Well, I still have to do some corrections on two papers, but otherwise I am done. 80 pages of finished, polished term papers in the last 15 days by this kid. So, if anyone wants to know all about Wittgenstein's philosophy of meaning, Derrida's philosophy of history and justice through the filter of King Lear, recent moral theory-cum-literary theory with a Pulp Fiction slant, or recent moral theory on cyberspace communities and an ethic of trust, I'm your man. I'm also available for children's parties and bar mitzvahs (bat mitzvahs too--sorry no circumcisions, however). So, anyway, the point is that I'm DONE!!! As such, I may not be on the digest for a while. I'm going on vacation for three weeks, and with any luck my good fortune with the record stores in the Bay Area on old L42 vinyl will continue! BTW, if no one has checked yet, CDEurope is listing both the rereleased version of Forever Now (with 3 bonus tracks) and Boon Gould's new CD. They also have listings for Jakko's solo CDs (I haven't checked to see if they have anything under Dizrhythmia), lots of Allan Holdsworth, Wally Badarou, Lindup and King, and even have the fusion group Alan Murphy was with for awhile, Special EFX. Thanks for the response from those who did on genre bending. Steely Dan might also come to mind, but I'd say the names mentioned are good ones. I hadn't really thought of Billy Joel (mostly because my interest in him has waned in the last number of years), but one of my favorite songs ever is Big Man on Mulberry Street. Another great one for all of its pacing shifts and mood changing (and flat fantastic lyrics the way only young Billy could write them) is Scenes From an Italian Restaurant. And is it just me or does Say Goodbye to Hollywood sound an awful lot like E-Street Band material? Finally, there are some people here on the digest I will need to get ahold of before I take off, so be looking for a note from me soon. You know: wah-wah guitars, good horn > section, synthesizers, good tight drumming, female alto lead singer. Perhaps others will also point this out, but Jason Kay of Jamiroquai is, to the best of my knowledge, _male_. I must admit I made the same error when I first picked up _Emergency on Planet Earth_, so I'm not flaming! Kay's voice is just amazing! Many compare him to Stevie Wonder, but I don't think that does Kay justice (and no insult to Wonder intended here either). The second album, _Return of the Space Cowboy_, is ceretainly a bit different, but it has really grown on me over time. Check out both albums! They should be easily available, and I consider Jamiroquai to be among the best that 'acid jazz' (yeah, I'm not hot on theat term either, but what can you do:-) has to offer. Ob. L42 content: Can anyone tell me about any videos made for songs off of _Guaranteed_ and _Forever Now_? I just picked up the _Level Best_ video collection and I'm curious what sort of videos they might have released more recently. Jeff -- I'll watch for you on the WITWICS show on PBS! I'm glad you're getting TV exposure with the rest of the band ... after all... you certainly wouldn't want to end up being in a similar position to Eddie Murphy as the "Fifth Beatle" (***blatant SatNiteLive allusion***) if Rockapella makes it big! I have to admit that even tho' I'm FAR too old to be watching Carmen, I have tuned in a few times (hey, those a cappella ditties are catchy!). I hope a record deal works out for you guys -- you deserve it. Lolita -- your tape is in the mail. So, as long as Customs doesn't rip it open, realize it's copyrighted material, slap me with a nasty fine and confiscate the tape, you should get it soon -- enjoy! (Of course, if they _did_ confiscate it, Customs would be one rockin', funky place -- inspectin' packages to the grooves of '42)! BTW, has anyone purchased that "Forever Now + 3" CD from CD Europe? What are the bonus tracks? Are they different from the Japan release (which I think has two bonus tracks)? Also, does anyone know a cheap mail-order source for the International World Machine CD? There are at least three four-track "Forever Now" singles out in Europe. Which one of these CD Europe is selling, I have no idea (and neither do they, probably). Dunno about a/the Japanese version. How can you tell when a singer's outside your door? He can't find the key and doesn't know where to come in. How many drummers does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Five. One to hold it in the socket and four to drink 'til the room spins. ...Alex... While I make every attempt to filter this stuff out before 7am EST when the digest is mailed, junk messages have been creeping in during the early AM when I'm thinking zzzzzzz's. If all goes well, worldmachine.com will be set up within the month and the "revived list" will exist on the majordomo list server platform. This should do a better job with filtering out reject messages and everyone will be happy (especially me, since I now do all admin requests _by hand_!) Again, I apologize -- please hang in there!
