I followed up on Daniel James's (via Brent) tip off myself and ordered White Funky through CD Europe - I received an email today telling me it has been shipped just 11 days after I placed the order. CD Europe seem to have an enormous listing of Level 42 stuff (the best I've seen so far) and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that WF was available. They're really worth a look. Any offers on the French bits in _Play Me_ yet? See you in Joe DaFlo's next weekend. Eye's down for a full house!! It was only 99 cents! The cover is a bit worn I will say but hey who cares. The other was Staring At The Sun on vinyl for only $7.99!!!! Is this worth anything? Lucky day for me! ------------------------------ Subject: Herman Hesse! and other things From: Marcus Bone Organization: Kingston University (Science) Date: Fri, 12 Apr 1996 14:48:12 GMT0BST This is my first mail for a while - so apologies if I waffle a bit. Firstly - I don't see the point of including "All Ahe Wants" and "As years go by" on any future CD, these are already available on the CD singles of "Gauranteed" and "My Fathers shoes" one of the reasons I would buy such a CD is to save getting my records out and playing them until they are flat, so I think any CD should concentrate on songs that are vinyl only at the moment. Also Loz mentioned that some tracks off the album "Pursuit of accidents" are inspired by Herman Hesse (correct spelling!). As all who have heard the white funky will know Mark announces that the song "eyeswater falling" is inspired by Herman Hesse. The book he is referring to is "The Prodigy" and it's about elite educational establishments and how they affect people. I won't spoil the book for you - but if you read it you will find the lyric "I lost control in the night, and drifted away" especially relevant. As for other songs on the album I believe (I'm out on a limb here) that the infamous "Chinese Way" was a reference to another HH book " The Glass Bead Game", this is on a similar theme to The Prodigy , in it one of the characters spends time with a chinese guru, this is a bit blatant for Phil but it does fit the book. "Are You Hearing" could also be taken as a reference to the glass bead game, the only real way to find out is to read them yourself. Personally I found the prodigy easier to get into as the glass bead game is heavy going. On a lighter note - I'll be down in the IOW next Saturday with David (Mr Fish), so hopefully we'll see a few of you down there. Is this true? And if so does anyone have a video or audio copy of the show or shows? I'm also looking for any info on anywhere I can order Nik Kershaws "The Riddle" on CD. I've heard it and love it and would like it to complete my collection of his CD's. Can anybody help? ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Mark and Mike From: Rob Kadel Date: Fri, 12 Apr 1996 11:50:29 -0400 (EDT) LOZ writes: > I dont know who it was that said Mark and Mike were working on a project > together, but thats not at all true. From: "Peter Weaver" Date: 10 Apr 1996 15:05:00 -0600 Hey guys, just wondering if anyone might know, why did Alan Holdsworth leave Level 42? I read an interview in a guitar magazine where Alan Holdsworth said how happy he was to be on-board and it sounded like he had joined the band as a permanent full time member. I was dissapointed to see him go. Does anyone know about this? . . .thanks, Pete. ------------------------------ Subject: The White Funky From: kdok @ gower.net Date: Fri, 12 Apr 96 12:51 CDT I called Second Coming Records in New york, and to my amazement, they had "The White Funky". Matt Logan ------------------------------ Subject: Waoh, waoh, waoh.. From: LittleHalo @ aol.com Date: Fri, 12 Apr 1996 14:36:43 -0400 Hi Levelheaders, I have been on the Digest for a little less than a year now and I don't know if I'm bringing up a topic that has already been discussed here. I have never gotten the answer to this question: Why do the crowds at Level 42 concerts always chant, "Waoh, waoh -- waoh, waoh, waoh!" with the rhythm of their songs? Is it something that's just done in the U.K. at all concerts or is it just a Level 42 crowd thing. Either way, does anyone here know where it originated? Unfortunately my dream to do this chant one day at their concert never became a reality :-( . Also, I was wondering how many people on this Digest were from the Los Angeles area. I live in the L.A. area and I wanted to know if I may be driving next to a Digest member everyday. I know that "Darktree" was near me but I lost touch with him. Anyone else around here let me know where you are please, either on the Digest or by personal email. See y'all, Angel
