Dear administrator and subscribers, Although this "newsletter" has been a wonderful source of information, I must say that of all those that I've subscribed to, this one is filled with so much junk, by this I mean all the crap that comes at the end, the header information, the seemingly needless filler characters, not to mention the internet's own two cents/routing log, etc. Also, try not to add carriage returns unless you wish to write a new paragraph; let your machine do the work for you. I see a lot of this stuff: <<>> Is it also possible to NOT rehash an entire interrogative posting from a past letter just to respond with someting like: <<13 lines of PREVIOUS post in brackets/question mark?>> "...No, Annie McCaig didn't do that tour" I also object to, although they are OCCASIONALLY humourous, the little personal and non-personal quotes that most postees seem to think is mandatory to place at the end of their contributions, accompanied by too many empty lines, borders, and other characters sometimes resembling a picture. And let's face it, after having seen them once, you're less likely to be further edified the next time. On the internet, not to mention the information service I PAY DEARLY FOR, time does indeed translate to money, and this is exactly why I'd like to see this service trimmed down considerably as to not make anybody wait whilst their modems are gagging on the copious amounts of filler coming down an already trafficky superhighway. Is this a reasonable request? On a more 42-ish note, I picked up the Japanese import copy of FN from the Audiophile Imports booth at the NAMM show last weekend, which also contains the great "Past Lives" and the OK "Learn To Say No" (the real version). The $35 price was worth it for the extra tracks plus-thank heavens-all the lyrics. I was surprised at all the lines I had wrong in my head. Mark from Audiophile told me a few things he'd heard: 1. Phil didn't tour because by that time he'd had it with the record company which is: 2. why they broke up. As long as they were under the name Level 42, RCA (or anyone else) was going to tell them who or what they needed to sound like, based on past success. In fact they will be assisting each other on different projects, such as Mark's upcoming album. The stifling power of a major label cannot be underestimated. 3. Mark is doing a project with Midge Ure and Carl Palmer as we speak. ------------------------------ From: Peter Hadley Date: Thu, 26 Jan 1995 21:21:25 -0500 (EST) Subject: 2 questions > the great "Past Lives" and the OK "Learn To Say No" (the real version). I have Past Lives, is there another release that Learn to Say No is on, or do I have to shell out the $35 ? > 3. Mark is doing a project with Midge Ure and Carl Palmer as we speak. Who's Carl Palmer ? Also, going through some boxes of books, I came across some magazine articles, OM ( only music ) 10/87 Bass player 3/92 Record Collector 5/94 and a few Blues & Soul mags I requested, will transcribe. j ------------------------------ From: lazlo @ RT66.com (Lazlo Nibble) Date: Thu, 26 Jan 1995 19:33:53 -0700 (MST) Subject: Cut out the fat, please! > Although this "newsletter" has been a wonderful source of information, I > must say that of all those that I've subscribed to, this one is filled > with so much junk, by this I mean all the crap that comes at the end, > the header information, the seemingly needless filler characters, not to > mention the internet's own two cents/routing log, [blah blah blah] Do us all a favor: if you're unable to cope with the day-to-day details of reading an Internet mailing list, please unsubscribe.
