My first impression was that it is a little too synthetic somehow. After a couple of listens, though, the track "Desire" has jumped to the top of my current favorites list. The album is definitely worth having. I find it strange that he released an album on the "Resurgence" label (which I've never heard of), instead of BMG/RCA. The disc also says 1994 on it, but I recall reading somewhere that it came out in 1991. There seem to be a lot of religious references on this album, which took me by surprise. Level 42 lyrics tend to imply a certain atheistic element present in the band ("just came back from Culture burg / where I tried to learn the painted word / people there were so convinced / it's kept me thinking ever since"). Mike, on the other hand, is writing lines like "and every night he prays to the lord / to keep his fears at bay". Can anybody shed any religious light on the various members of Level 42? Now if only I can find Mark King's "Influences" without having to special order... ...Alex... ------------------------------ From: lolita @ InterServ.Com Date: Mon, 8 May 95 13:36:07 PDT Subject: Mike Lindup Hey Levelheads: I listened to Changes twice in a row yesterday (I have only owned it for two weeks), and I realized how great it is. The sound is different than what I am used to from Mike, but the songs are really good. The song Fallen Angel is truly beautiful, and it is nice to hear him not singing so high (most of the songs are in the lower register). Anyone who doesn't own this album, I suggest you get it (check Audiophile or CDEurope if you can't find it in a store). Question for everyone: I was in a record store and saw Animal Logic CDs. A few of you recommended their stuff, so I need to know: which one is better - the one with the three dogs, or the one with the three bears? I would like to buy this weekend, but I don't want both of them until I am sure I like them. ------------------------------ From: lazlo @ Rt66.com (Lazlo Nibble) Date: Mon, 8 May 1995 15:10:36 -0600 (MDT) Subject: Mike Lindup > I listened to Changes twice in a row yesterday (I have only owned it for two > weeks), and I realized how great it is. Can someone please pass along catalog and track information for the reissue? I get the impression there's some new stuff on it. Fellow funketeers include Kenny Garrett, Me'Shell NdegeOcello (she only sings, unfortunately), Loletta Hathaway and sampled dialogue from Bill Cosby, Joe Sample, Bill Withers and Roberta Flack. A truly outstanding aural confection...
