I have the VideoDisc of "Level Best" (very good, by the way, if you don't have it), so I went over it last night, and I think Mark mouths the words "We're only human after all" at the end of the "Something About You" video. -Bobby -- Bobby Alcott Database Administrator Precision Graphics Champaign, IL ------------------------------ From: Rob Kadel Date: Wed, 1 Feb 1995 09:46:08 -0500 (EST) Subject: SAB lip-reading > Also, thanks to the guy that emailed me to tell me about "There is a > dog"... sorry about missing your name - it scrolled out of my scrollback > buffer! As far as I know the version on The Remixes is the same mix as on the "Children Say" 12"/CD5, but I haven't compared them directly lately. There's a shorter version of the remix on the 7" of "Children Say" and that's about it. All this info's in the discography, which is available through my home page, the (soon-to-be-announced?) L42 home page, or via FTP at "ftp://rt66.com/users/lazlo/discographies/level.42". -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo @ rt66.com) ::: http://rt66.com/lazlo/ features Discographies, Record ::: Collecting Resources, The Internet Music Wantlists, and more. ------------------------------ From: Joerg Ruschka Date: Wed, 1 Feb 1995 15:25:27 -0500 (EST) Subject: Hi everyone!! Hi, as y'all can prob'ly tell, I'm new to the Level42 digest here. My name is Joerg, and I live in Toronto Canada. I've been a fan of Level42 since the release of world Machine. I saw them in concert in September of 1987 here in Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens. It was my first concert ever (I was still quite young), and even though I have seen probably every big artist (and many smaller ones too!), since, it still ranks in my top 5 of concerts. I read an interview with Mark King a while later, and he says that that gig was like a hometown London gig, because the audience was so enthusiastic. He also stated that Toronto, is Level42's strongest North American market (or at least it was at the time, as they hadn't really "broken" in the states yet). That, unfortunately was the last time i saw them, and I don't think that they've played here since, but it would be very very nice, especially if they played a smaller venue such as a large club or small concert hall. Him and various other members of the band have been on MuchMusic several times, and they're always fun to watch. The thinks I like about the band are; the muscianship- they're all amazing musicians hands down, and also regardless of what lineup, they perform very tightly for a band. I also really really like the way the albums are produced. They aren't too slick like some albums out today, and they aren't too raw (they aren't raw at all infact). I liken it to the difference in reception between an a.m radio station and a clear f.m. radio station (level42 CD's being the f.m radio station of course.) I know that its really a weird point to bring up, but what the heck, its worth mentioning. Bye all JR! I always thought he said something along the lines of "And I couldn't be without you here tonight." [God knows I almost wore out the videotape that had that on it]. I found all the lyrics to the "World Machine" album somewhere on my 'net expeditions [damned if I can remember, though] and I think the last line said something to that effect. Have a good one, -Amanda Paulette akpaulet @ vt.edu P.S. This is a really sad little anecdote, but I'll be brief. I was at a party last weekend and one of the CD's they played had a mix of "Lessons in Love" on it. No fair guessing who was the only one in the room who had any idea what song it was, let alone could sing along. And can you believe some people were bitching about having to dance to some song they'd never heard? What gall! Sheesh, will they ever learn? ------------------------------ From: John Edward Martin Shuford Date: Wed, 1 Feb 1995 21:06:48 -0800 (PST) Subject: Trace Elliot In the latest edition of Bass Player Magazine, Mark King's name appears in the largest type, with a picture of him (from the Fait Accompli box), in a Trace Elliot ad. The ad is on the inside of the front cover. Some of you may have discovered this already, but if you ask the various manufacturers for promotional material, flyers, etc., they will usually be happy to comply. For example, Trace Elliot sent me a mini-poster with Mark, Tony Levin, John Entwhistle, and I can't think who else. Alembic sent me a pricing list (Mark's signature model bass went for about $3500 then, but they had basses that were much much more), a booklet featuring Mark's and Stanley Clarke's signature models (Mark's model was discontinued this year), and an 18x24 poster of Mark posing with his Alembic. Actually, he looks like he's flipping off the camera with his left hand on the neck. But there are lots of goodies to be had if you just ask. Hey, has anyone seen that two 80's British bands are making a comeback? Simple Minds was on Letterman last night. Human League is featured in this month's Q. SM's newest received 4 out of 5 stars, HL only two. They also passed over Forever Now as one of the 50 best albums of the year, and the band's break-up failed to register as one of the 50 biggest stories in the UK music scene (we did, however, get a shot of Courtney Love's bum as she played pretzelwoman). ------------------------------ From: John Edward Martin Shuford Date: Wed, 1 Feb 1995 21:14:02 -0800 (PST) Subject: Re: Level 42 Digest, #290 There was a question about Guaranteed Live. Some of us do have it over here. I don't have the laserdisc, but I do have the VHS transfer. I know some people have the laser. You might check with Tower Records Mail Order in London to see if you can get a copy of the vid. You'll still have to get it transferred (or rent a PAL conversion unit), but it can be done. As for other Boots, the Live In Zurich `83 show (is your's named The White Funky?) is the only CD I know of. There's an LP out of Italy called Lessons In Live which is from 1986. Otherwise, there are some bits and bobs floating around this newsgroup (someone volunteered making tapes of some live shows). ------------------------------ From: Michael BROOKS Organization: Technology Date: Thu, 2 Feb 1995 11:38:37 GMT Subject: Re: Level 42 Digest, #292 In answer to Zaron's thing about the bubble.... It is the Children Say charity. They turn up at the UK gigs and collect money. The band usually donates a signed T-shirt for a raffle. When you give money you get a raffle ticket.
