1996 11:38:46 -0600 (CST) Hello! My name is Matthew Blackmon (the one who actually got in touch with the Grateful Deadheads about doing this project). I'm very interested in getting these to anyone who wants one. In some of my correspondance with them, I got the impression that there were places in some major areas that would burn a small number of discs for you (and at reasonable prices, too!). This may be an option if less than a hundred people want one! Anyhow, if anyone wants me to follow up on that thread, just ask me, and I'll get right on it. BTW- is the plan still on to do three discs? If so, put my name on those two as well! Later, all! I was told by a few digest members that there was a few in a store near them, but didn't really want to pick up a copy for me because they were afraid that everyone would then ask for the same deed. No hard feelings, I understood at that time. My problem is that I have tried for 7 solid months and no one in the Monterey, Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles or anywhere in California can get this thing!!! I really need help in locating this video. I will pay all shipping to and from as well as a bit extra for taking the time out to send it to me. This is the one video that has behind the scene footage that I want so much to see. I've got to get in touch with BobC also (anyone remember him??) to try to buy copies of his videos as well. Again, this is a plea for help. I'm drowning in a sea of stupidity in California regarding our boys!! Thanks in advance! - Jerry Rehn
