As much as I've always loved Mark's bass playing and how much he's made an impact on my playing, I still think those guys have written some of the most endearing ballads I've ever heard. Does anyone else out there feel the same way or are we all blinded by some of the funkiest groove tunes that have been released in the last 10 years or so? They've grabbed my heart quite a few times with some of the material and heaven forbid I should ever listen to them when I'm in a breakup with my girlfriend!! ------------------------------ Subject: Level42 Digest V95 #18 From: apaulet @ clemson.edu (Amanda P.) Date: Tue, 5 Sep 1995 12:45:15 -0400 Lads...ladies..._please_ tell me we can find something else to discuss other than the CW controversy. I left the list in May and came back three months later to find the same Socratean dialectic going on, pitting its defenders against a considerable legion of naysayers. I'm not saying anybody's absolutely right or absolutely wrong, but honestly now, can't we all just get along? : ) Later, -Amanda Amanda K. At last my collection is again under one roof and I can finish his compilation. I'm just in your backyard! (Hollywood/Los Feliz Area, between Griffith Park and LA City college). Tell me 'bout yourselves! Send me mail! Did any of you get to see L42 when they played here in the L.A. area? All I know were the Roxy and Coach House (San Juan Capistrano) gigs in the Summer of '86 and the Madonna opener at Anaheim Stadium. I was going to see them open for the Thompson Twins at the Greek Theater in June '87, but alas, they cancelled. As for L42 discs, Virgin Megastore and Aron's Records in Hollywood have a good selection in their import bins. Page collaborated with the late Alan Murphy as well as Peter Cox and Richard Drummie (all of Go West) for their songwriting projects; Page co-wrote "The King of Wishful Thinking" and "Still In Love" from their "Indian Summer" album. Interesting Trivia: In addition to KOWT, Page also wrote/co-wrote other 80s hits like Heart's "These Dreams," (originally written for Stevie Nicks but never recorded) Really Interesting Trivia: Page was also a member of the early 80s one-hit-wonder band Q-Feel, who had a hit in 1981/82 with "Dancing In Heaven." In response to questions about Mark King's brother, all of you who saw Level 42 on the very short Forever Now tour might remember the strange shirt wearing lead singer/guitarist in the support band, that was Nathan King. He has died his hair black so as people wouldn't recognize him as who he is but if you looked you could see the resemblance. With regards to bass tab for Level 42, if you can dig out a few old copies of the UK magazine Guitarist, I don't know which months I have the copies in Ireland, you will find tabulature for songs like Kansas City Milkman, Children Say, Mr. Pink, True Believers and a few more, they are spread over three issues. I also remember tab in another UK guitar magazine, but I can't even remember the name of the magazine, again it's at home, sorry. If you want to listen to what I think is a very funky album try Freakpower's 'Drive-Thru Booty' a great album. [Right on! This isn't available domestically in the U.S., unfortunately... -Eric] By the way to answer Paul O'Dell's question, I'm not quite a programmer, I work in software localization in that I take US software and help to get it translated into other languages, I help on the technical side not on the linguistic side, it's an interesting job, I meet lots of people and it's gotten me to Boston for six months! Have Fun, Rob.
