Dear Friends, Well, the debut of my '80s at 8 program this past Friday evening was a huge success!!! Quite interestingly, I can see that we all share many commonalities in our musical tastes even beyond Level 42. For instance, I played quite a few of the songs that you had listed, including Paul Hardcastle's "19"; Talk Talk's "It's My Life"; Nik Kershaw's "Wouldn't It Be Good"; Kim Wilde's "Kids In America"; Go West's "We Close Our Eyes"; Johnny Hates Jazz's "Shattered Dreams"; When In Rome's "The Promise". But the highlight of the program had to be when I actually received a request from a local caller named (ironically enough) "TRACIE" who wanted to hear (of all things) a song some of you might be familiar with called, "LESSONS IN LOVE"!!!! I was ECSTATIC!!! I couldn't believe someone from the GRUNGE-LOVING metropolis of Mid Michigan actually wanted to hear our boys!!! The other ironic thing is that I had the song scheduled for that evening anyway! I made the announcement that everyone should check out the beautiful Level 42 Home Page on the Web (I will announce the actual address this week). Which brings me to my question for all of you: I want to know why Level 42 doesn't register when entered into the search option on Netscape. Let me clarify this further: Try accessing Netscape and doing a search for, say, 'Depeche Mode' (using just plain, layperson's terms). The computer will spit out your choice of several Depeche Mode Home pages and bulletin boards. So, why can't one access Level 42 the same way? Perhaps those of you who were/are involoved in putting the project together can remedy this soon!!! Certainly, there may be those who will be searching for home pages/chat groups of their favourite artists that would miss out on joining our group simply because they do not know we exist and because the Level 42 Home Page doesn't seem to be listed in the 'Search directory', for lack of a better term. I'm looking forward to playing more of the great songs you all suggested this Friday evening and, again, am so glad to see that we are all on the same musical wavelength. Keep those suggestions coming!! I hope to have info regarding how and when YOU can tune in soon!!! Vince's site isn't in that particular database yet. There are God only knows how many web databases out there and they don't necessarily share information. The web page is listed on Yahoo, though (http://www.yahoo.com), which I think is just about the best index out there -- it's certainly the most browsable. -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo @ rt66.com) ::: Check out http://www.rt66.com/lazlo for the Internet Music Wantlists, ::: many artist discographies, and other record collecting resources. ------------------------------ From: lazlo @ Rt66.com (Lazlo Nibble) Date: Mon, 15 May 1995 09:59:23 -0600 (MDT) Subject: Forever Indie? > Lazlo: where is that information that you found about Forever Now and > Boon Gould's Tin Man? I got it from the Intergalactic Garage pre-order list. I wouldn't necessarily recommend ordering from them (and because of that, I don't have their address handy). I ordered some stuff they claimed to have in stock and it took them nearly a month to get it to me -- boo! There are also plenty of places that are cheaper -- Ear/Rational Music, for one. Now there's a man with his priorities in order!! I find that one of the numerous intersting things about this list is the exposure to slang from various parts of the world. I try to guess people's age and geographic area, but, like, I have no confirmation from most of it, eh?! ;-) Fave so far: "it hangs the moon". What the hell does that mean? I love that line! I' gonna use it myself, and just make up a different meaning for it each time. ...Alex... Greetings fellow Level (42) heads, I'm going on a vacation to Europe next Tuesday (23 May) and would like to meet some fellow Level 42 fans out there...If you don't know who I am (I haven't been posting to the list lately), I'm the dude who compiled the Level 42 FAQ, if that carries some weight! If you're in England, perhaps someone can show me places like JoeDaflo's cafe (which Mark King owns) or the Guildhall Music Academy (where Mike and Phil met), or maybe we can stalk Mark King's house (just kidding!). I'm especially looking for people in Paris, France and Berlin, Germany, as I know of no one there, and would appreciate some tips and advice from some of you.
