Dominic Miller, Actually, Manu Katche played on "Nothing Like The Sun," not the Soul Cages. Thanks for the interesting info., don't mean to nit-pick, but I just had to correct this. -Evan ------------------------------ From: eric (Eric J. Anyways, yes, there is alot of "crosstracks" between L42, Go West, and Tears for Fears. I always have a great time picking up an album and running through the list of guest/session players. Although I don't have a list in front of me (since I'm in at work on a Sat -- rarr!), you'll note that some of the producers for these bands' albums have done other recognizable work. You can sometimes tell right away, such as any mix for L42 by Shep Pettibone (who does every heavy-bass techno-sounding pop song remix). I know that Bob Clearmountain and Tom Lord Alge have also done stuff with these bands. Some of my other favorite jewels that span lots of well-know musicians and executives are Steve Winwood's "Back in the High Life", Robbie Robertson's first two albums (with the likes of Manu Katche), and Grace Jones "Slave to the Rhythm" (with J.J. Belle on guitar, who has sessioned with Pet Shop Boys and others). There also seems to be "troups" of backing vocalists that session on alot of these albums (also check newer Mike Oldfield for a huge entourage of notable session players). Hey Lazlo! How about setting up an relational-database to track all these commonalities?!?! -Eric Oh, and BTW, I am defintely a big Go West fan, as well as Talk Talk, Steely Dan, Pet Shop Boys, Tom Dolby, TFF. I also frequent the ambient and electronic music lists that bicker about Orb, Kraftwerk, Vangelis, etc, etc. ------------------------------ From: Peter Hadley Date: Sat, 21 Jan 1995 23:29:40 -0500 (EST) Subject: Re: Manu Katche > I thought Omar Hakim played on Sting's Nothing Like the Sun? Omar played & toured _Dream of the Blue Turtles_ Manu played & toured _Nothing Like the Sun_ and _The Soul Cages_ Vinny Colaiuta played & toured _Ten Summner's Tales_ footnote: Vinny reminded me of Frank Zappa, which reminded me of the silly Hall of Fame the other night, which makes me want to mention to all of you, if your not familiar with the genius of Zappa, go by some _now_, truely a master. If you want recommendations, mail me. Also, did I mail out the Blues & Soul article on Level ? I thought I did, but no one has mentioned it. Let me know. And Eric, I ordered that CD single last week ( through HMV downtown ), talked to the guy again today, he said to call next week, so I will... As for the Hall of Fame, Level can be nominated in the year 2006. So start bugging the voters now. Peter
