Anyway, for those American fans out there who are as lazy as I am when it comes to dealing with Import CD mailing companies, HAVE NO FEAR! I just purchased an imported copy of FOREVER NOW at the local Tower Records for only $19.95 (which was DEFINITELY WORTH IT!) They had about 4 copies in stock, not accounting for copies which may be floating around the back. Also, a friend of mine told me he saw a copy at the local Sam Goody (yes, that's right folks, SAM GOODY - they're apparently starting to sell imports there as well) for roughly $25. As for the version which has the extra three tracks on it which everyone's been talking about lately, this wasn't it. BTW, what is CDEurope? I'm a greenie when it comes to import companies (if it is, indeed, an import/export company) and don't know anything past the Jersey-based NODOMESTIX, which went out of business recently. Does CDEurope have a catalog? An address? A dog? TELL ME MORE!!!! :-) Later folks. ROACH!!! What an inspirational and powerful message in yesterdays digest. Brainstorming is definitely something I'm gonna have to do concerning the issue of gettin' Forever Now some play here in the States, because at this point in time I really can't think of anything other than buggin' the local radio stations down here in New Mexico. But I fervently agree ... we can't loose hope. Forever Now, is in my opinion Levels greatest effort, and for it to be pushed aside and ignored by RCA is an absolute travisty. I'm lookin' forward to others comments and ideas on how we can collectively get the ball rollin' ... get some action started ... and give Level the recognition it deserves! Hell ... maybe I'm being a little too optimistic, but possibly by getting the band some airplay here, the interest will filter back across the atlantic and inspire the boys to a brief reunion and a possible small club tour over here in the states. Maybe, ... just maybe. Anyway, if you dream hard enough, and want something strong enough, sometimes ... sometimes ... your desires can be fulfilled. SO LET"S GET TO BRAINSTORMING!! P.S. I also think Mike's solo album got the raw end of the deal. There's a radio station in NY called CD 101.9 which plays contemporary jazz and other soft contemporary music. CHANGES would have got so much play on that station ... not unlike BASIA or SADE (Changes has a sound somewhat similar to these female divas music). It's a little too late to try to get this particular album any dap here in the States, but hopefully Mikes next solo effort fares much ... much better ... Take care all! We'll find out exactly the NAME of the person we should be bothering at RCA (this'll take a little phone-work, eg is it RCA UK or RCA USA we should be directing this to)? Next, add a succinct, poignant, and hit-em-hard cover letter. In this cover letter, we'll mention that we'll be contacting them to discuss the matter further. Send it off. Wait two weeks, then call the person and put the whole issue in their face again. If we don't get results, we'll ask the name of his/her supervisor, then we bug him/her... My dad's done this stuff with big companies before and gotten results. I don't see why WE shouldn't be able to do the same thing. Jer =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Jeremy J. Many people did not provide data for each of the categories (age, gender, "race", marital status, occupation/education, fan since, fave song, fave album, fave video, (geographical) address, instruments played), so some statistics, while not quite made up, are not necessarily particularly accurate. Average age: 24 Males outnumber females 21 to 5. Students outnumber non-students 2 to 1. Fan since: Something About You / World machine was a clear winner here. Generally, older people have been fans since earlier times / tunes than younger people (no surprise there). Favourite song, video and album are all over the place. Upon perusing this data I have decided that the basic thing we all share (Internet access) probably ties us together more than any one other thing. Students generally have access through school, and most of the rest of us work with computers in software development or something related. (Does this mean we all have a special spot in our hearts for Micro Kid?) Only 38 people have volunteered information for this survey. Some of you shy types have emailed me directly. The rest of you silent types may feel free to do so - rest assured that I will not go waving your personal data all over the 'net if you have sent it too me in confidence. (Unless there's really juicy stuff, that is.) If you don't want to answer all the questions, just send me what you like. You don't have to admit that your dad is a master Vogon poet if you don't want to. ...Alex... "Why can't people just be people..." P.S. Congrats, Jeremy, for getting into med school. Look me up when you rotate through Sick Kids. ------------------------------ From: PLFlanagan @ aol.com Date: Wed, 7 Jun 1995 21:37:28 -0400 Subject: Re: Outfunk this Ohhh, Sugarhill Gang. That's a moldy oldy. I have fond memories of listening to "Eighth Wonder" in my young school years. Funky stuff. That and "White Lines" (the original Grandmaster Flash version, not the new Duran Duran version -- though that isn't THAT bad). :D Ohio Players were pretty funky, too. Another batch of good stuff are the Isley Brother's singles they released on T-Bone records. "Harvest for the world... Harvest for the world..." I'm currently badgering the Program Director at my local Adult Contemporary station (strategy there -- they're more likely to play this stuff than the top 40 Bryan Adams/Blessid Union Of Souls/Men II Boyz/By Jovi station). He has a copy of Forever Now, I'm on his rear to listen and listen good. I also have three program directors from other stations who are buddies of his on my side. Unfortunately, the South Bend, Indiana market is not very big. But, hey, at least I'LL be able to hear it on the radio. Forever Now has a market. No argument about that. Let's all do the same. But target the Adult Contemporary market out there. For the most part, the teenage kiddies won't be interested in it (no offense meant to any teenage kiddies on the list). BUT, the adults will. Well, I've considered arranging Tracie and Take Care of Yourself for a cappella........ As far as albums, Rockapella has 5 in Japan. The last 2; "Vocobeat", and "Out Cold", feature _me_! They can be ordered from any importer, but you'll get faster service if you call the band's fave importer, SoundCity2000, at 503/654-2196. The Yen being what it is, any album from Japan is gonna cost around $38 to $40. It's worth it. Try "Vocobeat", or album #2; "From New York" to start. :) -Jeff ------------------------------ From: Crazylips @ aol.com Date: Thu, 8 Jun 1995 01:13:50 -0400 Subject: Re: Level 42 Digest, #413 Jeremy; you're never too old to watch Carmen Sandiego.
