Well it's a acid jazz band, it doesn't sound like incognito, but they made 2 albums "emergency on planet earth" and "the return of the space cowboy" i think the first is better than the second. it's a melting of bass (loud but not funky (for the first album) i don't have the second, i just heard singles and B'sides... some keyboards.... many brass, and guitars (excellent cool wah wah effect on the first album) i really don't know how to describe it, but i think you should try, and the first rather than the second.. in my opinion. now, to all, what do you think about Keziah jones ? i saw him on tour in may, it was a hard and fast funk concentrated on guitar more than on bass, there are three players (with a drummer) and i like it because it's really fast and there's a good rythm i'm sure you all know his greatest succes for the moment "rythm is love" it's more "cool" than the other songs he plays... his current single is (in France) "a million miles from home" excellent too..... tell me , what you all, do you think about it ?? denis. ------------------------------ From: "AFUA PRESTON" Organization: New York University Libraries Date: 2 Jun 95 09:02:48 EST Subject: Re: Forever Now Lyrics Just a note. I don't have the lyrics on computer. I just photocopy and enlarge the lyrics from my CD. If you still want a copy, send me your mailing address and I'll send it to you. ------------------------------ From: lolita @ InterServ.Com Date: Fri, 2 Jun 95 06:20:42 PDT Subject: Jamiroquai Pat - Don't Look Any Further by Dennis Edwards...you didn't like it? That song is a soul classic. Oh well; I think it is pretty good. Anyone out there with any opinions? Jamiroquai is an acid jazz (I know - the term sucks, but what else to call it?) band that has a solid lineup that will remind you of a late seventies/early eighties sound. You know: wah-wah guitars, good horn section, synthesizers, good tight drumming, female alto lead singer. They are like Incognito's rawer, funkier cousin. Their older album, Emergency on Planet Earth, is great. The new one, Return of the Space Cowboy, isn't quite as good because it is a bit mellower, but it will grow on you. If you want to get only one, I would suggest the first one. Can anyone get a copy of Fait Accompli? My record store had it, and then the next week I went to buy it and it was gone. I'm crushed. I know it is like $20; I'll send a check including postage if someone has a store near them with it in stock. Thanx a lot in advance. Sad when you have to forward your own messages because they didn't seem to show up on the digest. This one and the one that follows are a couple days old. ...You're listening to KLVL, 104.2 FM--World (Machine) Country So, L42 as "country" huh? Well, I certainly think they have a knack for that kind of sound. Don't Bother Me, My Father's Shoes, even Lasso The Moon. But it's not really country, or so I've been told on countless occasions. Friends who live in Dallas, my parents (who have, sadly, become country line dancing fanatics--where did I go wrong? I did the best job of raising them I could), say it's not country. I guess I'd call it the Dire Straits school of country music, if I had to give it a name. Every now and then, even though I've listened to all of their albums countless times, I will just marvel at how diverse of a musical command L42 have. It's kinda like: Pick a genre, and they've contributed to it somehow. Top 40, nothing! BritFunk? Sometimes. I honestly don't know of another band that has done such diverse stuff over its "lifetime" as L42. So here is my challenge: Someone point out to me another band who has successfully encompassed so many genres and blurred the hard and fast distinctions that everyone in the music industry seemingly wants to make. Finally, for all who are interested, I made an error the other day when I reported that the CDEurope Newsletter did not list Boon's new CD. It is buried, under BOON (why? Is he like Cher now?), going for $23.95. But a word of caution(?): It's not yet listed in their online database. I'm trying to convince them that it's not on there yet (nor is the rerelease of Forever Now) so you have a couple of options. First, y'all who are interested can wait until I get my CD successfully ordered (which should be within the next couple of days). Second, you can leave them messages to respond to, pestering them about the new CD. That might actually be more fun, and might convince them to seek out more L42 related material. So there you have it--as is my wont, I seem to have started another writing campaign on behalf of L42 (if y'all take up my offer, that is). ------------------------------ From: John Edward Martin Shuford Date: Fri, 2 Jun 1995 22:50:32 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Forever Now Guitar Same deal as the last one... a couple days old (and just not that interesting to begin with!) Well, BobC would know better than me (from hanging out with Danny and listening to him perform) how much of that album is Danny playing and how much is Memorex, but let's throw one more thing into the mix (no pun intended). Mark King has a little guitar playing ability too. When he decides that he needs a certain sound here or there, he's just as apt to do it himself after the fact. Some of it may be programmed, but Mark's been known to contribute behind the scenes without taking credit for it. For example, Mark did the guitar solo in the remixed version of Children Say, and played the Duane Eddy jangling guitar (this is Mike Lindup's description) on My Father's Shoes. Further, remember that Allan Holdsworth only played five tracks on Guaranteed. Dominic Miller was part of the mix too, but my guess is that there were a few tracks that Mark played on, and I would think some of that extends to Forever Now as well.
