Carl is the drummer from Emerson, Lake and Palmer. He also played drums with the group Asia. I don't know what he is doing these days. While we are on the subject, who is Midge Ure? -Darrin ------------------------------ From: Michael BROOKS Organization: Technology Date: Fri, 27 Jan 1995 13:29:46 GMT Subject: Physical Presence CD vs. LP/CS Are the abroad subscribers aware that if you have bought A Physical Presence on CD, you are missing live versions of Mr Pink, 88 and Turn It On, which are available on the tape and vinyl versions? Reason was so that they could get as muchas possible on one CD. Personally, I would have prefeered a double CD with the whole gig on ( or at leats the set as APP is made up of two or three gigs). ------------------------------ From: Rob Kadel Date: Fri, 27 Jan 1995 08:45:36 -0500 (EST) Subject: Re: fat > From: Psunspot @ aol.com > Is this a reasonable request? No. ------------------------------ From: eric (Eric J. Hansen) Date: Fri, 27 Jan 95 10:53:43 EST Subject: List "fat" Folks and fans, Regarding the "fat" in the list... All of the standard header and footer of the list are necessary. I am not sure if this is what people are complaining about, but if you belong to other lists, you will see that L42 DIGEST is "leaner" than others in this regard. As for including text from previous digests, these complaints _are_ totally valid. For years, I've seen devoted people use .sig's like "Cut out all un-needed text to reduce Net bandwidth". The tip here is: if you are replying (i.e., following up) to the list with a segment from a previous digest mailing, cut out everything that is not absolutely necessary. Also, it is helpful to rename the subject of the message so that it reflects the topic (as oppoed to "re: Digest 201"). Further, don't use .sigs that exceed five lines!! (I know - alot of people say "four lines", but see below ;-) I do not have the time to filter, cut, and reformat incoming mail. I do my best to make sure that bounced mail/error messages do _not_ get included in digest mailings (sorry, bounce subscribers!), but you'll just have to bear with me for the occasianal blunder. Lastly, as I'm sure Lazlo can attest to, the signal-to-noise ratio on this list is really _not_ all that bad (relatively speaking...) Thanks and rock on... -Eric ------------------------------ From: Sandhya=E.=Verma%SS%DFCI @ RHYS.DFCI.HARVARD.EDU Date: Fri, 27 Jan 95 12:44:53 EST Subject: agree I have to agree with Lazlo, if the format bothers you that much, then unsubscribe. By the way, I am more or less a "silent member" since my level (no pun intended) of knowledge about L42 goes only as far as listening to them on the radio when they were around. However, thanks to Peter Hadley, I have been aquainted with much of their older, more obscure things, as well as Mark's new stuff like Forever Now. Thanks to all who write, I am learning a lot about this band (that was so hard to get to know...we all know why) Sandhya ------------------------------ From: John Edward Martin Shuford Date: Fri, 27 Jan 1995 10:19:23 -0800 (PST) Subject: Re: Level 42 Digest, #288 (cut out the fat) To our friend that complained about too much fat: Don't post your note to all of us so we have to read it--including YOU. That increases your precious time on the internet. That's all. In response to the question about Learn To Say No, the only format I know of for the original version is on the Japanese CD of Forever Now. It's worth it to have for that, and because you get lyrics (albeit with lots of misspellings). As for the L42 breakup and their individual and collective futures, I guess the cat's out of the bag now and we can talk about it. What I have heard is that Mark is starting his own record label. They will be doing recording at The Summerhouse, and Mike and Mark will continue on playing on each other's albums. Phil was not the only one who was fed up with the interference--Mark has really had it with the record companies, their interference, and their unfulfilled promises (I have promises in writing from Randy Goodman, VP-Marketing of RCA New York, assuring me that the new project would be released in the states and that we fans would have an opportunity to help spread the word if BobC and I would cooperate with him and compile lists of fans--as you can tell, the promises never came to fruition). Good to hear Mark is working with Midge again. This reminds me--John Thirkell and Gary Barnacle appeared on some of UVox's work. The links never end. ------------------------------ From: Elson "?" I find some of the stuff at the bottom of the mailings very useful, such as the internet want-list address, etc. Keep up the great work!! I was just curious, can somebody tell me what this audiophile place is? I mean, is it a mail-order company, or a store, do they only sell CDs or also videos? I'm just trying to save myself the cost of a long distance call. Thanks! Midge was in the group Ultravox, but check out his solo albums, Mark slaps some sick bass on ' The Chieftain ', ( from the album _The Gift_ ). j ------------------------------ From: synth @ yuri.abq.nm.us (Synth Oberheim) Organization: YuriNet Amiga Cyberspace Access - "Know Future" Date: Fri, 27 Jan 95 18:06:24 MST Subject: Re: Cut out the fat, please! BZZZZT. Sorry, but Unix systems (the vast majority of the Net) need the carriage returns. This is the standard. > <<13 lines of PREVIOUS post in brackets/question mark?>> > > "...No, Annie McCaig didn't do that tour" I agree with this one -- attributions should be trimmed down as much as possible. > I also object to, although they are OCCASIONALLY humourous, the little > personal and non-personal quotes that most postees seem to think is mandatory > to place at the end of their contributions, accompanied by too many empty > lines, borders, and other characters sometimes resembling a picture. This is net.culture. Welcome to the Net. > On the internet, not to mention the information service I PAY DEARLY FOR, Why are you paying so dearly (read: through the nose) with AOL? That's not *our* fault. AOL's rates are ridiculous. If you want Net access, drop AOL and get with a Unix-based Internet provider. Just a suggestion. > Is this a reasonable request? Nope. Sorry.
