Where Level 42 got there name ------------------------------ From: Michael BROOKS Organization: Technology Date: Fri, 17 Mar 1995 13:37:59 GMT Subject: FreakPower As people will know, I am a huge FreakPower fan and I am proud to announce that their single entered the UK chart at number 3 this week....I just hope you lot in the US will appreciate them when they get over there. Dave Crowson and Martin Ashby are aware of the calibre of this band...get behind em if you can and keep the funk alive! By the way, the album will be re-released in the UK on April 3rd. ------------------------------ From: dcrowson @ amoco.com Date: Fri, 17 Mar 95 15:31:52 +0000 Subject: Hot Verdomme, Nederlanders abounds :) From: Vugt >Hi to all of you out there. Yea, keep my sunglasses on > that (according to me) fits in perfectly, this is Mezzoforte, they make > jazz-funk-popsongs (instrumental) with a nice slapping bass like Mark K. I remember these (in fact they were on 'Cue the Music' last week) They were big at the same time Level 42 first hit the streets, back in the days of the disco /jazz funk thang. I feel that altho' they are a great funkyjazz band , they tend to lack punch that Level42 are oh so capable of, but they are most definitely OK for listening to on a warm summers days in the garden along with a cool pitcher of liquid imbibement.More relaxing than Level42, who IMO, are good at getting the blood going... > Is it true what I read that someone has live tapes and he's willing to > put them on tape for those who want to have them and the price is it > for all three or is it just one concert and does the offer still stands? Talk to Mike Brooks about that..... This is one that I'm still not sure if I buy, has anyone ever seen a quote stating this ? Maybe it's because I thought the book was an absurd piece of trash...or maybe it's 'cuz I'm from New York... Here's a rare word from Boon (from yet another article I will type up when time allows, from OM (only music), October 1987 : "Our name? Yes," laughs Boon Gould, guitarist for the rock-fusion band Level 42, without prompting. "It came out of a trip that Mike (Lindup, the band's vocalist) and I took when we were younger. We arrived in New York with knapsacks on our backs---the idea was to get to California. We arrived at the Greyhound station at ten in the morning and found that the bus didn't leave until nine that night. So we started wandering around 42nd Street since that's where the station was. There were all these people coming up, offering us ladies, dope addicts asking or money, and people trying to sell us heroin and stuff," he starts to chuckle. "Here we are, two fresh-faced boys with knapsacks on our backs. We didn't know where we were, but we thought that it was our level. Level 42." ------------------------------ From: LEEMD @ PLU.edu Date: Fri, 17 Mar 1995 10:38:49 -0800 (PST) Subject: Where Level 42 got there name Hello Everyone!!! A question was raised about where Level 42 got there name. It was from the book HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY. Check it out. Unfortunatly I don't know too much beyond that. Welcome all you new people. --Mark
