Take Care of Yourself was recorded in the summer of 1989 at the Summerhouse (possibly the first thing they did there), for inclusion as a new track on Level Best, and also single release. Alan Murphy is on guitar, and Gary is playing the drums. The reason the drums sound sequenced is because Mark hadn't had the drum room built yet, and so the drums used were electronic. I seem to remember Gary saying they were ddrum (A Swiss electronic drum manufacturer). The drum room (a wooden extension) was built in time for the Guaranteed sessions, and Mark bought a white Gretsch kit to put in it. Surprisingly, it was this drumset of Mark's that Gary played on the album. All from the horses' mouths. Let him know the stats of the list, the nature of the list (perhaps he's not on the internet, and doesn't understand what it's all about), and how well received he'd be, here on the list. I'm sure we'd swamp him with questions. The best way would be to produce him a short and very polite letter, with the information on the list, and try to interest him in what we have to offer him. Whaddya think? Cheers. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Rich Fortnum (aka BeeRich) F & M Breweries Limited Guelph, Ontario, CANADA fortnum @ hookup.net ------------------------------ From: "Jeremy Theal" Organization: University of Western Ontario Date: Mon, 19 Jun 1995 12:05:23 -0500 Subject: Re: Level 42 Digest, #419 Hey y'all, just some ramblings: Roach - alas, there is no CD version of APP(Live) that includes "Turn it On", "Mr. Pink", or "88". I share your frustration ... it has always really ticked me off that these weren't included, since they're my favourite tracks from the album/cassette, and there IS enough play-time left on the CD to include them! Eric - will you be contacting Mr. Lindup on behalf of the group? I think you would be the best representative. Also, a few digests ago you wrote (re: finding a better fan-base for '42): > at least you *know* that the guy driving down the street with > Dune Tune __cranked__ really DIGS the band, and is not just trying to > be COOL by touting his awareness of top40 FILTH. Good call!! Down with Cotton-eye Joe and his evil allies! We were talking a couple of months ago about the fact that we are a close-knit group as '42 fans for the precise reason that L42 is _not_ popular with every Tom, Dick and Harry down the street. We all share a common bond that is uncommon to find ... if you get what I mean. If I saw someone driving down the street with _Dune Tune_ cranked, I would definitely want to meet him/her because I know we'd really have something in common. On the other hand, if I saw some Dedhead (read: Grateful Dead fan) with _A Touch of Grey_ blaring from his/her base-tube, I wouldn't even give him/her a second thought. In the words of Letterman, "those punks are a dime-a-dozen"... Daniel -- thanks for the WDR concerts! They're on their way back to you now. For those of you who missed the broadcast of the 1983 and 1984 German concerts, here's some highlights: - a 4-man, 5-minute drum jam during the middle of "43"! - King's amazing bass solos - Mike Lindup's stage-struts during King's bass solos. At _both_ concerts, Lindup jumps up during "Living it Up" to deliver his impression of an enraged male ostrich, bouncing around, flailing his arms and screaming "YEAH!" at the end of _every_ bar. Actually, I was a little embarrassed for him. During these moments he looked ...well....geeky, especially during the 1984 concert when his red pants were a little too short, and he was wearing blazingly-white socks... ouch! I haven't seen any of the live performances from later years... does Lindup develop a more refined stage presence? - King's creative new lyrics for "Love Games". - King's tongue antics at unexpected moments. - King demonstrating to the audience how to "dance" during a bass solo. What a ham! - Boon's expressions. Most of the time, he looks so calm... even when he's churning out some tricky riffs... maybe he meditates. During a couple of his solos, though, you get some really great grimaces out of him... kinda like a constipated badger. - the German crowds -- 75% of them looked about 80% stoned about 95% of the time. These concerts are a must-see... some great music, and also quite a few laughs. Thumbs up! I'm outta here. Later! Jer =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Jeremy J.
