Oh, the number of times I've 'revealed' to people that I actually quite like Level 42, only to be on the receiving end of assorted "you can't be serious - oh go get a life - what? *that* stuff?" reactions. I was beginning to feel like I was harbouring some deep dark weirdness. (I'm sure L42 are still associated with the sounds blasting out of a pearlescent white Ford Escort cabrio driving somewhere in deepest Essex, complete with pair of fluffy dice.) (Apologies to all our Essex-based readers; no serious offence intended. Only a minor one... ;) But, hey - the kind of glazed-eyed, grinning, thumb slapping, just-plain- enthusiastic ramblings I've read on this list (and, occasionally, contributed to :) don't half give you a healthy dose of that good ol' fashioned feelgood factor. I hope this list goes on. And on. And on. Just thought I'd say so. Whoami/whatami? 29, married (to a nice redhead who's only character flaw is a continued failure to understand that I actually quite like Level 42 - I'm working on it ), living and working in an anonymous little market town in Leicestershire that also just happens to have a University (Loughborough - pronounced Lufbra, not Loogaborrooga, as visiting Australians once famously called it). Graduated in '88 with a BSc in Ergonomics and just can't stop working at a human factors research institute, even though I know I should get a proper job eventually. First saw L42 in Stuttgart (RITF tour) after missing them twice (!!) in Loughborough (insert favourite libel here:_________ ). Claim to fame: accidentally bought a signed copy of Forever Now :))) re. Guaranteed Live video - anyone noticed how MK seems to be having a really average time of it all. Nowhere near the enthusiasm of previous years... One for Mike Brooks - So when's it all over then? Hey, all! It's been quite a while since I've written in, mostly because of end-o-semester stuff and now I'm on vacation. But I thought I'd take a minute to fikkiw suit and put in my bio. I'm 24 yrs. old, white male. I was born in Florida, lived in West Virginia for eleven years, then returned to Florida for high school and college. I currently live in Atlanta where I'm in grad. school at Emory University in sociology. My parents are both musicians, so it's safe to say I was introduced to music at quite an early age -- like when I was about two. After participating in several bands and choirs throughout high school and college (I played drums in the bands) I was really into jazz and music which is really "creative." That is, I prefer music that doesn't necessarily stay in one key, doesn't have a simple beat, and is quite difficult to copy, i.e., Level 42. I started playing the bass in 1989, and I like music which provides a challenge when I play. So again, what better choice than L42? Other favoirte musicians include Sting, Journey (I also dabble in a little Neal-Schon-ish guitar, though needless to say, I'm not very good at it), Brand New Heavies, Seal, Icehouse, Harry Connick, Jr., and Frank Allison and the Odd Sox (a band from Ann Arbor, Michigan). So that's me. Finally, I should mention to Vince and to those of you who have yet to download our sound clips from the WWW page (probably because they're too huge), as soon as I return from my vacation next week, I plan to put much smaller clips into Vince's directory for the page. These will be shorter clips at a lower frequency, and I hope will be less than 100K. Look for them in the next few weeks! Rob :-) ------------------------------ From: BobC971 @ aol.com Date: Mon, 22 May 1995 11:05:15 -0400 Subject: To all Police fans Not to get too far off the Level path, but I know there are a lot of Police/Sting fans on the digest. There hasn't been a lot of promotion for this, but there is a new Police album coming out this week. It is a live album (finally). I'm not sure if the new album is a bunch of various live clips (as the video will be) or if it's one continuous show. I just hope I don't have this stuff already..TCOY, BobC ------------------------------ From: Private_User @ amoco.com Date: Mon, 22 May 95 16:31:21 +0100 Subject: Demographics / It's Aliiiiiive !!!!! Jeez Mike we all thought you'd died from overwork ;-) Anyway seeing as I'm now not in the caribbean (and won't be ever If I can help it:) , I thought I'd add my details to the demographics thang....Anyone compiling these (perhaps to put on the Web site ????) I'm male, white,English, 29 (old huh) this Sun (Party at my house on Sat, if anyone's up for it), I'm a freelance database consultant (I've been freelance since I was 19). I'm currently learning bass (Mike is waaaaaaaay better than me), I played volleyball for England when I was younger, I'm a trained scuba diver, ski instructor etc. I've been following Level 42 since 82, as they were my local band (I was born and raised in Portsmouth). I look like Fido Dido. Oh, and I _do not_ like hot weather ;-) Fav track : Follow Me There. ------------------------------ From: lolita @ InterServ.Com Date: Mon, 22 May 95 10:11:11 PDT Subject: Pleasantries..... Hey All: I just want to add to the comments that Jeremy Theal left the other day. I hate to get corny, but I must say that in the two months I have been on the digest, I have looked forward to reading it every day. You guys are so friendly and helpful; I feel like I've gained a new group of friends. It makes me believe that The Net is doing some good. Everyone who makes tapes for others, hosts people when they travel to other countries, posts helpful information; all of that restores my faith in humanity. Like Eric said, even when we don't talk about Level 42 stuff, we have constructive dialogs and it doesn't get nasty like on some other sites I have seen. If this site goes away I will cry. By the way, thanks for your joke, Pat. It is very interesting to see the diversity of peoples it has drawn. Well, here goes, I am a 21 year old white male, from Louisville Kentucky, Home of the Derby! I am a Junior at the University of Louisville majoring in Sociology. I work at a local Grade school and also have a mobile Dj business. I discovered L42 a few years ago with some thing about you (go figure) I waited anxiously as I watched the video channels awaiting to tape the video. I never got it completely, but I made do....It beca me a treat everytime that it appeared on my screen. As far as further music int erests, I like the Grateful Dead and one day I will follow to see what all the hype is about, I am currently listening to a group known as The Call, they are pretty good, excellent.....I listen to basically everything, less rap I can't s tand that stuff, but to each his own!!!!! Well, those are my specifics. I just know the list will survive the computer bureaucracy!!!!!! Other crappy Level 42 songs: Heart On The Line, Theme To Margaret, and (ooh, I'm gonna get it bad here) THE CHINESE WAY. :) Pat ------------------------------ From: PLFlanagan @ aol.com Date: Tue, 23 May 1995 00:33:25 -0400 Subject: Andrew Roachford Saw his name in the last digest... Whoa, almost forgot about him. I only heard his "Roachford" album, but it was pretty darn good (Cuddly Toy, etc.). What else has he been doing? Pat
