Any ideas .... thanks, Doug Erickson ------------------------------ Subject: Level42 Digest V95 #19 From: Cliff Barua Date: Wed, 06 Sep 1995 12:54:06 +0000 (GMT) In a recent digest, Amanda wrote (in response to the Chinese Way controversy): >"Can we all just get along?" Is this a quote from Mark King's long-lost cousin ---- RODNEY KING?? In another recent digest, Pat wrote: >Don't forget Walls Come Tumbling Down and Shout To The Top (which was on the VisionQuest soundtrack). I have the original vinyl album by Style Council, "My Favourite Shop". A must buy! Or pick up their compilation on CD. But back to Level 42. Can anyone recommend any good (I mean decent sound) bootlegs from the '86-'87 tours. Preferably the full concerts - with a lot of World Machine & Running In The Family stuff, and a few earlier gems. I've made an audio tape from the "Live In Wembley" VHS tape, but this doesn't represent a complete show (I don't think). Does the "Audiophile" place mentioned by Eric and others have any of these "illicit recordings". Please e-mail me personally if you don't want to incriminate anyone. A friend of mine is making a trip soon and I wanted to ask him to pick it up for me over there and I'll convert it here in the US. Let me know as soon as possible because his trip is pretty soon. Thanks! Kurt may have gone out with a bang (literally!), but Jerry had been around long enough to become a legend. -Ian ------------------------------ Subject: Level42 Digest V95 #19 From: RolfieV @ aol.com Date: Wed, 6 Sep 1995 09:25:03 -0400 Hi all, Am I the only one that's going to touch this one? Well, being that Paul is one of my favorite artists, I just had to say something. Kim>Songs such as "LET 'EM IN", "SILLY LOVE SONGS", Kim>"COMING UP", AND "GOODNIGHT TONIGHT" are driven by Kim>exceptional bass lines. I agree with all of them except, "LET 'EM IN"??? While the quarter note "bump" of the bass is very prominant, I think it is far from exceptional. It was one of the first songs I learned to play to when I took up the bass because it was so simple. If you're looking for more exceptional bass playing by Paul, pick up the "Wings Across America" CD. You'll find his playing on this live album kicks butt over his studio bass tracks. Also for those of you who identified with this statement: Kim> (I'm not too knowedgeable about Beatles lore, but....) Let me recomend *highly* that you do become knowledgeable! While Paul plays quite a few Beatle songs on his live albums, you should actually get a "Beatles" album. If you are looking for a great example of Paul's bass playing as a Beatle, you should get "Sgt Peppers Lonley Hearts Club Band" Plus you should just have this one. That's all---Rolf ------------------------------ Subject: Level42 Digest V95 #19 From: "Friesen, Alex" Date: Tue, 05 Sep 1995 15:11:49 -0500 Flanagan, let's hear about the Kevin Bacon game. I gather it is something like the little find-the-musical-link pastime I sometimes engage in. Such as: how are the two drummers Dave Weckl and Phil Collins connected? Phil Collins has used Daryl Stummer (guitar) who has played with Jean Luc Ponty (violin) who has just released an album with "Rites Of Strings" which includes Stanley Clarke (if you don't know, I ain't gonna tell ya) and Al Dimeola (guitar) who, as we all know, has played with Chick Corea (keyboards) who has recorded several albums with Dave Weckl (minor deity). Geez, I gotta get out more!! ...Alex... I noticed in the L42 Demographic breakdown, that there were a few L42 fans in Norway. I am Norwegian and would like to hear from you. Drop me a line. Lutefisk, Lefse, Uff Da!! Jerry ------------------------------ Subject: Level42 Digest V95 #19 From: JAZZKAT42 @ aol.com Date: Wed, 6 Sep 1995 19:56:05 -0400 Hello lads, ladies... Just a note to those bass enthusiasts out there. I have a couple of excellent bass players that you should definately hear. The first being Victor Wooten of the band Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. This guy can do it all!! Recommended CD "UFO TOFU" The other is Kai Eckhardt-Karpeh. You can hear Kai playing with Vital Information featuring Steve Smith. Steve Smith is the former drummer for Journey. Recommended CD "Fiafiaga" which means "celebration" in Samoan. both of these bass players are truly supreme. Give a listen, expand your horizons. You won't be disappointed!! BTW, any Levelheads out there in the Monterey, CA area? Drop me a line. Cheers, Jerry
