They performed "Something About You" and got a great crowd response. I have video of this performance, if anyone is interested in a copy. Winston ------------------------------ Subject: Something About You & Leaving Me Now From: rlmoore @ students.wisc.edu (rl moore) Date: Tue, 9 Apr 1996 08:20:10 +0700 I'm sure this question has been answered before but could someone answer it for me? What is the connection between the character Mark plays in both the "Something About You" and "Leaving Me Now" video(dressed in yellow with makeup and lipstick). Just wondering if their was an interesting story behind this and how this plays in to both videos. Also is the Sequence on the train in "Something About You" a take or tribute on the Beatles Hard Days Night, kind of, I know this may be stretching a little bit but I'm a film major and I try to pick out and look for interesting similarities in every film/video I see. ------------------------------ Subject: Help! I've just come back to uni. and I've got ABSOLUTELY NO MESSAGES AT ALL. I suspect it's a fault with my machine, but otherwise, where is everybody! Help! Thanks! I can certainly e-mail you a copy of this (and to anyone else who would like one). I am 2/3 done transcribing this article, it's long long long. After that I will do some simple HTML tagging so that it looks pretty (also to preserve all the formatting in the original article like italics, etc) and then it'll be available. I hope to keep my promise to have it ready by Thursday. Otherwise it'll be Monday. (Plus the time it takes to get it up on the Home Page). ------------------------------ Subject: L42 news from Audiophile From: Rob Kadel Date: Tue, 9 Apr 1996 14:21:56 -0400 (EDT) Well, I talked to the folks at Audiophile this morning and they gave me some news on L42 stuff. Anyone who's heard differently -- feel free to correct me. Apparently TWO concert CD's are due for release either at the end of this month or shortly thereafter. One is the Live at Wembley disk, release date April 29, which is from 1989 and features Al Murphy. The second is a compilation of concert tracks from the '80's and '90's; the release date is not firm, but is supposed to be shortly after the Live at Wembley disk. Mark's album is due for release "later this year" (whatever that means). The release of Forever Now Live has been pushed back to (gasp!) December 1997! And finally (and this is just cool) Mark and Mike are apparently working on a combination project together. That's right, folks, THE NAME IS GONE BUT THE MUSIC LIVES ON! The Audiophile guy said he'd talked with Gary Husband recently who said that the biggest problem the band had of late was that the record companies (RCA in particular) were pushing the music in a direction the band didn't want it to go. Gary wondered why he was even the drummer because the company wanted dance and pop for which they could've used sequencers. This is also why RCA sent Forever now back to the band like eight times, which eventually saw Phil saying, "To hell with this," and walking out. That's why he didn't tour with them. Furthermore, the problem that many of us Levelheads have had with the band's sound going in the "wrong direction" can be attributed to the record companies, not the band. So, in an effort to make more of the sound that Mark and Mike want, they have lost the name but will continue to make music together. There is no set date on any release of their current collaboration, but look for it next year. So that's all from this side of the Atlantic. From: "Peter Weaver" Date: 9 Apr 1996 20:58:27 -0600 Hello! I'm a newbie to the Level 42 Digest. I just wanted to quickly greet everyone. I have been a hard core Level 42 fan since 1982 when I first heard the album 'Pursuit of Accidents'. Since your making plans for a CD of rare material, you might like to know that I own a DAT deck as well as pretty much every CD and CD Single that was ever released by Level 42. I have a pretty good collection of B-sides and rare songs on my collection of promo and single CD's, as well as every album the band has ever done including the really early stuff. A little about me . . .I have been a professional drummer and composer for over ten years, and I own a cassette duplication business. I also work at Hewlett-Packard as tecnician for all Macintosh related printers, scanners, plotters, jet direct cards, etc. I saw Level 42 in 1987 on the World Machine Tour when they came to town. It was one of the most amazing live acts I've ever seen. I would like to put out a special request that is a little off the subject . . .ATTENTION ALL PERSONS, I AM DESPERATELY SEEKING ANY CDs BY THE GROUP 'RED BOX' . . .THEY WILL PROBABLY BE FOUND IN EUROPE AND THE UK BUT MAYBE THE STATES TOO. PLEASE IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEA ABOUT ANY CD OF ANY KIND, NEW OR USED BY THE BAND RED BOX, COULD YOU KEEP AN EYE OUT IN LOCAL STORES IN THE UK AND EUROPE? MAYBE YOU COULD CHEXK THE USED BINS TOO. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ANY INFO ANYONE TURNS UP!! FEEL FREE TO E-MAIL ME AT Peter_Weaver @ macmail.boi.hp.com Also, I have two rare Level 42 T-shirts from their world tour. I was thinking about scanning the artwork and maybe some new T-shirts could be made! . . .Thanks again, Pete. ------------------------------ Subject: New Subscriber with Questions From: Lazlo Nibble Date: Tue, 9 Apr 1996 22:11:46 -0600 (MDT) > Why do "Hot Water" and "The Chant Has Begun" appear on both True Colors > and World Machine? Polydor apparently didn't trust World Machine to do well enough in the US on its own, so they added two older (and already mildly successful) tracks to the Stateside release. -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo @ swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo) ------------------------------ Subject: Forever Now at CDnow From: djd1css @ basil.acs.bolton.ac.uk Date: Wed, 10 Apr 1996 10:58:36 +0100 I was browsing around the Cdnow site the other day and found that Forever Now is now in stock on the Griffin Music/Gopaco label (catalogue number 4876 543 2) There's no indication whether this is the original RCA version or the Resurgence version- but anyway it costs $12.39. This will save US fans of the band having to rob a bank to be able to afford the album on import. On another issue- does anybody know whether the live at Wembley CD that is being released by Polydor on the 29th April is the album that Crockford was originally going to release independently. Or is the concert that was taped by the BBC still going to be issued in its own right. Dan the Man ------------------------------ Subject: Its LOZ From: laurence green Date: Wed, 10 Apr 1996 11:43:26 PDT Hi everyone, Sorry Im not in much but its still my holidays. I start again on Monday so Ill be posting every day then! Whoever that guy was who said Polydor were releasing a live album from an 86 concert please mail me with full details as soon possible. I phoned Crock and he was insistant that the album in question must be his album, which if WFR CD5 or WFR MC5 and is out in about three weeks. He says Polydor should have notified him if they were planning to release an album, after all he had to notify Poldor for his latest release (Wembley 1989) so if there really is a live Polydor album from 1986 and somwone can get details ie track list and cat mumber then let me know ASAP so I can let Crock know! If anyone hasnt has a reply about the book then please re mail me and Ill get to it straight away, even if you havent had a reply still send a cheque, there is a copy for everyone on the digest! If anyone else still wants to order a copy here are the details: COST OF BOOK = 10 pounds UK POST AND PACK = 2 pounds and 50 pence EC POST AND PACK = 3 pounds and 50 pence US POST AND PACK = 5 pounds air mail or 3 pounds sea mail ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR PAYING IN DOLLARS = 4 pounds (cause thats what it cost me to cash a dollars cheque into sterling) Exchange rate = 1.5 dollars to the pound. so, if your in America you have two choices. You can write a cheque for (10 + 5 + 4) * 1.5 = 28.5 dollars or go to your bank and draft a cheque in sterling for 15 pounds which will save you some money. If you are elsewhere just add 4 pounds in sterling onto the cost in whatever you currency is, but please dont use a really low exchange rate, ie 1 DM = 1 pound. Or alternatively draft a cheque in sterling, this will probably save you money too. My address is: LOZ Green, 110 Abbey Lane, Sheffield, S8 OBQ England Make cheques payable to L Green or (Laurence Green). WRT The Pursuit of Accidents I heard some songs on the album are about a book by a guy called Hermun Hess.(I think) See you soon...........................................................LOZ
